Cause you figure if you're wielding a God book, generally, you'll be using a protect prayer of one kind or another. Defense bonuses while protecting hardly seems useful. I could care less which god clothes I'm wearing. I'm going to pick the one with the stats that will personally benefit me, and I'm sure many other people would rather pick stats over their 'allegience.'
