The New Update! - PLAYER-OWNED HOUSES!
toastedspleen replied to namename's topic in General Discussion
No it wasn't, I had at least 10 free spaces. I also never got the "Oh well, take this anyway" message. -
Construction my shout about it! Make are own planks?
toastedspleen replied to RoswellCrash's topic in General Discussion
I think that was the point. It's a money sink designed to take gold out of the game. It can only be bought from an NPC, therefore the money isn't circulated between players. But you can always collect planks from respawns if you can find one  -
The New Update! - PLAYER-OWNED HOUSES!
toastedspleen replied to namename's topic in General Discussion
I got the Mr. Hyde event while building a table and it didn't work right. He never gave me my potion he just disappeared after I said "sorry, I don't" Reported to Jagex. -
You can buy trimmed and guilded armor from other players, even if you are not a member. But DO NOT give them your armor expecting them to trim it. Like the others said, it's a scam and you will lose your armor. There is no such thing as mith trimmed. I think there should be though...

Page Hunting - A Level 1 Clue Guide
toastedspleen replied to toastedspleen's topic in Help and Advice
Thanks all, I've been doing this for months and I thought I'd share. It's earned me my theiving level and I spent most of the profits on my farming level. It's my first guide and I'm glad people like it :D -
Page Hunting - A Level 1 Clue Guide Why do it? A lot of people don't bother with level 1 clues. They just see a few junk rewards and think it isn't worth the time. But level 1 clues have a big advantage. You can get and complete 6 an hour or more! You get god book pages at the same rate from level 1 clues as any other level but you get more clues in the same time. I found all my god pages and saved a whole bunch. I also sold a bunch of extra complete sets. Get a lucky hour and you can make 500k! Plus it's lots of fun and you gain lots of theiving and magic XP. Why do a Camelot tele over and over when you can use your Laws to make money? Of course you can walk back and forth crafting Nature runes and make guarenteed money, or do Barrows runs and get a lucky trip, or stand around merchanting. But these aren't options for everyone. I'm not claiming this is the best way to make money, just a very good way to make money. Especially for lower levels. What you need 58 Magic - Not necessary, but will save you tons of time if you can do all the teleports. 15 Theiving - Higher Theiving is a BIG advantage. I recommend at least 40. Priest in Peril Quest - Access to Canifis is necessary for one clue. This is a fairly rare clue. If you are willing to drop any clues that go there then you don't have to bother with this. Plague City Quest - Having the Ardougne teleport saves tons of time. Watchtower Quest - Having the Watchtower teleport saves tons more time. Full HAM - Wearing full HAM robes (Hood, Shirt, Robe, Gloves, Boots, Logo, Cape) will decrease your chances of being caught while theiving from HAM members. This can be obtained while pickpocketing for clues or bought from other players. Law, Earth, Fire, and Water Runes - Get at least 100 Laws, I recommend more. As for the others, you will be gaining these faster than you can use them. Start with about 100 of each. Air Staff - For teleport spells. Rings of Dueling and Games Necklaces OR Charged Glory Ammy - If you haven't done Heros then you will need the Ring and Necklace for the Al Kharid and Burthorpe teleports. Spade - For digging clues Ectophial - This isn't necessary, but it'll save some time going after the one Canifis clue. Don't bother carrying it around, get it out of the bank if you need it. Food - Getting caught theiving drains HP, so make sure you have enough food on you. Don't let your HP get too low. If you suddenly get a Watchman who hits you hard, you can die before you can react. You will get trout and salmon from clues, at higher levels this will be all the food you need. Setup Go to the bank, make sure there isn't a clue in there! You can only have one at a time! Put on your HAM robes and equip your air staff. Take out 100 Laws, 100 Waters, 100 Earths, and 100 Fires. Take out your Games Necklace and Dueling Ring, OR your Glory Ammy. Take out your spade. Take out a couple lobbies or your food of choice. I take out 3 low level fish (cod, trout, salmon). Hunting Now walk to HAM headquarters. This is under the ruined building behind Lumbridge castle. You will see a trap door with a picture of ham on it. Right click and select pick lock. You do not need a lock pick to do this. If you are a low theiving level then this may take a while. You can also fumble the lock and temporarily lose a theiving level. Once you open the door, climb down. Once inside walk to the center room. You can right click on the HAM members and select pickpocket. The female HAM members require level 15 theiving and the male 20. I would pickpocket the females only. When you get caught they usually only hit for 1, but the males can hit for up to 3. You may occasionaly get kicked outside of headquarters. You may also get locked in jail. If you end up in jail, right click on the door and select pick lock. You will get tons of junk from the HAM members. You'll probably want to drop most of it. Rusty swords, damaged armor, and buttons are all useless and definately should be dropped. I keep gems (opal and jade). If you also want to keep them then bring a chisel. Remember to turn the opals into bolt tips so they take up less space. I also keep coal and iron ore. I used to keep HAM equipment, but it took up too much space and nobody wanted to buy it. I drop all weapons except steel picks. These are the most expensive item you get from HAM and I sell them to the general store. Once you get a clue, fill up your inventory with the most expensive stuff that you dropped (it will be on top of the pile) and sell it to the general store. It gives a small amount of bonus cash. After an average of 5-10 minutes, you will have a clue. Sometimes it takes much longer, but not usually. Now it's time to go get your treasure. There are a limited amount of level 1 clues and after doing a few dozen scrolls you should have them all memorized. Refer to the Tip.it Treasure Trail Guide if you don't know where to go. There aren't any co-ordinate clues, keys, challenge scrolls, or puzzles. It's very easy. Rewards Here's how the rewards seem to be determined. A dice is rolled between 2 and 4 times. Each time the dice is rolled you have a chance of getting one of the following items... Common items - Most likely you'll get these 25-50 Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Mind, or Body runes. 5-10 Law, Chaos, or Nature runes Black plate, full helm, or legs. (no kite or skirt!) Misc black weapons. Air Staff Studded Armor Willow shorts and longs Trout or Salmon (noted) A small amount of GP Steel pickaxe Magic Ammy Second most common items - You'll get one about every 6 treasure trails. A God Page A Black Heraldic shield A piece of Black (t) armor A piece of Black (g) armor A piece of Studded (t) armor A piece of Studded (g) armor 5-10 Gnomic Firelighters Rarest items - You'll get one about every 30 trails. Highwayman Mask Beret A piece of wizard (t) robes A piece of wizard (g) robes Selling ** Do not use the following as a definitive price guide! Always check the official forums for current market prices ** High alch plain black armor, weapons, studded armor, and air staffs, or sell them to the general store. Keep the runes. Use the food to continue theiving. God pages have a current market value (early 2006) of 50-75k for Guthix (green) pages, 75-100k for Sara (white) pages, 200-250k for Zammy (red pages). Sell them on the forums. All trimmed, guilded, and heraldic items should be sold on free servers. It's too hard to find buyers on member servers. It's also easier to sell in full sets. Berets are fairly easy to sell, but are members only. White berets go for the most, up to 100k. Black and blue berets are 60-80k. Highwayman masks, although uncommon, are difficult to sell. I have got 40k for them when I find buyers, but I almost never find buyers. Burn your firelighters. They're untradable and just look cool. Clue list Here's a clue list I put together. It's no longer a good representation of your odds since Jagex added more clue rewards. I have screenshots of 350 more that maybe some day I'll type up.

Nice guide! It's basically what I do... One mistake, Scarecrows only protect Sweetcorn. If you want to protect Watermelons, use Nasteriums. Only a fully grown Nasterium will work so plant and grow one before planting a single watermelon seed. (make sure you don't pick it!) I get almost 100% success with them and supercompost.

bwahaha! Leik, w3 n33d h0rs3s plz!!!1!!!111 Square shield "A shield with a picture of the mythical `horse`." Reminds me of a description I saw the other day... "Examine Ogre Standard" - "Not Very High" *groan*

I got it once. I was just standing around, talking on PM. I chose the box and got an old boot. I still have it for some reason.

Good question. Normally the caps are a result of the types of numbers they use. The largest 32 bit signed number is 2147483648, and that seems to be the largest quantity of items you can have (for example GP). But this 200 million seems kinda arbitrary.
-
Also, Jagex claims the first person to reach 200 mil XP will be #1 forever. So certain people can never be #1 in all skills. I don't know if this is true or not though...

I'm 28. I was introduced to the game by someone a couple years younger than me who was introduced by someone in their 30s. When you are our age I bet you will still be playing video games too.

bwahaha! Now I can actually find buyers for my black kites (h)! I wonder if we can we say "Heraldic" in the game yet...

I got my first the other day. I chose the box and got an old boot. Stupid!!! So Stupid!!!!!!

nah, that's not how you do it... You take a raw tuna and bury it in a tree patch, then water it with milk and do the scared emote. Come back 209 minutes later and you have a scythe tree. But you can't pick it unless you have 4 bananas in your inventory. It's true, my cousin's friend's brother's roomate's pet monkey did it once.

I got search a crate near a cart in Port Khazard twice on a level 1 clue. I also recently dug up a casket and when I opened it, down the bottom of the screen it said "you found another clue" with a picture of a casket next to it. When I clicked OK I had another casket in my inventory. Inside that was a clue though....

old treasure trail stuff getting rare?
toastedspleen replied to jwrm22's topic in General Discussion
I doubt it would affect it much, the prices are set by demand. For example, the current chances of getting a highwayman mask from a level 1 clue is about 1:150. The chance of getting a beret is about 1:25. Berets cost more because there is more demand. -
Since I steal all my own allotment seeds, and have 1.5K sweetcorn in the bank, yes I do... I'll estimate worst case... approx. 10 sweetcorn seeds per theiving session on the master farmer 1 theiving session is about 10 minutes average of say... 10 corn per 3 seeds you need 100 crops * 3 seeds = 300 seeds for 1K sweetcorn To get 300 seeds, it would take 30 theiving sessions at 10 minutes each = 5 hours You can grow 24 seeds at a time, so growth time is (300 / 24) * 55 = approx 11.5 hours 5 hours + 11.5 hours = 16.5 hours This concludes today's math lesson.

Farming is not worthless you can grow ranarrs (as already mentioned) and make pray pots and sell for 6k-6.5k each, or do barrows yourself and make tons more (maybe). Growing sweetcorn and cooking it gives you 104xp per corn. So if you have 1000 raw sweetcorn that's over 100k cooking XP right there for minimal effort. Then make the new tuna potato and use the food or sell it. A basket of strawberries heals 30, good for training. And it is not slow, I went from 68-70 in 2 days. Of course it was expensive....

You know party hats and christmas crackers weren't Jagex's idea, right? http://www.christmas-crackers-usa.com/ -
Pickpocket HAM Members for level 1 clues. It's the fastest way in the game. It takes less time to pickpocket 200 times than to kill 200 men. Although 200 times with nothing is just bad luck.

I have successfully collected ALL the pages for all 3 books myself by doing clues. Of course, I haven't done the quest to get the books.... maybe I should do that...

Upgrade memory or Vid Card for beter performance?
toastedspleen replied to deangut's topic in Tech and Computers
A new video card won't help out Runescape, since it is 100% software rendering, nothing is rendered by the video card except the final blit to the screen. I'm really surprised that Runescape uses that much memory. I'll have to check what my PC uses. -
I made a list of the level 1 clue rewards I got here... http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=370598 It seems like it averages out to something "good" every 6 clues or so, but you can get a long streak where you get nothing at all. Actually, in all the clues I've done since then, I think I've done much worse. EDIT: I only got 1 highwayman mask in 140 clues, that tells you how rare those are... Berets are fairly rare too, but not as bad...
