August 15, 201213 yr I have to say people always say they can see bots on the highscores but the trouble is that is not PROOF they are bots. You could quite easily be wrong about many of them, Jagex has to be pretty sure before the hand out bans. I mean how many times in-game people accuse you of being a bot cause you don't talk or w/e the highscores is no different, it's one thing being some player who knows the usual traits of a botter who got masses of xp and thinking someone fits the bill it's a whole different ball park actually having 100% tangible evidence to take action on it. August 15, 201213 yr While that may be true, how many legitimate players train 4-5 skills to mid-40s to reach one specific area, then suddenly decide to go for 200m hunter? If anything, playing in such a way should be throwing up red flags left and right, and the account investigated further for evidence, well before they gain so much xp. I know, I know, they want to focus on "breaking" rather than "banning" bots, but if they have some new shiny data-analysis method they want to earn some goodwill from, shouldn't it be better at identifying probable bots than a regular player is? And shouldn't more than 101 bots have been banned, considering there are probably thousands using the same bot scripts?
August 15, 201213 yr They said they had this new data analysis like late last week, this week they've banned a bunch of thief bots with it. What more do you want? They can't magically view the data for thousands upon thousands of accounts and make the choice to ban them instantaneously, some human(s) have to look at the accounts this new method is flagging up and verify them. Besides they already said expect more to follow, give it a chance before you write it off. August 15, 201213 yr Author Horse... stable door... bolted... It's too late, the chinchompas they hunted have been sold and as you only need 63 hunter to get them there wuill be plenty of new bots to take their spots. We need the bot nuke to stop them from working, not just banning them once the damage has been done. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. August 15, 201213 yr It was easy for Jamflex to ban those bots- who hits 200m hunter then keeps hunting chins? Only a bot. There, that was their analysis for ya. They did not even touch any sub 200m bot in that 101 they banned, much as they make it appear they did. I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
August 17, 201213 yr Just some info about the clan avatar 3% worldwide xp bonus. 1. To get it you have to be around the avatar to get the bonus to kick in, then you can wander wherever.2. When the summoner of the avatar logs out the bonus goes away and even if they log back in people will have to get the bonus back by going near it again.2. The 6% range is incredibly small so pretty much only usable for relatively stationary skills3. It behaves similar to lumberjack/goldminingoutfit/fishermen/masterrcrobes/blackibis and should stack with them.4. Avatar behaves like a familiar (I haven't tested any combat with it). It feels kind of stupid that we can't set lower than admin ranks to be able to summon them. Still need to mess around with it a bit more to find out more stuff.
August 17, 201213 yr You people need to use real world thinking. All I see is absolute and all or nothing thoughts on the bots and banning. Bots are programs, very clever programs, build around the game. The effort in recognizing the most harmful bots and taking appropriate action is immense because they can mimic what looks like a real player and finding out what bot a player was using is virtually impossible Truthfully I see this discussion flaring up soon. I also foresee the aforementioned players being labeled dim-witted, ill-informed or plain ignorant to the issue. This all happening because someone would rather fork the blame on jagex, which is the traditional way of handling issues with the game. They would rather not completely understand the scope of the issue. Instead they would rather blow hot air and express their indignation because they feel all knowing with a pure righteousness. By the way to make this topic go by much more interestingly take the time and really think about the scope of the issue and how far it spans. Think about what type of players are botters. Why they decided to bot. What types of bots they use. also think about other aspects of game play. Does the player leave the bot or do the babysit it. Often I've seen that term used in botting communities for players testing out early released bots. Also think about customer relations and the delicate interaction between customer and business. The business has to be very sure of itself that a player is botting. What gives the player away? What are the possible outcomes from banning an innocent player when they feel fully sure they are guilty? Will that player return on the wrong path with a new character, go on the right path and learn or leave completely? How pervasive is the botting and scripting communities? From what I know there are tons of people who learn how to script these bots. The may come out with a rough program, but the thing with programming is it is art. You don't usually just make something and it's done. These guys spend a lot of time tweaking, adding in things, or ever reengineering the script to work with different updates. My point being is the scope of the issue is large... Maybe not grand, but definitely large. If you want to boil it down so much as to huff and puff and tout that it's all jagex fault because they're lazy I'll gladly call you a simple minded idiot. There is a lot of effort and bases to cover when handling bots and the makers. As a player I can see how you'd think it's as easy as calling someone out. You report the to jagex. Then as if magic they are automatically banned, they are genetically banned from creating another account. In your mind you might imagine jagex has some how found a way to collect player DNA to add to a blacklist of people who cheat.
