They could have taken the old shards and reforged them into a new weapon. This would allow for customization.

The hilts are enchanted. When attached to the magic-absorbing blade, the metal changes to have different properties, including looks. Retcon achieved.

 

Love the new looks. I actually got a lot of amusement from that ogre poking his own belly button, then eating it.

At 0:12 on the right you can see updated Pernix, Virtus, and some players wearing what looks like Torva boots.

Maybe the power of each specially made hilt has an effect on the godswords blade?

I'm betting on them saying hell with the lore and just making 4 impressive swords.

I do find it interesting that they are removing the special effect of the god swords at the same time as making them look different... So now they are only cosmetically different instead of realistically different.

Totally agree, given the current graphical level they are producing they really need to give most monsters and npcs a once over and the vast majority of the map too.

 

I mean off the top of my head they ought to do this kind of makeover for:

1. Shanty Desert - like the entire thing all the settlements etc. Make them inkeeping with the rocky stylings of the abbey and forthcoming kharid, though obviously more ancient eygpt style building.
   
2. Lumbridge and Draynor - One of the more up-to-date areas but still behind now
   
3. Varrock - Same as above
   
4. Falador - Same again
   
5. Sarim & Rimmington - Bit dated now
   
6. Musa Point & Brimhaven - not been touched for years
   
7. Southern Karamja (Tai Bwo, Shilo, shipyard etc.) - again very dated.
   
8. Yanille and Guntannoth - Don't think this has ever had a proper makeover, include MA, jungle hunter, cwars, port khazrad and fight arena and observatory
   
9. Ardougne - both east and west
   
10. Seers & Cathurby & Camelot - again looking dated
    
11. Trollheim & other northern reaches
    
12. Fremminik lands - rellekka and all the islands
    
13. Tirrawan - seriously thoose trees are kinda messed up next to the newer stuff
    
14. Crandor, Soulwars Isle, Ape atoll, brain death etc. - basically all the islands.
    
15. Brimhaven dung

The Karidian Desert hasn't been changed since it was texturized with RSHD I believe, so it does very much need an update. Falador and Varrock need some polishing, but Lumbridge is one of the more ok places in my opinion. Rimmington got an update with the Queen Black Dragon, but the area above Rimmington (Melzar's Maze area) should be given a small rework. Other than those comments I like your list. ^

Draynor was fairly recently updated anyways, along with the night/day thing in the area (it's always gloomier there). I think that was an oversight.

 

I agree that everything south in the members area could use some fresh paint. While it takes longer, I would prefer to see this release all at once instead of in bits and pieces.

Poor lore, first all the silly cosmetic stuff, the Runespan et. al, and now this Godsword fiasco :D

Have to admit, Jagex aren't the best at updating mechanics together with graphics. Expect to get that message for at least the first two weeks of the rework, if they ever fix it at all. :P
