Player-Owned Ports: Voyage Calculator

Recommended Posts

Yes, those things all save correct, even the pop_voyage.htm saves it correct, but I can't get the timers to work.

Edit: Ok, just found a way around it myself:

Deleting the "saveShipTimers: []" doesn't work

If you however edit it to {"first": some random number here}, THEN RELOAD THE PAGE (if you don't, it puts [] again), then it starts working, no clue how that happens but it works.

I haven't got enough experience with javascript, but it seems like, if there is no value to be edited, it doesn't work (deleting the saveShipTimers, made it save [] again)

I found a minor bug this morning: if you force 5 crew members, the calculator does nothing (the result blanks to 0). I would expect it to calculate at least which ship parts to use // give me the total success I will have using those 5 crew members.

Also have a related bug. Tried to force 5 crew members (did not know about the little button in top left of each crew at the time) and now calculator is locked. Cannot get any calculations to work at all, no crew selected, no ship upgrades used, zero chance of success.

Any hints as to how to unlock/fix problem?

Thanks.

I can personally confirm that, with today's update, percentage traits do indeed work.

Some of the ship upgrades need to be selected. Make sure to always check the top one in each section. Make sure that all the Force checkboxes are off, and all the Use checkboxes are on. That should do the trick.

That's good to hear. Sadly none of my own captains actually have percentage traits, so I'm having a hard time testing any code changes that are now needed for the calculator...

I have verified in excel that the tactician, leader, and other % traits work.

I was using a captain with leader and tactician and a jade golem with leader, no other crew, as a test item and everything was within 0.2 of the expected value, which given the rounding is pretty close.

Any thoughts on how multiple traits like that are going to be displayed? I expect it will not be easy to make it user friendly. :?

Otherwise, the calculator has been an absolutely brilliant help.

I've been using the calculator since I built my 4th ship and I love it! Thank you!

Today, however, I noticed that the calculator is not computing the Shipwright Upgrade 'sleek' correctly. The percentages are showing lower than when I add the info into the interface on RuneScape.

I am using IE 9 with cookies saved to my computer. All was working great until today when I upgraded my Shipwright to sleek.

Just wanted to give a heads up incase no one else reported this. =]

Lastly, I see that traits have been added... How do we add traits? I see no where on the calculator that we can add any traits to the Captains. All of mine have 4 traits each.

Just a heads-up: I'm still thinking about how to add traits to the user interface in such a way that it does not get in the way of the other bits and pieces. So it's not forgotten, just needs some more time to do it right. Also keep in mind this is just one of many projects, and there are only so much hours in a day :)

I'll look into the Sleek shipwright upgrade and see if I can find out what going on there.

Thanks Xena! I appreciate the quick response and hope you can figure out the sleek shipwright and get it working.

PS... I only mentioned the traits because I read it on other posts. I never even thought about it being part of the calculator. :D

Percentage traits have been added to voyage calculator. For best results, make sure you refresh the calculator page by hitting Ctrl-F5 so it forces a complete reload of the code.

To add percentage traits, simply click the Traits button below the captain's image, and check the percentage traits that captain has. Click the traits button again (or another captain's traits button) to close the popup.

The Sleek shipwright should now also be working as intended.

Thank you for your hard work, Xena! I'll check out the Sleek function when my ships come in later today.

I do have a question regarding the traits. My captains have traits such as Fast Learner, Eagle-Eyed, Eager, Plucky, etc. The only traits that are coming up as options are Leader, Tactician, Seafriend, Gloombringer, Liability, and Storm Magnet. None of my captains have any of these traits, nor have I ever come across any of these other than Leader.

Is there something else I need to do to correct this on my end?

Thank you again for your help, it is appreciated. :D

For traits that give a visible boost to stats, input the stats directly into the stat fields.

The traits listed are 1% traits, which don't visibly add to the captain's stats, but instead modify the stats of the whole ship.

Also Xena, are there plans to update the calculator to allow for captains with multiple copies of a % trait (e.g. 4x Leader) or crew members with % traits (e.g. a Jade Merchant with Seafriend)?

Thank you for the quick response, Saradomin. I'm still a bit confused and don't want to mess up my calculator by adding stats that I am unsure of. I'll just keep it as it is for now and if I need to add something specific, I'll do that later on. I'm just grateful for the calculator at all. :D

1) Ah, good point, didn't think of that... Perhaps a better way would be to have 4 drop down lists, each containing the 6 possible percentage traits. I'll look into it.

2) Do such crew members actually exist? It was my understanding that % traits only occur for captains... Just found proof that they do. This is not good news, as I now need to find a free spot on the interface to stick a traits button for a crew member, or perhaps come up with another way of entering traits. To be continued I suppose...

All the traits you mention are already included in the stats of the captains. For example; Eager adds a +40 bonus to Morale. If your captain shows 740 Morale (and he has no other Morale boosting traits) then his base Morale is 700, and the +40 comes from the Eager trait. The only traits that are not included in a captain's stats are the 6 percentage traits that are listed on the calculator's traits popup.

Ahhh.. Now I get it! Thank you for the explanation. The Sleek seems to be working well too. You're awesome! \:D/

Another update today:

  • Crew members now also can have traits.
  • Captains and Crew members can have more than one of the same trait.

Please note that the calculator allows you to enter up to 4 traits for any crew member, but the game only allows 4 traits for a captain, and 2 or 3 (depending on the crew type) for a crew member.

Anyone else having difficulties with this now? Clicking "Calculate" doesn't select any of my captains or crew and only selects the first option in each list for ship upgrades. I've tried reloading my save multiple times, using two other browsers, restarting my computer, using another computer, and even on my iPhone. I haven't installed/uninstalled/enabled/disabled any add-ons since it stopped working a day or so ago.

Hi Deathlord! My calculator is working great. I'm wondering if you have accidentially unchecked all of your captains and crew. Check to make sure they are all checked by looking under 'Captain and Crew'. On the left under that heading is a box to check 'Select All'. This will select all of the captains and crew to use. As for the ship upgrades, I have not found the checkmarks at the top of each column to work properly. I have all of the upgrades and physically checked each one manually in order for it to work for me.

Hope this helps! :D

For some strange reason, after resetting my router once more, everything began to work again. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Okay, so finally after experiencing problems with this calculator for quite some time now, I've finally decided to come to the forums for help. Okay so a while back probably a few weeks to a month ago, when I used the calculator after I'd type in what was necessary for my voyage and hit calculate the whole calculator would freeze the page (As in I couldn't scroll up or down) while it calculated the voyage. Now lately when I've been using the calculator, it has stopped freezing the page when I click calculate and I'm able to scroll down the page but the calculator takes FOREVER.

Also not to mention, when the calculator has finished calculating my voyage, it now completely freezes the page in definitely and I end up having to close out the tab and re-open a new one and start the process all over again.

Hey TearGod,

a few questions first:

1. Has it always been as slow as it is, or is it something which just started happening one day.

2. What browser are you using?

3. Is it the latest version of that particular browser?

The calculator isn't instant, simply due to the amount of calculations it takes to actually find the best combination. The calculation of the first ship takes the longest, since more combinations are possible. A quote from a few pages back, shows just how many calculations are done:

For just one voyage the calculator makes about 14.3 million calculations to find the optimal crew. If you then send that ship away, and take 1 captain and 5 crew members out of the equation you need about 3.3 million calculations to find the best crew for the second ship.

If you don't already have the latest version of your browser, I'd suggest upgrading. I'll mention this thread to @Xena_Dragon who might be able to help you further. It works perfectly for me, sometimes slower than you'd like but that is simply due to the enormous amount of calculations as already mentioned.

Hi,

1. It's been about the same speed it takes to calculate voyages.

2. Chrome.

3. Yes I have the latest version of Chrome.

Well that would explain why it takes as long as it does to calculate. I guess now I just have to try and deal with the fact that it sometimes freezes my entire page.
