tefda
people will still use fansites....there are communities here. this is just an update for people who dont feel secure coming to external runescape sites. Exactly! The Knowledge Base doesn't set up events, it doesn't have people you can have conversations with. This is a safety measure so instead of saying "Go to Tip.it for some skill guides" you can say "Check out the Knowledge Base for the guide" and you have nothing to fear from Jagex. Warhammer
has anyone noticed the beastery thing is gone? I mean on runescapes site. As far as that tip it gonna be gone cuz of runescape putting up a guide, that won't really happen. And ok so now we got some competition on our hands, jagex is busy doing other things and probably won't update their manual as much as the fansites will. So you still have competiton from runehq. I think there is some more sites out there but they don't exactly have as much info.
ixfd64
I don't think fan-sites will be obsolete. After all, we have free forums. :) ARENAscape: Baratus [AS] max hit: 166 with Moon Battle Hammer ixfd64 [AS] max hit: 116 with (untitled spell #2)

Mc_comix_yo
Well, I DO know Jagex ripped at least one picture from Wikipedia.com's RuneScape article. It was an animated picture of a girl with full dragon on, and a fire cape that was flowing. Now, however, that picture is gone, and replaced with something else (I forget what, I'll check later), so... I think Jagex stole it, unless Jagex was the one to upload it, which I doubt highly. I'll stick to Tip.It :P
All_Bogs
has anyone noticed the beastery thing is gone? I mean on runescapes site. It is? Cool, that might actually mean they'll get around to updating it sometime
Exovion
What I want to see is what will they do when the new 100th quest comes out, will they release the reward info as soon as its released or will they wait awhile. Fansites & the Knowledge Database are almost two separate things, Fansites give walkthroughs while the knowledge database is only giving tips and hints, simple as that. shade_bandyt
this is jagex not only biting the hand that feeds them, as i pointed out in my thread about advertising but its also a slap in the face of fansites. now they are giving themselves more justification to ban people for mentioning tipit or google. for all the years that fansites have been doing jagex's work of being the first source of customer support. any walkthrough or question about runescape, the fansites were the first place to go. now jagex is trying to take that away. and just so they can justify more unfair bans. sickening if you ask me Are you a member with a full bank and cancelling your subscription? Are you an F2P player that wants more bank space? Check out my guide on Going to F2P with a full bank
blue107
i doubt many people use fansites for things like that, only for quest guides, treasure trail and the forums 485th person to ever play RuneScapeBlue107- perm banned 10/12/2007. $300 USD reward if you can get me in contact with someone who will take 5 seconds to look at evidence and get my original character unbanned. runnybabbit
I was just gonna make this topic. I agree with you fully. lol whos mind didn't wander to the words" down with fansites!" when they read this?
fishm0nger
This kind of thing had to come out sooner or latter. jagex blatently says don't go to fansites but they have supplied a very important customer support source in terms of guides. This is just jagex getting its house in order and being less reliant on fansites. Also jagex probably knows it can't kill fan sites because of f2p. I go to the forums on runescape for one thing really, the market. That is practically closed off to f2p and the fan sites substitute that for them.
