kwimbob
13 March 2006 - New Improved Game Guide Released! Next Today we have released a beta version of our new Knowledge Base system, packed with hints+tips about the game and answers to your gameplay and technical questions. With over 150,000 words, hundreds of pages and thousands of images, there's lots of information to improve your RuneScape experience. The aim of this update is to provide better support for our players, so that if you're stuck or just need some friendly advice, you can quickly get the help you need rather than asking Customer Support or hoping someone is talking about it on the forums. The Knowledge Base includes: * Statistics for armour and weapons * Quest rewards fully detailed. * XP gains listed for many activities, to help you decide the best levelling strategy. * Tips and tricks on how to train. * Hints on successfully completing minigames. * Location and transportation guides. * Basic and advanced sections for every skill. * In-depth FAQ documents. * Detailed guidelines regarding customer support, rules, forum use, reporting abuse, bans and safety and security documents. * Scamming prevention guides. * Website, billing and technical support. * Special Knowledge Base news. * Lists of the most popular articles. ... Plus all the normal "how to start playing" guides. The RuneScape Knowledge Base also has a search function to help players find the information they want at the touch of a button. Important Information This is a BETA launch so that we can get your ideas and suggestions to make the Knowledge Base a better tool. It is, after all, designed to help you, so we want to know if it does! Whilst it's packed full of info, it's very much a work in progress at the moment. We know some bits of it aren't perfect (yet), and there is still lots more we want to add, and further improvements are planned over the next few weeks. But we thought we'd let you see what we've been working on and have produced so far. Your feedback is important to us. If you wish to discuss any of the features in the Knowledge Base, we have provided a specific forum for members to discuss the content of the pages and even on the way it is presented. If you find any bugs or mistakes in the Knowledge base, please use the category provided in our bug reporting page and be as clear as possible with your feedback or report, so we can make it a super accurate source of info. Please remember, some articles contain suggestions and opinions on how to play the game. Your views may differ from the authors' views. Please feel free to discuss this on the forum, but do not submit it as a bug. Opinions are only opinions. So, if you need illumination about where to find candles, seek enlightenment about the prayer skill, want to hook up with more detailed fishing information or even get technical with technical support, the KB is the place to be! We hope you find the KB useful, and that it makes your experience in RuneScape a better one. Visit the Knowledge Base today! kwimbob
I mean this is the ultimate fan site, it's their own, they have all the information. The few things they don't have (and that we must hold on to, lol) are: Quest guides (they do have rewards now, though, and ways to search for rewards) Calculators An Item database Treasure trail walkthrough (though they all the info you'd need without the walthrough) Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. SpencerM98
I doubt they would ever list a complete quest walk-thru so I don't see their knowledge base being a complete substitute for fansites.

But this thing is actually pretty amazing. Check out the treasure trail guide rewards section, it looks pretty cool. Check out the barrows minigame guide in general, it's really... wow, and it also confirms that kill count does nothing towards getting you items and that you should just kill all 6 bros and open it! But anyways... I think we can forgive them for lacking in good non-automated responses  This has all those FAQs..... Uldric
Well, seeing as it's only the beta, it's looking pretty sweet. You know that their info is gonna be 100% accurate aswell. A bit buggy for me, but I'd use it over tip.it and other fan sites most of the time.

kwimbob
One more thought is that they'll never link to us. They always said they would set up links to the best fan sites... but now they own the best fan site. Well anyways google does that good enough for us if any one ever needs the calculators or quest guides 8) Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. 007007008plp
I think jagex should of had all this info they released today on their site ages ago. This is brilliant, i love it, the pictures are pretty cool too :D pretty pictures woooo.
Lionheart_0
I think tip.it just got screwed... oh well you guys still have the quest guides and a better forum. Found this on the site for anyone wondering For completing A Fairy Tale Part I - Growing Pains, you will be rewarded a pair of Magic Secateurs. This greatly help your farming skill and experience as when they are equipped, they will increase the amount of vegetables, herbs or hops harvested by 10%. Also if you wish to fight the Tanglefoot monsters, the secateurs are the only effective weapon, the damage you inflict with the secateurs is based on your farming skill. The_Jeppoz
Well i have to say that was the least expected update they could do, on my side. I realy thought we had enough informations on the game from the old official guides and the fansites ( i'm pretty sure the largest part of RS players actualy know of at least one fansite ). The guides are well done, nothing to say...Just somehow pointless. Plus I think that those so lazy not to check a fansite for infos won't even bother looking in the database and, therefore, won't stop asking Jagex useless questions via costumer support... Fansites might suffer from this update largely on the average "clicks" since if, for example, you'r already using RS forums, you might go for a fast look in the database itself. Still the SPOILER sections of the fansites (walktrough, hints, trails solutions) the CALCULATORS and, marginaly, the SKILL GUIDES, will keep them running, i hope. I still hope this isn't the weekly update tho...

Y2g2003
I think jagex should of had all this info they released today on their site ages ago. This is one of the reasons why I'm not impressed. This "knowledge base" (if you even wanna call it that) is nothing but a effort to keep people away from fan sites. If they actually gave a crap about customer support... this would have been out at LEAST a year ago. And yes, I know the knowledge base is just a beta, but it'll never come close to the information that the fan sites have. They implemented a bunch of things when they wanted to deter people from using Swift Switch... which I can understand why. Now their just trying to get rid of fan sites in general. And to be honest... they wont be able to unless they give all the info the fan sites have, and then some. And I don't think they'll be willing to do that. I wonder what happens if you would get less than 10 crops otherwise... for example, if I was going to get 6 ranarrs from an herb patch, would I now get 6.6? Maybe it's rounded up... Oergg
see i dont think its done to destroy fansites, just kill all the bs cs questions that clog up the system, people will naturally find tipit,rv, runehq, and enjoy them more, why? because its a site made by PEOPLE, this knowledge base is exactly that, a knowledge base, its rigid and dehumanized i dont think theyll try to kill fansites, fans are the MOST importanting marketing jagex has
SaidinWoT
A guide for beating barrows... JAGeX never would have posted a guide on how to beat something meant to be hard unless they were trying to make fan sites obsolete... so I'd say that was a key factor in making this happen.
