Do you love the country you live in?

Featured Replies

I live in USA, southern California, and it gets hot in the summer, like 100 degrees F, which would be around 30 C I think? It's raining now which I like, since it doesn't rain much here. We got a crappy president and governor. I'll rather live in Europe like in England or Germany.

I guess I'm alright living in the US - at least, the NYC area. It does feel like home. I don't like the way the mainstream of the country is going, however... sorry barihawk :D I feel that even the Republican conservative party is changing - it's not so much about economic conservatism anymore as it is about social conservatism, tying in religious morals, and bending the rules of legality to increase executive authority, which bothers me far more.

ANYWAY, I'd really like to live in Prague :D Oh, Czech Republic, how I love thee :D Or at least somewhere in Eastern Europe, maybe Hungary or Austria or something. I'll hopefully be studying abroad in Budapest, Hungary in a year and a half!! 8)

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

I don't love it.

I'm glad I am from here, but I don't go wafting it in the faces of others, treating an inanimate flag like it is my newborn child, or pledge allegiance to said flag every day - those are just the actions of zealots.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Well, I used to. :?

The politics and policies of the United States makes me mad. The people too (well, sometimes).

those are exactly my feelings

as i live in the U.S.A :)

Mad, I actually like the moralistic movement :). I think society is "progressing" much too fast for it's own good. But hey, it's every American's God-given right to love or hate the government! That's why America is great!

And Anasthesia, I am patriotic but I have not pledged allegiance to the flag in like 6 years. ;)

if winter was shorter, i would like it around here. the temperatures over all are a little low for my taste, but i get by by leaving the heater on all the time :D .

politically this country is closer to what i want than a lot of other countries, a few are better. everyone speaks english here though, so this is probably where i will stay :P . (tried learning a foreign language, brain is to small  )

You're right! A lot of the Republican party is about social conservatism now, whereas it hasn't always been. But that's because we're fighitng this socially progressive liberal party that we didn't use to be fighting! :P Oh another conversation for another day... I'll always love you Mad, even if you're way off in your politics

I love America. I love a lot of other countries too so don't think that I believe America is the only good country to live in. I'd like to live in Britain and Australia as well I think. I think I have the type of personality that I would be very patriotic no matter what country I was born in...

Yea... Canada FTW!

I live in america... so no.

Well, I live in Holland. Lets see, what will I be proud about......

We have...... errr...... We have about the only country in the world where it's legal to smoke weed!

w00t!

aaaand.... well.... our FBI equivalent (the AIVD) leaks top secret intelligence to everyone who wants to know about once a week, twice in hot weather. 8)

aaaaaand.... our lovely Prime Minister is a splitting image of "The Boy Who Lived", and has the IQ of a not-so-well-trained monkey

here he is, the one and only, Peter Balkenende!

aarghmyeyesitbuuuuurns2xj.png

Yup, this man, or lame excuse for one, is running our country.

What would I NOT be proud about? hmm?

You guessed it, I'm VERY patriotic.

PS:

I have not pledged allegiance to the flag in like 6 years.

Why do Americans do that anyway? Perhaps I'm being really dumb, but, any Dutch person that would pledge allegiance to our flag would be recommended to see a psychiatrist ASAP. (not kidding here, well, not really)

But hey, it's every American's God-given right to love or hate the government! That's why America is great!

You sort of imply by that statement that it is not every non-American's God given right to love or hate their government :| it makes it seems that freedom of choice is American-exclusive.

Maybe this is because the liberal party is changing from economic liberality to social liberality?

Anyways, On-T - I live in Canada, and I've got no complaints.

I don't think that he meant it that way :D We Americans are just proud that we guarantee this particular god-given right.

I am proud to be an American. Always a critic, always a patriot. I love my country, and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Well, not permanently, anyway. I'd definitely like to take a year abroad if I could, though. Go to England and see if that whole sexy accent thing works going the other way across the Atlantic

Sorry Insane :(.

Of course every man, woman, and child in the world can love/hate thier country. But they they have that written in law? :P

No: it's taken as read in most places.

I don't love my country. As Anaesthesia said, I like it, and I'm glad I'm from here (though there are other places in the world I wouldn't mind living, of course). I suppose I'm proud of certain aspects of the place... but then, people from all places have things to be proud of, and I don't see that I'm any more patriotic than anyone else.

Maybe this is because the liberal party is changing from economic liberality to social liberality?

A lot of the Republican party is about social conservatism now, whereas it hasn't always been. But that's because we're fighitng this socially progressive liberal party that we didn't use to be fighting!

The difference, however, is that the "progressive" social liberal politics are based on MORE freedom, instead of limiting people based on your own system of morals, which not everyone may agree with. The only system of morals the liberals tend to agree on is more choice for the individual. Except gun control, on which the "liberal" opinion is slightly out of the blue. And I disagree personally with abortion, because murder is another category... BUT! Overall, it's really social conservatism that is threatening to liberty at the moment, not social liberalism. Wanting to allow people the marriage (surely a very personal choice) they choose? Wanting to allow people to choose whether or not they want to die quickly and painlessly (surely a very personal choice) when they're already dying? This is really the wrong forum for this debate, so I'll stop now. Liberalism has always been about expanding choice. Conservatism also has, traditionally, in the past! But not during this past presidency. :(

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Yeah. I like the country I live in. I live in the southern part of the US, and I could go for some cooler weather. I'd really like to travel to other countries and other parts of this country to see if there's someplace that I like better.

To all of you, I live in Quebec, to the rest of us Canadians, La Belle Province. Bit nippy our right now, its still snowing in BLOODY APRIL!

On the flip side, it's been proven that women are probably better mothers

We can make excuses all day. We can say that OUR beliefs are the right ones, we can say that OUR beliefs don't infringe upon people's rights, we can say that OUR beliefs aren't hypocritical. But then we'd be lying. The reason I like the conservative way America is headed is because this is how conservatism says it:

"We think that we should be able to tell people what to do concerning morality and so when we see it fit to do so, we're going to."

Whereas liberalism seems to say it more like this:

"We think that its wrong to tell people what they can and cannot do based on personal morality, unless we personally decide differently - but that's in a different category."

At least the America I love can admit that all legislation stems from morality, and we have no problem defining a universal right and wrong (in a legal way that is).

Oh good Lord!

Sorry bari, didn't realize you were the only one allowed to voice your political opinions.

You're right - its about why we love our countries.. Last time I checked, mad and I were discussing why we have different opinions concerning the liking and disliking of how things are going in our country.
