Do you love the country you live in?

Featured Replies

To all of you, I live in Quebec, to the rest of us Canadians, La Belle Province. Bit nippy our right now, its still snowing in BLOODY APRIL!

Yay for Quebecois! Your dialect of French is so spiffy (yet so funny xD).

I love languages.

J'adore les langues.

Whats the point in a yes/no only response in a forum? The whole point is to have a discussion.

Canada... wouldnt have it any other way :D

I long to do what I need to do to get and be licensed to drive a nice touring motorcycle (BMW, Honda Goldwing, whatever) and take a tour of all the States, particularly the ones I haven't seen yet.

I've discussed my political stance with weez; he has at least a vague idea where I stand. What pisses me off is the current trend of political polarization. People marching to the left and the right... was Clinton really that bad? God forbid that the major political parties be centrist :P

Still, it's what I know, basically. I live in Washington, mostly where I am now but I've been to the coast and back. Cross the Cascades and political viewpoints flip-flop... we've occasionally been compared to California.

But no, I like it here. Particularly here in the Pacific Northwest.

Yes I love Scotland and I love living here.

I wouldn't say the politics are great here but in the end that doesn't bother me.

I'd say the only bad thing is the dull weather. If I was to move somewhere else it would be to somewhere like Australia where you get some nice weather 8)

But hey, it's every American's God-given right to love or hate the government! That's why America is great!

You sort of imply by that statement that it is not every non-American's God given right to love or hate their government :| it makes it seems that freedom of choice is American-exclusive.

I don't think that he meant it that way :D We Americans are just proud that we guarantee this particular god-given right.

I am proud to be an American. Always a critic, always a patriot. I love my country, and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Well, not permanently, anyway. I'd definitely like to take a year abroad if I could, though. Go to England and see if that whole sexy accent thing works going the other way across the Atlantic

I live in England... do we actually have sexy accents? lol

yeah i do love my country in some ways but not all too many bleedin' idiots at my school, and the PM is a bit of a [puncture], other than that it is all good, especially fish and chips :) yum yum.

It's inexplicable, but American ladies just melt for a British accent. It's kind of a pain in the wagon sometimes. I'll be making progress on a girl, then all of a sudden some visiting Brit says cheerio and it's like I'm not even in the room anymore :|

I think I've heard that it works the other way, though. Someday I'm going to England, and we'll see what happens when I start exploiting my suave yankee vocabulary 8)

:D I like the Scottish accent the best.

I am loving it here in Oregon, USA (American by birth, Oregonian by Grace of God :) ).

Wonderful weather (well, except for the 45 inches of rain we get occasionally), friendly people, great educational system.

Government is fine (every administration does things people don't like Weez. I'm sure Conservatives were just as miffed at the government when Clinton was there). Economy is going well except for gas prices, and those are being worked on.

I am a patriotic person, not a "weekend warrior" like seemingly millions of people who only get patriotic when it is "fashionable."

He hit it. :P :D 8)

fan of her's.
You know what I hate? People putting an apostrophe on a personal pronoun. STOP IT.

I love Canada, and I love the rainy WEST COAST! Great place. Lots of crazy doped up hobos on East Hastings to harrass. Loads of fun.

Oh, it does. Was just talking on the phone today to an Aussie friend that loves American accents (British too, actually). Ok, that's not technically the 'other way' you were speaking of, but I've heard a few vague anecdotes, too.

Hm, as an American, I wonder if we're stuck with this form of government and culture, or if there will eventually be something else to replace it with.

And I don't mean some kind of tyranny, but a better form of democracy..

any ideas what could be possible?

Yep, we have an American student come to our school and suddenly he had all the girls. Whats funnier is that a girl at his old school said if he came back with a British accent she'd marry him :P.

I offered to go back in his place .

Well, at the current rate in 100 years only 2% of the population will vote. The rest will be so apathetic to politics that any common Joe can take over and nobody would care.

Oh hell yeah! :D

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

Could just keep reporting them to your council untill they realise that green lawn of theirs isn't worth the $500 or so fine each time they get caught.

There's some guy in my street who doesn't give a [cabbage] about the restrictions. And because of that he's been fined just over 20 times in the last 3 years. $150 for the first one, $225 for the second and $300 for all the others.

Makes you wonder if he actually gives a toss :ugh: One day I swear I'm going to rip up his lawn so he's got nothing to water.

 ~$6000? That̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s my income for half a year, all for a few years of fines; talk about a waste.

Over 3 years.

If it was over 3 months, I'd find it more amusing. And 2K a year on fines is nothing to someone who earns that much in a fornight :-?

I was born in China, and moved to Sweden with my family when I was 4, so I don't remember much about China... I've been back to China a few times since then, and yeah, I do like China, but I can't imagine actually living there.

I used to think Sweden was the best country in the world, and nowhere is better than Sweden, but now however, I really can't wait to get out of Sweden. I still like the country, but I'd like to try something new. Oh, and the worst thing about Sweden is its winters. They are soooo long and dark, can't stand them.

Personally I hope that everyone wouldn't be allowed to vote :P Look at leaders like Berlusconi, Bush, Halonen (at Finland) or Sharon (ok, he's ex now). Voting doesn't show who is the best, it just shows who's the most popular or has manipulated the media the most :P That reminds me of a convo I had with one girl just a day before our elections. She first talked about things she wanted to see at our president. Pretty ironic that the one she voted didn't meet any of those things, but her candidate was the only woman there...

Nah, I want to leave the US. Too corrupt/self important for me. Neither the republicans or democrats are good. Usually the dems and reps agree on issues; health care, taxes, etc. I want to live in Ireland when I have a chance and then work there or somewhere else in the UK.

Thats a good point hohto about people just being manipulated. One else would you propose instead though? One good thing about that though would be that people would realize that they are being jipped and try to change it instead of the current situation where most americans think everything is fine and don't realize they are being manipulated.
