How did u pay for college?

My parents pay my 250̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì bill of the housing and I get 210̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì a month as well to keep me from starving and dehydration ;)

When they were in college they worked in restaurants to get a little more spare change, I actually have ample with 210 a month, which I invest in the stock market to slightly raise the value over the months I don't use it.

i wrote out a check. when its only $1,000 for a semester, its not that bad. put my books on my credit card, only about $200. casinos sent me a check for 216, which is a certain amount per credit hour just because i live in the same county.

1 tip, move to Finland ;) Free comprehension schools, free colleges and free universities. Here you don't pay to get to the school you want, you just gotta pass the test (ie have high enough average on your comprehension school certification to get to a college you want) to get in.

scholarships and loans, in that order.

I figure that keeping my GPA up will provide me scholarship opportunities that will surpass any money I can get through working, so I forgo working during the school year to focus on studies. The rest are loans. Also, I'm planning to graduate in 2008 (a year early) just so I don't have to pay as much. It's been hell so far, but I'm managing the load.

In Scotland, scottish students have their tuition fees paid for them.

The money I needed to get through uni was to basically live on (rent, food, books etc.) I got a student loan for that and now have ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã9k debt :)

Although that is kind of annoying, back when my eldest sister was at uni they gave out bursaries to every student, so they didn't have to pay back any money :(

I don't mean to gloat, but my parents have had high expectations for me for the past 5 years, then decided to invest into my future. I now have ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã17, 000 in the bank ready for when I go to uni(I'm 15 at the moment)... And they're still paying into it.

That's personally what I advise anybody to do(younglins such as myself). Even if you don't get into uni... You can use it somewhere else, could help you alot in life.

Maybe you should start doing other jobs, easy stuff.. Or you could progress on a hobby and turn it into a money-making plan. Eg: Graphics design: If you like that, start reading more and more upon it... Expanding your knowledge.. Then advertise yourself. Start a small, out of the way, business. Make sure it fits in with your life though, and doesn't take over it.

Thanks for the interesting topic.

Right now I'm having the same sort of dilemma. I am mainly focusing on scholarships and grants at the moment in order to pay for all of my tuition & extra expenses.

Currently I have $8,500 USD/year (through scholarships) for four years which should cover all of my tuition/books and a little left over. However, I do not plan to live on campus so I wish to get the money to cover that as well.

The FAFSA (assuming you're from the United States) is a way to get financial aid from the government. It takes about 30 minutes to complete once you have your key code and necessary paperwork but definitely worth it. Once you fill it out, your information it sent toward the universities of your choice and they will send you information on how you can get the money to pay for expenses (student work programs, grants, loans, etc.)

Other than scholarships, grants and student loans I don't see of any other way to pay for college. You can work part-time but make sure you have your affairs in order before jumping in so quickly. Remember to have FUN in college while not being too reckless or it's not worth the experience

Edit-

Make sure you're not tricked by the many fake scholarship websites which try to steal your information and money. Only go to ones you know you can trust. Discuss this with your high school counselor :)

Yea I did the fafsa and did TAP. Since I'm in New York.

I'm not that sure about scholarships cause may 1 is when the deposits are due and if I don't get any scholarships, I can't really pay it.

And they ran out of work study for the school I wanted to go to.

And theres another school that would pay full tuition and room and board, but I don't really want to go there.

Well, hmm...If you really want to go to a school, money should not be your main concern. What you should focus on is getting that deposit in to have your spot secured (ask your parents, I'm sure they will help you with the deposit at the least). If you don't get any scholarships or awards this year, focus on it more once the semester begins in the Fall. If you show the school and faculty how well you can perform, they will surely find something for you. :)

My parents are picking up most of the tab and I plan to pay them back in the future. They have about $60000 saved up for me but that'll only cover a year and a half. They made me take out some student loans and they're paying for the rest. Most people I know don't really have financial problems between financial aid from the school and parental contributions.

Wow sounds like a bit of a nightmare over in America to actually go to Uni. Over here we get government loans at a once off charge of 10% and interest at inflation, even with the 10% charge it's still a lot cheaper then some of the figures you guys are throwing around ($60000  ). I do about $10000USD a year; at that price some students still complain about the cost.

I happy to say that my company is picking up the tab for my further education at a cost of ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã8000 a year.

My advice after leaving college get a job then do a degree or equivalent through your workplace.

@DBP: I think I calculated in another topic that my uni fees up to date, would be less than the yearly cost for the average American student to go to college for a year :|

Pretty shocking.

Anyhows, I paid upfront for my Uni education. Bugger paying off a loan after I start working. I'd rather keep THAT money because it's more important than the money I saved up in the last 20 or so years when it meant nothing :P

Anyone know approx how much about 3-4 years of university would be, plus 1-2 years of teachers collage? This is for Canada.

They say 16-20K+ For university... :(

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.
