Then guess what, that's being racist. Not every black person, not every latino person, and not every arab person thinks that it's right to use "cracker" to describe white people. Here's another thing, if a person came up to me, and called me a beaner to my face, regardless what race they're from, I'd call them racist. I don't give a [bleep]. Racism isn't just a black and white thing. I've had black people, latinos, and asians being racist to me. I wonder if the person who wrote that bulletin even knows the meaning of racism.

 

 

 

Racism is thinking that some one is inferior because of their race. As we grow, the feeling that minorities are inferior to white people is re-inforced everynight when we watch the news. This isn't "us" being victimized.

 

 

 

United Negro College Fund? I think people have forgotten that only 40 years ago, it was illegal for a white man and a black man to sit together in the same bus seat. People act like black america being discriminated against is something that went away as soon as slavery was abolished. It wasn't, Jim Crow and pseudo-laws such as "Seperate But Equal" kept black america at the bottom of the barrel for more than 100 years after slavery was abolished in places like Washington D.C. Black America, at least at the moment, has to be helped as much as possible. If a white person thinks it's unfair for them to get help, and think things should be even, then I suggest their family gets put in chains for 400 years, then the the playing fields will be even. "But I've never put anyone in chains, I've never had a slave, it's not my fault what happened to them." Yeah, that's understandable, but when you imply that the crimes of the past should be forgotten, then the crimes are bound to repeat themselves. Why do you think we have places like holocausts museums? It's so people are aware of the evils man are capable of, it's so we remember and avoid those circumstances. Slavery might be gone, but when I see things(such as this bulletin) like this, it's obvious that the mentallity is still there.

 

 

 

Martin Luther King Day is to celebrate the life of a man who helped the fight to stop racism. If the person who wrote that bulletin wants things to be even, he should be reading a book on MLK to find out how that man was willing to devote his life so that America could be equal. I'm seriously disgusted that this person would call Martin Luther King Day something unfair, while claiming he wants equality. No one said that Martin Luther King day has to be "for" black people, there are millions of white people that respect and honor the message of love that MLK preached.

Yeah? It may be true that we white ppl would be considered racists if we had our own white television, college funds etc etc. But it has a reason; we already are treated with more care and respect. I'm Belgian and foreigners get a ton more of those special treatments, sometimes they even get out of hand. (for ex.: socialist party wants foreigners to have more benefits in many aspects of society than native Belgians)

 

BUT I still think it's crucial to give the minorities more chances than the majority, since most ppl of majorities get treated better anyway.

 

Society still has a lot of stereotype givens, such as men's wages are higher than their female colleagues that do the same job, white people get hired a lot easier etc.

It's not just white people who get called racists. Black people are called racists as well. I'm a white female, and I've been discriminated against being white, and being female.

 

 

 

There are racists of every culture, there are racists in every race.

 

 

 

I'm proud of my culture, I'm proud of my heritage. My family is part Irish, Native American, and English. I respect all of my ancestors, just as I would anyone else's ancestors. I don't look at the color of someone's skin. I go much deeper than that. If you're black, and you're a [wagon], I'm going to treat you just like a white/Asian/Indian/Latino(a) [wagon].

I probably hear "It's because I'm black." a million times a day. A white kid accidentally bumps into a black kid, the black kid can accuse him of shoving him in some racist act and get away with it.

 

 

 

Also, I hate hearing the slavery excuse. The common southern family could not afford to own slaves. A very small percentage of Americans owned slaves back when slavery was legal. (Which might I add was a long time ago) And it's not legal anymore. It hasn't been legal for a long long time. Native Americans were forced off their homelands. Ever heard of the "Trail of Tears"? If you haven't it doesn't surprise me one bit, because no one [bleep]es about it anymore.

 

 

 

The bottom line is, every race has faced and continues to face discrimination. It's not uncommon. What makes someone a good person is how they handle themselves when they face discrimination. You shouldn't take it to heart. If someone is going to judge you by the color of your skin, or your background, you don't need to be around them anyway.

Just as some people are open-minded and tolerant. Don't take it so seriously. It doesn't pay to. You don't need people who won't accept you for who you are. Of course! Imagine you'd be part of a minority group of, say, 10% of the people, that STILL gets treated worse in our society, without obvious reasons. If you'd call the 90% of white ppl names, it'd be a form of self-defense, because poor minorities always feel ignored and abused. If the big group of white poeple do it, it's without a particular reason, no self-defense is needed at all. That's what I call racist.

 

I myself am 'white' (I dont give a [cabbage] about colour, I'm even a little jealous on a good tan) but I would never blame a coloured person when he calls me whitey (or whatever) when he's alone. It's a completely different case when he calls me that when I'm walking in the Bronx; then I'm a minority. I think what that person on NotSafeForYou was trying to get across is double standards. I don't know how it is over in America or where ever you are from, but where i live, i can clearly see the double standards. The aboriginals are able to do what ever they like and in most cases, get away with it. For instance, i was driving home from work the other night and i happened to drive past a group of aboriginals and one threw a stick at a group of white people. Of course, they got away with it because if the whites had retaliated, they would scream bloody murder.
