NukeMarine
I'm positive Jagex would love to release a Beta of each new update. Problem would then be there's NO SUPRISE. Construction as a Beta would reveal that Oaks would be a big investment. I disagree that the bugs the report listed were items that should have been detected by Jagex. It's arrogance to state that a staff of less than a hundred people will find items in the game compared to 200k players going at the update at once. So, Jagex has made a decision. No public Beta testing. The release is the final product, give or take a few tweaks. Players will run the updates through the ringer. However, I'm not stupid. I'm wary of ANY new update, as instant death could be waiting in the wings. Guest TaDaraCampbell
i hope they fixed this bug, ive seen quite a few times- but comparing jagex to microsoft is quite odd, since you need microsoft, or mac's take on it, to pretty much run a computer, which is ultimatily used to run jagex's programs. Dexek
I say good job Jagex. Guest TaDaraCampbell
Why are people comparing jagex to companies like microsoft, it seems moronic, shouldn't you compare it to a company of its own kind- another MMORPG?

pretty_baby
Why are people comparing jagex to companies like microsoft, it seems moronic, shouldn't you compare it to a company of its own kind- another MMORPG? I think the point they are trying to make is, if huge companies with thousands of employees like Microsoft, continually release programs that have lots of bugs in them, then Jagex isn't doing too badly. XP has been out for how long and I have to download updates and fixes on a weekly basis if not more often. I have to admit that I'm in the silent majority who never finds or is inconvenienced by any of the bugs and glitches that I read about on the forums. But when I weigh the shortcomings of a game that I pay $5 a month to play bug free(so far) and an operating system that costs over $100 and continually exposes my computer to harm, Jagex wins in my opinion. WolfhunterXZ
Well said, well said. And so true. Also goes with this, and any leadership role (Such as president) You do as much as you can to make the MAJORITY happy, but there will ALWAYS be people who you can't make happy. I enjoyed the article because it's true, also, I've never lost really anything from glitches and whatnot either :P Wolfy is Officially Retired.I miss you all (Well, mostly my friends n stuff)If you want to talk to me, send me a message, I check the boards daily. :D

Justin787t
Good article. BUT I don't agree with this part. Runescape is an immense piece of software right now. There are tens of thousands of data elements, most of which can interact with most of the others in an almost infinite number of ways. In a perfect world, each data element would be tested against all the others it can interact with, in all the ways in which it can interact, before the software is released. In practice though, in order to get software released before the programmers retire, the sun collapses into a black hole, or some other cataclysm brings the universe to an end, software is released when most of the classes of data element have been tested against most of the classes of things they interact with. Its actually pretty small. 321kb at the max.
Scotteh
What I don't like about it calling that event in Falador a "massacre" A massacre would be corpses falling everywhere... Not one or two pixel huggers who lost a decent item :-w People way overdid it. People lost pixel and code, not body parts and lives. ^^ Support it or get confused by pixel-mess :D
Doomster
The idea of a beta would be interesting, but unless it was a small and very trusted community, information leaks and market manipulation would be inevitable - imagine advance warning of construction, or pure ess. I would assume that staff / J-Mod level do some beta testing but even extending it to P-Mods would risk someone telling a friend, who tells another two friends...... mosin
"The ones with nothing to complain about are far too busy playing the game to write rants." I find this rather offensive, As in, probaly you are correct. But only in a certain extent. Personally I never complain in the rants not because im engrossed in the game. Rather Im just sensible and more understanding. I belive there are alot more who are like that as well. After all, RS is actually 0wned by Jagex, so we as the players should somehow just let them decide whats best for us. In fact, some bothersome players can be labeled as 'parasites', Just the truth. While I really have to agree that there are too much what I will call 'n00bs' in the rant forum as most of them complain bout something without any solid justification. Mostly pure biased feedback who are trying to pull the system to their personal favourites in the game, E.G will be complaining one side is over-powered just to hope that Jagex will neft the opposite of the triangle. Overall the post is really well done, constructive and unbiased. Guess this will clear alot of unhappy people over the 06 06 06 event. Good Job. P.S: Occasionally when im bored and need some entertainment, instead of playing the game itself, I would go to the Rant forum. Really entertaining, im being really sarcastic, but I guess most of you will agree with me.

icantcmyeye
Ah yes, the wonderfull world of programming error. Fortunately jagex is not as sloppy as me in programming. How sloppy? Well, i've created many infinate loops, lost track of brackets, attempted to access variables that don't exist... aton30
As a programmer myself I can say the following: programs ALWAYS have bugs in them. I one time tested this by releasing a simple "hello world" program, I then set up a bug tracker, excepting nothing. I got about 15 duplicates, I didn't say what language it was in. #-o You shouldn't try and hide them, but rather ask users to report them. What Jagex has and is doing is great and commendable.
