Pixel Tiger **finished**

Recommended Posts

=; Just before you read anything else; THIs is obviously a WIP, and it is no-where near completion. all i have actually pretty much finished so far is the nose, and eyes. rest is basic colouring

well, just thought id post this. later, when i finish it, ill let others practice colouring with the linework if they want it. ill keep posting updates

this is going to take me a while to do :-w . ive started making tiger outlines previously, but i always used to lose them. now ive started again. no reference was used, hence the odd stripe patterning on the face.

comments appreciated :)

edit: i feel like a fool.. forgot to attatch the pic!

Update#1: decided to do a white tiger as well! going to do the white one first now. still not much shaded

tigerupdate2samp5ud.png

Update #2: Shaded around the nose area. not much done, only working on the white tiger at the mo. will do the other after. the out-of-place darkish grey bits are ideas for where shadows will go. theyre not gonna stay there... that and ive got to blend in the other shading more

whitetiger34vi.png

Update #3: still have to do the right ear, add more fur texture, do the stripes and fix some other things up

update #4- final version

well, i know its not great. its nothing like i originally visualised, but nevermind. The right ear (its left) was the hardest bit to do, and it still dosnt look great i know. and im aware it dosnt have whiskers; they didnt look good, no matter how i did them, so i left them out

overall, quite a few friends have said it looks really good. personally, i love it, cause its the first pixel tiger ive ever done :3>

i dont actually use most of those shades. I just put the whole scale down, INCASE i happen to need them, which i usually dont. it saves me having to find the same colour shades later.

I know about the colours. I use a number of methods to reduce the number of colours I use. as I said, i dont use the majority of them. I only put them there INCASE i need to use them, which i rarely do

lol thanks remoteman. I knew it had way too many stripes. I draw lots of tigers in rl. might post a piccy later, if i can get the scanner to work. So i know what the stripes SHOULD be like  i just didnt feel like fixing the stripes :( but now i got around to doing it, so i dont have to make a major edit later

also, a friend suggested doing a white tiger, so ive decided to do the normal coloured tiger and a white tiger. so heres both updated. all thats been done is part of the left ear, and the chin;

update #2. still nowhere near done. grey parts are just for my working out, still have to blend the shading in more, still only done shading around the nose. I will also be changing the black outlines to grey, so they dont stand out

The only, only thing I can see wrong is that the black is:

1) A bit too harsh... Dark greys rather black, as it wouldn't really be pure black. Or that dark.

2) His ear has a very black top, which really doesn't look too good.. It's a harsh change between white from black and it doesn't look right.

It's still really really good, very nice work. :)

Well. Here goes.

Not at all my kind of thing. Way too many colours. For things like this, It would be much better to photoshop some nice lineart, before Smudging together 3 or 4 different shades, to get a smoother finish.

In the top-left area of the head (and ear) I found 8 different shades of grey, but I'm sure I could've missed another 2 or 3 if I'd kept on looking. Another thing that could be improved is the Lineart. With 8+ shades of grey at your disposal, you could've carried out some pretty awesome anti-aliasing.

Another thing, Pillar Shading. It's not so bad in this piece, but I can see an area (just beside the nose), that seems Shaded in lines.

Something that bothers me in alot of work now, including my own, is the light source. Again, I can't see any sort of contrast here...

Don't be offended, I feel pretty bad now for saying all of this, but if you listen to the criticism, you'll be a better pixel-artist eventually. Heh, Personally, I'd never try to pixel anything that large...

You don't like using lots of colours? What?? What's wrong with that?? They're just shades of one colour...

This is a pixel... You use smudging tools in photoshop on your pixels??? What? That's not how you make pixel works...

Yes it would look nicer, but anyone could just smudge colours together...

Antialiasing on a pixel???

Could you really be bothered to go and anti aliase all of this???

And once again, Anti aliasing really takes away the pixel effect. Would you anti aliase a pixel at risk of being told you didn't really do it, and just used some photoshop tool? Like you told Dark to earlier?

You miss colours when you look longer? So you unfind them? WTP?

Ok, I don't know what you consider a pixel, but anti aliasing and smudging 4 shades of colour together is not pixel work to me.

Oh, and you manage to contradict yourself by saying there are too many colours, but you then go on to say Dark should anti-aliase and smudge colours... Well anti-aliasing and smudging colours makes even more colours... Really... WTP??

Mmm

goldwolf... imho i think that if you have tht tools to make a picture look better then go for it...

does anyone care about the true spirt of pixel or just want to make amazing work...?

normally i go ahead and just keep it in pain as it is easier... but in all seriousness if i can make an image look better by useing another program then do it... all that matters is the finished piece of work
