bookrhino
Intro: No, this is not a help and advice question. And no, I'm not a newb looking for help with this skill, so don't flame me for that...or I'll just laugh to myself at your stupidity :). Anyways, herblore is a very hard skill to raise...perhaps the hardest in the game. So I'm just wondering how you like to train it. Unlike agility, which has limited options for training, herblore can be trained in numerous ways, each of which cater to the idiosyncrasies* of different people. So I'm just going to ask you a few questions... Questions: 1) What is your herby level? a. 1-37 b. 38-62 c. 63-81 d. 82+ 2) Do you use the market (in general) to raise herblore? a. I just buy items. b. I just sell my potions to people. c. I both buy items and sell my potions on the market. d. I buy items, but I use the potions to make money (i.e. barrows) e. I don't use the market at all. 3) If you use the market, do you focus on profits (reducing costs) or quick trades to level up faster? a. I focus on profits (reducing costs). More money = easier training. b. Depends on my mood. I do a little of both. c. I want the xp. The high herby level will bring me enough profit. 4) If you don't use the market, do you use the chaos druids to train with or some other method? a. Yes b. No (please specify what you do) 5) If you use the chaos druids, where do you fight them? a. Taverly dungeon b. Blood Tower outside ardougne c. Edgeville dungeon d. Agility dungeon 6) If you use the Agility dungeon, do you use theiving to access them quickly? a. Yes b. No 7) Do you have the ability to kill Salarin the Twisted (67 agility or 64 agility with potion)? a. Yes b. No 8) Do you think killing Salarin and using the herbs gives good cash? a. Yes b. No 9) BIG QUESTION: Do you, if you kill chaos druids, set a limit of what herbs you keep? a. No, I leave them as unids. b. No, I keep all herbs, but I identify them. c. Yes, I keep marrentil/tarromin/harrlander and up. d. Yes, I keep (a herb higher than harrlander) and up. You can answer as many questions as you'd like (if, of course, you qualify for them :))...I just want to see how people react to the skill. Who knows? Maybe this might help people train the skill and give them new ideas. The idea for this post was not due to RCTY's polls, but the structure was. The poll does allow for a wonderfully organized forum of data and ideas. Plus, the poll for this week is very one-sided (sorry RCTY, no offense meant). Enjoy! Results: 1) a: 3 (7.5%) b: 21 (52.5%) c: 14 (35.0%) d: 2 (5%) 2) a: 4 (10.8%) b: 5 (13.5%) c: 10 (27.0%) d: 4 (10.8%) e: 14 (37.9%) 3) a: 5 (22.7%) b: 10 (45.5%) c: 7 (31.8%) 4) a: 16 (51.6%) b: 15 (48.4%) 5) a: 6 (26.1%) b: 3 (13.0%) c: 4 (17.4%) d: 10 (43.5%) 6) a: 3 (17.6%) b: 14 (82.4%) 7) a: 11 (36.7%) b: 19 (63.3%) 8) a: 7 (33.3%) b: 14 (66.6%) 9) a: 4 (13.8%) b: 5 (17.2%) c: 4 (13.8%) d: 16 (55.2%) *Yes, I looked up the spelling of idiosyncrasies. This word does mean that I think we're all wierd, but I'll deny it if you sue me for defamation of character (and this part of the footnote will mysteriously disappear). And yes, I have a wierd sense of humor.

I don't like buying and selling things so I tend to stick to the Agility Dungeon and when I plan ahead by making Mind and Air Runes I generally kill Salarin, but for some odd reason, my luck has been off and I didn't get a single key in over 20 kills of Salarin :( Nice little questionnaire you've got here! Bellatrix
ok, 1. c (77 atm) 2. I think c (i buy limps and wines of zammy, and sometimes red eggs - but i never-ever buy herbs), and I sell most of my potions for profit. 3. b 4. In lower levels i killed chaos druids, now i dont do it anymore. Im killing aberrant spectures to get both herbs and herb seeds to plant (with garden pie, i can plant up to lantadyme). Most of my herbs im getting from farming. 5. when I killed the chaos druids, I used mainly the agility dungeon. I first killed chaos druid warriors to get some 2nd inds, then moved to the lv13 druids to get more herbs and wf vials. 6. b - skill is far from getting so high. 7. a - yes 8. nope - its slow comparing to the aberrant spectures, and the cost is quite high (runes). 9. herb limit (when killing both chaos druids or aberrant spectures) I identify everything, but takes only ranarr and higher, unless im low on health (happens a lot with the spectures), then I take everything to get a full inventory (if i get spare items, Ill drop the guams, then marentiles, etc). RegularCinderella
1) What is your herby level? b. 38-62 54 at the moment, though when I looked, I'm so close to 55, I wonder why I'm not. 2) Do you use the market (in general) to raise herblore? e. I don't use the market at all. I very rarely use the market. I'm much to cheap to buy things I can get myself. I've got more potions than I could ever use, but I don't have a good enough grasp on prices to bother with selling them. Every once in a while, I'll sell off a few prayer potions, but, like I said, it's rare. 3) If you use the market, do you focus on profits (reducing costs) or quick trades to level up faster? N/A 4) If you don't use the market, do you use the chaos druids to train with or some other method? b. No (please specify what you do) For herbs, I farm. Unlike most players, I don't really mind farming, and I can grow herbs up to snapdragon, which I can't even use yet. I don't buy the seeds, either. I pickpocket them or get them as drops. For second ingredients, I gather what I need. Sometimes I'll go on gathering "trips," but mostly, I just do it gradually. If I see a unicorn, I kill it. If I see red spider eggs, I pick them up. It's worked for me so far. 5) If you use the chaos druids, where do you fight them? b. Blood Tower outside ardougne On the rare occasions I do fight chaos druids, I use the tower. 6) If you use the Agility dungeon, do you use theiving to access them quickly? N/A 7) Do you have the ability to kill Salarin the Twisted (67 agility or 64 agility with potion)? b. No 8) Do you think killing Salarin and using the herbs gives good cash? N/A 9) BIG QUESTION: Do you, if you kill chaos druids, set a limit of what herbs you keep? c. Yes, I keep harrlander and up. I 've just started making myself leave the lower level herbs. It's hard for a miser such as myself, but I've got 100's of each in the bank, and I'm not even using them anymore. For now, I'm keeping harrlander, but if a better drop comes along (by anything, not just chaos druids,) it's the first thing I'll drop Excellent poll here. It's very interesting to find out how other people train. =D>
