Last summer, I had a level 30 character, and a lot of free time on my hands. I got a membership account for two months, just while I had no schoolwork. It was fun, I did a few quests, mostly played Castlewars, and dressed up in funny outfits.

 

 

 

I had a cat (actually, I got four during my gameplay), I enjoyed members fishing, and I met nice players.

 

 

 

But... I've had the chance to become a member again, and I'm not taking it.

 

 

 

This isn't a rant, this isn't a P2P stinks post, this isn't a F2P is better post. This is my reason why I'm not going back to members. All of my friends went to members, and they say I just don't want to spend money to be a member. That isn't true, I spent money then, it's worth the $5 each month in my opinion, and I'm not dirt-poor, I could buy a membership for a long while.

 

 

 

Now, I am a computer addict. I spend too much time on it for my own good. Only about half of that time is actually spent on runescape. Most of my real life friends spend all of their computer time on runescape and then brag about their high level character with tons of gp, but that isn't for me.

 

 

 

So, onto why I prefer F2P.

 

 

 

I found that to do anything in P2P, to not get laughed at by other P2Pers, to not look like a noob, I had to spend a lot of time and effort on getting fantastic clothing, doing quests, and staying out of the way, apart from Castlewars.

 

 

 

Everybody was a higher level than me, and nobody was willing to help me find places or do anything. I quickly figured out I had to struggle to survive and learn the P2P game. There was so much more to the P2P game than the F2P that I felt overwhelmed. If I wasn't playing Castlewars, I was in the F2P worlds, not showing off anything, but just hanging out. The F2P crowd accepted me, a low level 33 or whatever I was then, and I enjoyed it. I still preferred members fishing, but I didn't like the "elite" players that came with it.

 

 

 

Slowly, I found the only good things I enjoyed in the entire P2P game were the fishing, and Castlewars.

 

 

 

To get anywhere with members skills, it took me twice as long, and I began spending a lot more time on runescape than the other things I had once enjoyed online. P2P took too long for my liking, and while it was interesting, I quickly grew tired of it and wasn't that sad to go back to F2P.

 

 

 

I'm now nearly level 60, and I could go back at anytime. But I don't want to spend any more time on runescape than I already do, and the less I play, I have more time to do other things.

 

 

 

So, if I do go back to members, it will be when I'm level 80 or more, bored with F2P, and when every one of my friends is begging me to join them. :D (A few already are)

 

 

 

So, summed up, I like RuneScape, I just don't like spending twice as long to level up fancy skills than level up normal F2P skills.

 

 

 

I'm the only one of my friends that doesn't want a RS membership.

 

 

 

Why does it seem like such a bad thing to them?

 

 

 

Flames would not be preferred, I know that a lot of people prefer P2P, and I know that you can level some skills really quickly. It's just my personal taste, and if you can't deal with that, too bad. :

I am a level 98 member, and I had the exact same situation you had a while back. I found that members skills (with the exception of fletching, very quick) were VERY hard to level up in. I stuck with it, and I got to see the rewards. However, if you don't want to stick with it, and train "boring ole' f2p" skills, that's fine. Please think about rejoing p2p when you reach combat 80 or so...

i've never been a member, and i'm at 81 combat. i have friends that want me to get members, but i really wanna get 1000 total first. have fun whatever path you chose.

I didn't start up being a member until December 2004 or so. By then I was around level 50 and had completed just about everything there was possible to do in F2P (All Quests, "Decent" Stats) and I decided to move onto Members.

 

 

 

Being a member is great because there is so many new things. The whole new world which is roughly three times the size of the F2P world was so vast that you could do just about anything. Yeah it started out rough and all but I eventually got used to it and learned all there was to know about the Member world.

 

 

 

I would say "You'll get bored of F2P life soon enough" but I realized that there are many high leveled F2P-Only players out there. Their "victories" (i.e. Getting 100+ Combat, 99 in a skill) are far more illustrious because their training opportunities are very narrow. Good luck as an F2P and maybe when you gain a few levels you'll gain more respect in the Members community :wink: .

The only reason I am a member is because Jagex only accept that payment. :P

F2P accomplishments just have a little more spice to them. Lol, yeah I'm corny :wall: .

i had a lvl 85 member account and just before summer started i cancelled my membership because i knew i was spending way too much time on this game. I wanted to spend more time with friends, but during the school year most people cant hang out besides on weekends so i didn't really mind how much i was playing. although, as of today i have a level 62 pure that i got members and while im doing the quests i need to do ive realized how much more time and how much more addicing p2p is than f2p

I will probably become P2P because I am bored of F2P and have accomplished quite a bit as a pure F2P player. My friends want me to join, and I want some added excitement. I hope to see you as a member when I am. I am the kind of person who is usually willing to help. :)

I think F2P is for those players who like to do things the tough way ^_^

I really like being f2p but all my friends who play rs keep baggin me up about my total level and they dont seem to get the fact that they have more skills to level up in :)

 

Personally i dont want to spend $9 a month on a computer game but i still like f2p because it seems that everyone is much friendlier

I joined members when they still cared for low lvl new members. I still help the poor and\or low lvls when i'm in a good mood.

im becoming a member soon cause all my f2p skills are highish- i want to have a change and do fresh skills that dont take ages to lvl, also there seems so much more to do

I've had two members-accounts, that I played for quite awhile, but I would always get hassled for my low level.

 

 

 

I enjoy F2P because people are alot nicer than P2P, not all, but quite a few.

I am so feeling the same vibe. I was a member for 2 months last year at some point. RS started to take control of my time, so I sold everything and went to f2p, slowly I became bored, didn't play for 6 months and thought that was that. Juneish this year I started playing again, picked up a membership again for one month. Again the addictive nature of the beast rose, I decided I had to jump out of members again. So that I did.

 

 

 

I'm level 80 something and I actually am prefering F2P at the moment. I can focus on skills I want to level up, everything takes longer here, i.e. no rings of forging, no pouches, rune weapons etc. But on the same token its more simple.

 

 

 

Rares are out of my pricerange, but I am complemented on my zammy armour. Even though there are a large number of beggers, there are also a large number who are truely thankful for the mith 2h that I can make and give out. I am not dwarfed by the full dragon, phat wearing powerhouses of P2P, I can just meander along.

 

 

 

P2P is very fun, I am not condeming it, but the simplicity of F2P has alot going for it. The gratitude newer players can give you is also quite nice. Well thats my addition.

yah i always think of becoming a member but now i set a goal for myself 700 total i am 64 combat now and when i get 700 total i am gonna take a week break then get members. but yah it does consume your time that is why i am not getting members yet.

I think you're a real inspiration to all us F2pers. I only started RS a few months ago and im not allowed to get members. its really nice to know that some people care about the F2P world and will come back and join us over members :D

I prefer the f2p comunity, the main reasons I became P2P were:

 

 

 

1) my dad got fed up with me asking...(2 years of asking :P)

 

 

 

2) more items

 

 

 

3) no bots!

 

 

 

4) more skills

 

 

 

5) more map

High leveled P2P don't respect you... That's the big problem of P2P.

It seemed to me that there were way more beggers in f2p. I only stayed in f2p for like a month after i started account, then i moved to p2p. Yeah you get some harrasment from the players for being a low level but don't let it get to you. The best way to deal with it is with defiance.

 

 

 

The only time I usually get irritated with lower level players is in pest control. I think they should raise it from a 40 combat to a 70. (also people who don't shut gates should be banned)

Wow, a lot of posts on this. Thought I'd get a lot of flaming, but I guess not. :shock: Most of my friends that have gone to P2P and enjoy it are the ones that like to show off, and would probably never help a new player, by the way.

 

 

 

I guess the F2P atmosphere is more of a family-type atmosphere with the different ages and levels, and the Report Abuse button is your best friend, apart from your good game friends.

 

 

 

The P2P atmosphere is definitely more of a competitive atmosphere where if you aren't up with the higher levels, you're gonna get flamed. Not to mention player mods are stalking you at every turn... #-o

So, you're going to F2P because there you'll be treated as an intelligent higher level, rather than stake your claim and play for the experience of becomig accustomed to P2P?

I have to agree with you on this. I'm a lvl 92, and was a member, but not anymore. Many members go around showing off their stuff, and bragging about their levels, which gets really annoying.

I know how you feel man :) I've never been a member before, and I might say I've been pretty annoyed by those members who use the F2P world whenever they can, in the most expensive armour they can find. However, I have now grown bored with F2P, and decided to go P2P, because there isn't much to do anymore. I've done all quests, risen most of my skills to the point where being P2P is almost compulsory to gain any more levels. When I get back from my vacation, I'm going member, and I'm looking forward to it :thumbsup:
