Is Karamja Island Pier the Twilight Zone?

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone else may have noticed this but for such a small area the main pier where you can fish on Karamja Island (the free-play section of the island) doesn't half seen to have alot of random events happening.

In maybe the space of half an hour there's literally a dozen or more random events ranging from river trolls, large fish, whirlpools to mysterious old men and evil bob.

There must be some sort of explanation for it as we're talking of a really small pixilated area of the game as a whole which seems to be the biggest hotspot for random events occuring with unnerving frequency.

I've seen a lot as well at the fishing spots in Catherby (in members' worlds). Maybe it's something about fishing?

I'll have to hang out at a few of the other fishing spots to test that theory out but the fishing spots between Al Kharid and Lumbridge, and in Al Kharid don't really seem to have that many random events, certainly not as many as the ones in Catherby as you mentioned and in Karamja

its mainly because there like 12 randoums at a time and like 50 people and probaly about half them are bots

Indee, the more people the more randoms. Randoms are a anti-cheating system and with so many people fishing the random system would be working over-time. But then again I got 2 frogs in 20 mins when i was at edgville yews...alone. :P

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Jagex knows that these are hot spots for fishing, and that alot of bots would be going there, so why not throw in a few extra randoms for everybody. It's just as bad as the yews beside catherby. It's as speedofsound said, randoms are jagex's anti-macroer system.

I don't think there are fewer randoms there. I have seen alot of people getting randoms at the pier on karamja while fishing.

A lot of players in a small area, which if it doesn't attract randoms, certainly means more will be seen.

Saw one level 3 there (default outfit) with level 75 fishing and no other ranked stats... fishing pure, or pure autoer?

I have noticed that too. But i am not complaining because that is were i fish and got many gems for it.

Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.

Lets see, what is the only place to get lobsters and swordfish in f2p: Karamja Pier.

What is the highest priced fish you can fish in f2p: lobsters and swordfish.

What do bots try to do with fishing: try and catch the highest priced fish.

What are random's jobs: try to disrupt auto bots.

Time to plot this out:

Randoms-->Bots-->high price fish-->lobsters and swordfish-->Karamja Pier.

Any questions?

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

It's not the specific area, so much as the many people there. Their actions and their numbers alone is enough to gather some randoms. I thought this would be logical.

Live, love, eat!

There are a lot more people there than it looks. At peak times, there are maybe 12-20 people per spot. Having so many people to calculate randoms, there is going to be a lot of them. But, random's are RANDOM. I was in the Dwarven mine, and there were 3 M.O.M. in 15 minutes, 2 for me. in addition to that, there were only 3 people there. It's just the way it is.

wow.... :ohnoes: that was freaky! most i've ever seen is two frog randoms at a time, maybe three

on-topic: another place with a lot of randoms is the willow trees near draynor bank. if you hang in there for a while, you'll see a lot of autoers, froggie events, whirlpools (there's a bait/fishing rod thingy nearby), and m.o.m's.

Retired from runescape. I will be on every now and then though. :)

It's a mix of a lot of people and a high frequency of bots.

The population there is about equal to the population of an average world in the fishing guild... so what makes the karamja pier any different?

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

Okay, from how I see it, here's what's going on:

1.) Tons of people (and macros) flock to Karamja Pier...

2.) They start fishing and talking a lot...

3.) Because the density is so high, and the server can't understand a lot of people there for a long period, anti-macro npcs are deployed...

4.) Some bots die, others live... Players get bugged during this time if they don't know how to break sequence...

5.) Head back to Falador or do something else and bank/use your fresh fish...

6.) Repeat all steps...

Fair enough?
