Miami Vice - nuf said.

The Shawshank Redemption is absolutely --under--rated.. No commercial bull*, no stupid characters, just makes you appreciate your freedom you take for granted. This movie has each and every right to claim the #2 spot on imdb.com's top 250 movies of all time. =D>

 

 

 

I don't really see how it is under-rated then..But that could be me of course. Sure, it didn't have much succes when it orignally came out in '94, but it got what it deserved when it was later released on VHS and DVD.

SoaP would have to be one of the most over-rated / hyped movies to date.

 

 

 

 

 

And on a side note, I believe that Sin City was underrated. I remember a lot of people giving it flack due to there being "no plot" even when you sit down and explain that they are running parallel (exactly like in LOTR) :uhh: And there was also the slight knowledge of the comics to understand some things, but nothing critical.

I dont really know what to say.Pulp Fiction is one of the greatest films created,its just we have so much CGI and special effects that people today cant appreciate a good film when they see one.There is a reason that everyone talks about Pulp Fiction, and thats because its a good film.Sin City was amazing as well,the way that it was portrayed,the stories that intertwine.Over rated films include pretty much all films at the box office nowadays.Barely any recent releases have met the bill of being amazing films.The best new films I have seen in a while would include Silent Hill and Hostel,purely because they make you think, although Silent Hills weak ending made me throw things at the ushers.They didnt like it and I got thrown out :(But honestly,films like "Snakes on a Plane" make Stanley Kubrick roll over in his grave.

I cant believe someone said Apocalypse Now and the Godfather series is over-rated?! I tihnk someone just doesnt like Francis Ford Coppolla films.

 

I found Full Metal Jacket to be over-rated, it was some of the worst acting(with the exception of Ermey). Gili is the absoulute worse movie ever made. Waiting, 40 Year old virgin, Lord of War, are all good movies that were underrated aswell as Accepted.

 

The LOTR movies were ok, I hated the last one because of how long it was. After a painstaking 2 1/2 hours of talk and 1/2hour of action we get to see a 45min hugging seen of all the characters. I can see the fat sweaty director(cant remember his name) off camera motiong "stretch! streeeeeettttttcccccccchhhhhhhhh!!!!"

I agree with almost everything you said, so everything I quoted. I'd like to add that I do not find the Harry Potter films, succesful as they may be, overrated. They're exactely the kind of movies I would have loved when I was younger, and even now they're... guilty pleasures.

 

I do find the Godfather series a tad bit overrated. They're good, absolutley, but they're widely considered to be the best movies ever. And I disagree there. I find Shawnshank, the first Matrix, Citizen Kane, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the Usual Suspects, the Lotr films and a bunch of others a lot better. And in the comedy genre no movie has ever outclassed the Holy Grail. Brittish humour is miles ahead of all other humour. I'm very happy Canvas, a Belgian TV post, broadcasts an episode of one of the best Brittish series every evening these days; Blackadder.

 

I suppose I'm being unrealistic now when I say they ought to make a movie about it? I would really look forward to it then.

Yea, but when you have an 'opinion' it can still be so far from the real world that it is just plain wrong. And you're just plain wrong. IMDB is the biggest online movie database, so I guess it's quite representative. And you see this on a lot of websites and critics reviews as well. Nobody rated Dungeons and Dragons high, so how the hell can it be overrated? Everybody thought it was crap. Nobody underrated The Usual Suspects, it's generally seen as one of the best movies ever. So how can it be underrated? It's closer to overrated than it is to underrated.
