Christian Music anyone?

Featured Replies

Well since its so obvious I guess you don't need to say anything more on the matter, right?

I'm not so sure, given your talent for not seeing the obvious :)

You might be right, because I have no idea what you are talking about.

I doubt gospel music is that popular in america but christian music is for sure.

Sure gospel music is popular, though not restricted to, gospel is stereotypically black christian music

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_gospel

as you can see, Gospel is a sub genre of christian music.

Amen

I know someone in a Christian band called Concordia. It's just a small, local thing but they make nice music.

Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!

there was a Christian rock gospel choir (MAN thats just a mess of random words i swear) at my uni last year, and they were possibly the worst noise ive ever heard in my entire life.

Check out RadioU.com its the website of a radio station that plays

christian music. And I don't mean the boring old people

christian music. But like Rock,Rap,Techno. They primarily

play Rock type stuff but they have a special hour during

the week were they play techno, and Rap/Hip Hop.

Oh and they also have a Heavy metal hour in the weekend

for just heavy metal. but like they play that stuff

othertimes too. Basically you can call in and request

what you want to listen to. Its a really awsome radio station.

You can listen to it online. They also have TVU which is

Christian Music videos. You can also view that on their website.

I suguest checking it out. You'll See ALOT of bands on the site.

Also Some of my personal favorites (which are Rock)are...

Flyleaf

Demon Hunter

East West

Project 86

and so on...

lol.

btw there is Christian Artists and Artists who are Christians.

They don't nessearily Label themselves as Christian artists but they are

christians who write about what means alot to them which consequently means writing about God. They have it on their heart to share their message with others rather then just christians, which is what the labeled christian artists primarily do.

P.O.D are a pretty good christien band.. dont know many others.

oh, except for... slipknot :anxious: ...

I see two kind of "Christian" bands, if you will.

There's the Christian band for Christians, and the Christian band for non-Christians.

Bands like Pillar and Casting Pearls are for Christians. Sure, its possible for someone to be saved by it, but its mostly meant for Christians. They play for Christian crowds. Skillet used to be the same way, now they're kind of moving away from that (which is not bad).

Then you have bands like, I don't know, Norma Jean. They're Christians playing for non-Christians. Their lyrics aren't as cheasey as some of those kind of bands and are easy for non Christians to relate to. Sure, Christians go to see them, but I believe their main goal is to be playing for those who don't know Jesus.

But yes, there are some bands that should not be considered Christian bands. Like He Is Legend and Zao (once was a Christian band) ...

Does this make sense to anyone?

By the way: Sorry I bumped this, but I was looking for a thread like this and didn't feel like starting another one of these topics.

Christian rock just pisses me off, as does any other attempt for the Catholic church to go forcing everyone to believe what THEY want you to. Yes, I did just say that Christian rock is trying to brainwash you; sue me.

Disclaimer: I'm a Roman Catholic that just hates the church for trying to control the world. Let people believe what they want, [cabbage]heads.

Well you contributed with an intelligent response, so no harm no foul.

Who dosen't want everyone else believing what they do?

Paramaecium, a good Christian Doom Metal band.

Mortification, a very early Christian Death Metal band, very early Death-metal, very thrash-like.. Same goes for Living Sacrifice.

I'm not trying to shoot you down, but I don't believe that every Christian band is there just to brain wash you. Like I said above, the Christian bands that play for christian crowds, are just there to glorify God through their music.

Have you watched that documentary movie Jesus camp? It seems like something you'd throw up over. haha.

Of course it all depends on who you ask. Your generally not going to get an atheist saying that Christan Music is great. On the other hand I like the Christian music they play at my Youth. Its at a well known church in Sydney called Hillsong.

Give it a try, if you don't like it, then you don't like it. Simple really.

Whoops didn't realize it said without lyrics. I know music is capable of changing emotions but that dosn't mean it means anything to you. But in your case it might. What does it mean to you all of those songs without lyrics does it tell you to keep going? Never give up? Or does it just make you feel different? These are the examples I'm looking for I didn't ask for an example of a talented musician.btw nice job picking out a talented monkey.

Well, you kind of did say that.

"So if a monkey was musically talented you would listen to it? My point is if there isn't something behind the music all it is is music."

If something evokes an emotion it does mean something. Not only to me, but also to you and every other human being on this planet. Because an emotion is something. It is different to everybody (the evoked emotion of course), and it might even require some imagination or abstract thinking. These songs (the special ones) without lyrics don't give a cheap 'feeling' or an energy boost like "Keep going on, don't give up". It's about creating an atmosphere that's giving a long-lasting and intense experience. And that my friend, can't be beaten by pre-chewed lyrics that got spit out back into a song. Because in this way the music is in it's purest form, it hasn't been affected by other's opinions or experiences which are found in lyrics. Be it about God, death or love. Which of course doesn't mean that music with lyrics is bad, or less good.

Fat hobbit, you're an idiot. Not because your post, because I didn't even bother to read that after the first few lines. But because it hasn't got ANYTHING to do with this topic and will only result in a way too off topic discussion which will get this topic locked. I'm not saying Xpls and I are on-topic, but atleast it's slightly related and will most likely result in something positive.

@ the bold, I couldn't agree more. I think I heard Jeff Buckley once say something like music is a means or a medium to portray an emotion. This is something I totally believe in when writing music. Emotion is the foundation of any music (in my opinion), not necessarily what they sing about, although thought provoking lyrics always work.

Can anyone reccomend and christian metal or just generally some really inspirational and good christian music?

Try DC talk. Some of their music is cheesy, not in the overly religious sense, but more of the annoying music sense. But to start off, try 'supernatural' and 'consume me'. Their as good as christian rock goes i guess. I dont know much christian rock, i prefer gospelish music like hillsong.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
