Movin' On Out...

With the start of each new academic year, millions of young people worldwide leave the comforting nest of their parental homes to settle closer to the noble institute of learning of their choosing. In my case, that's the University of Leiden. I really doubt I'm the only person on this forum that's moving out this year, so I thought that it might be a good idea to start a topic for all of us TIF members who are striking out on their own for the first time to share tips, discuss decoration, and of course to shamelessly boast about your new roost :D

First off: The engine frame of the Ariane 5. While it's not exactly in my room, I pass by it every day on my way to the faculty.

The complex as seen from the bus stop where I get out:

My desk/bookcase/main place for my stuff:

Trespassers beware!

Notice how smart-people-books always make your shelves sag...

...and not-so-smart-people-boosk don't?

My writing desk, which is kind of cluttered at the moment due to lack of homework and no other place to put my noticeboard:

My computer desk:

Two valiant knights:

Aaaaand this is where all the magic happens :D (Sorry, forced to sit through a three hour MTV Cribs marathon recently... haven't quite recovered yet...)

That looks a bit like the Ikea Pello armchair, I've just bought one of those for my flat this year. But in white.

By god there's no way I'd want to use my computer in it though. For that I just bought this monster:

This year I'm just living with my fiancee.

Yup, I moved into residence like a week ago.

We had one hell of an orientation week.

My dorm is just a street away from the Rideau Canal.

This should be fun in the winter. ::'

Well, my boyfriend moved out into a college dorm a few weeks ago. I'll be moving out in about a year and a half. Moving from Arkansas to Arizona. I must say that your place looks alot better than his. :P His dorm building literally looks like an insane asylum.

It's a 'poang', or whatever heathen names those swedes decide to slap on it... It's only a temporary solution as we couldn't cram everything into the van in one go. I'm expecting a proper desk chair to arrive tomorrow evening.

Im moving to birmingham in 2 weeks time. I havent prepared at all  my sister has done the majority of it for me :D she brought a gigantic food parcel today to take with me when I go and lots of tolietrees (sp?). I'll be living in a flat with 5 other guys who ive never met, which should be an experience!

Lucky one of my best friends is going to the same university as me and will be living 10 minutes down the road which is awesome!

I havent seen my dorm yet but I know I'll be sharing a bathroom and a kitchen so I'll probably just have a bed a notice board and a desk.

Im sure looking forward to moving out though I'll love the independence!

I have a huge amount of stuff so I really hate moving. We have to bring one of those sack trolleys to move my monitors as each weighs as much as a small child & carrying them isn't much fun. Aside from that I have 2 computers which I take, one of which has a massive case and I also have 2 large floorstanding speakers. This year I have also got a full size mannequin which I think I won't be able to take due to its size.

Fortunately though, I'm used to it now.

I have a nice big college dorm room to myself, and it's free :P.

I moved out 3 years ago, although I spend summers with my family.

Living at home. I figure if I go to a school in my city I may as well grin and bear it and save $7000/yr.

I'm attending Brock. 2nd year comp sci. It's gonna be impossible - this is the year they try and whittle the class size from 60 to 15.

You really should consider taking it. College can get lonley somtimes and you need a good partner. For a conversation.

As I said; I'm living with my fiancee and she's a good enough partner for me :P

As for what I use it for - scaring people.

This is going to be the third year I've been away from parents.

I moved out last year into residential halls, ohhhhh how I will miss them.

Yeh ignore my soft toys, they get lonely ok? Lol, it was a small room, had everything I needed though, en suite baby!

This year me and three friends are renting out a house, we picked up the keys on the third and can't wait to move in!! My room is just behind the kitchen though... Kinda scarey if anyone has a mishap in there and burns the place down. Guess I could jump out the window though. I don't have any pictures as of yet though.[/img]

I'm not moving out till a decade past the turn of the century. My sister moved out a couple of weeks ago. I havent seen her dorm. I'm too lazy to go with my parents and drive 4 hours to see a dorm.
