September 15, 200619 yr well the news say that scientists have found a planet thats so light it can float on water! heres the artical:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060914/ap_on_sc/puffy_planet
September 15, 200619 yr Nearly 200 planets down and no intelegent life, looks like the Universe is screwed.
September 15, 200619 yr Nearly 200 planets down and no intelegent(intelligent spelling)life, looks like the Universe is screwed. Since when have we sent probes to 200 planets to see if there is intelligent life?
September 15, 200619 yr I doubt very much that we can see little more than the shape of any planet past Saturn
September 15, 200619 yr I doubt very much that we can see little more than the shape of any planet past Saturn With the scopes' we have today we can see features im sure of even pluto. --you look around the net and see pictures of galaxies, gas clouds, and other planets hundreds of light years away. Im not an astrologist, but im sure what you see that I bolded is not true.

You̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re right, the only life we would find from this distance are those still planting mushroom clouds. I wouldn't count that as intelligent.
September 15, 200619 yr Author hmm good posts guys i never knew saturn can float. and you can spy this star with regular binoculars, you just need a good telescope to see the planet
September 15, 200619 yr I always found it fascinating when a star explodes like 5 000 000 au away, you can still see it as the light is just reaching us. It's almost like seeing in the past. If the planet is gasous, there's always the possibility that it will float.

If the planet is gasous, there's always the possibility that it will float. *see Bolded That is how it works.. If you look at a star that is say, 5 light years away, that light your seeing when your out in your yard at night is 5 years old, you ARE seeing the past. Some of the photographs the hubble telescope has taken are older than you probably... Like it may have caputured a nova or something that was 10-15 light-years away, and when that light hit the telescope it was 10-15 years old. therefore what happen 10-15 years ago, is what the telescope sees 10-15 years later... if that makes any sense.
September 15, 200619 yr Aawww... it's a fluffy planet... I found that part to be cute. ^_^ I agree. Lets drag it over in our solar system so we can have nine planets again! \ With one fluffy planet!
September 15, 200619 yr Author ^suuure lets just go to a planet that a 450 lightyears away and try to attach a giant hook onto a planet made of gas thats very close to a star (its year is 4 days) and drag it back alll the way over here^ ok lets do it!!!
September 15, 200619 yr i want to come to if knives is coming even though if it is 450 light years away, we won't get anywheres close before we kick the bucket unless we go the speed of light becuase as you get closer to the speed of light even though it would still take 450 years to get there unless maybe we have some cryogenic containments. If not, we're screwed. <the49ronin> O_o methinks ard is acting mighty high and pretty -.- <Ard_Choille> I am pretty <Ard_Choille> fo shizzle
September 15, 200619 yr hmmm, a fluffy planet... sounds fun lol, this reminds me of something that was mentioned in my math book... acording to some formula there are aproxomately (sp?) 40 planets that could suuport intelligent life... i don't think it seems very accurate though... i'll go grab my math book and post this formula in a few minutes if anyone is interested. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. September 15, 200619 yr I propose we take all the planets and put them in our solar system. Sure, it may get crowded, and yea, it may take trillions of years, thus we would no longer have a sun...But hey! We need to have those planets before the terrorists get them! For Earth! The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
September 15, 200619 yr all right guys, heres that formula i was talking about: N is the number of planets in our galaxy currently supporting inteligent life in our galaxy N=T*P*E*L*I*C*A (just so you know * means times or multiplied by...) T= total number of stars in our galaxy= about 400,000,000,000 P= fractions of stars with a planetary system= 1/4 E= fractions of planetary systems with a planet that has an ecology able to sustain life= 1/2 L= fraction of planets able to sustain life on which life actually developed= 9/10 I= fraction of planets with intelligent life= 1/10 C= fraction of planets with intelligent life that could communicate outwardly= 1/3 A= ffraction of planets with communicating life which is alive now= 1/100,000,000 any of that make sense to you guys? the book says it equals 15 planets with intelligent life but when i do the math i come up with 40... what do you guys come up with? 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. Total B.S, were did the person who made that get his info from? ---there IS no info, there is nothing to base the equation off... I= fraction of planets with intelligent life= 1/10 I mean come on!, we dont even know how many planets are out there, how can someone, let alone, judge how many would have intelligent life. :shame: Stupid theorys... get to the facts. September 15, 200619 yr Nearly 200 planets down and no intelegent life, looks like the Universe is screwed. dude man. we discovered the universe afew hundred years ago. we managed to have our first man in space just alittle less than hundred years ago don't think we'll ever see any alien life during our time unless We get froze in a Freezing Chamber and then revive in a 1000 years Stunner is in the house! Make some noise please?
September 15, 200619 yr we discovered the universe afew hundred years ago. ROFL!!! Supreme, typical human arrogance!!! We didn't discover the universe, it was there all aling. People have been staring at it for hundreds of thousands of years! It has taken us that long to get a man into space, not 100 years. With the scopes' we have today we can see features im sure of even pluto. --you look around the net and see pictures of galaxies, gas clouds, and other planets hundreds of light years away. Im not an astrologist, but im sure what you see that I bolded is not true. No, its not quite true that you can't see past Saturn, Telescopes can take photo's of Pluto. However, past Pluto, they cannot see any non incandescent material. For example, they don't discover new planets just by seeing them visually, they discover them by stidying the red shift in stars and detecting the 'wobble' of stars, how much they actually move about. If you take two objects of the sae mass in space and spin them together, they will orbit about a point that is somewhere between them. However, if you change the mas of one of them so that it has a much larger mass than the other, the centre of orbit will move towards the object of larger mass, but they still orbit about each other. Scale this up a billion times, and you have the situation where a planet is orbiting a star, but as it does so, the gravitational field of the planet affects the star, making it move in a relatively small circle. By detecting the change in the Doppler Shift (I'm nt going to explain that, it would take too long - if you really want an explanation, either look it up or PM me) scientists can discover the wobble of a star, and hence discover new planets. As scientists can accurately predict the mass of a star using the absorbtion spectrum to see which elements are present in the star and in what quantities, they can relate the mass of the star to the size of the stars 'wobble' and thus determine the mass of the planet. However, I am not quite sure how they determine the density of the planet (which is what you need to know to be able to say that it can float on water), because to know it's density, you need to know it's mass, which we just worked out, but you also need to know the phyical volume that mass takes up. There, I become a bit unstuck... Any idea's anyone? How do you determine the volume of a planet you cannot see? 99/99 Fletching, 99/99 Cooking, 96/99 Strength

People have been staring at it for hundreds of thousands of years! It has taken us that long to get a man into space, not 100 years. Think. It might have been there all along but its not considered 'discovered' until we actually realize it exists. its similar to Isaac Newton's discovery of Gravity even tho its been there for a very long long long time. Stunner is in the house! Make some noise please?
September 15, 200619 yr Im not an astrologist, please don't confuse astrology with astronomy. Its an insult Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. September 15, 200619 yr Nearly 200 planets down and no intelegent life, looks like the Universe is screwed. The only exo-planets we can see are large Jupiter like planets close to the sun. Our equipment is too weak to find any Earth like planets, so from the 200 planets we found none of them would be suitable for life (since Jupiter like planets are made up of gas and not rock).
September 15, 200619 yr Nearly 200 planets down and no intelegent life, looks like the Universe is screwed. 200 planets out of about 200 billion planets. I doubt the Universe is far from screwed. We haven't even tipped the iceberg in what the Universe beholds. \ I love Extrasolar systems. Me doing staff.
