well there was all this hype about the new engine and great updates to come and whatnot, and when it finally does, its some quest with moderate exp reward and some crappy armour unlocked. I was expecting something massive, mindblowing and sevral other good adjectives beginning with m.

or maybe this was a phoney update and theyre saving the great one fo tommorow or sumat? :-k

They work on projects months in advance. This quest was written ages ago. What they were busy doing this week had nothing to do with updates this week or probably even this month. They didn't say they were upgrading the engine specifically for this update. They were upgrading it for future updates that will come much later most likely. So as for your question, no, I'm not really disappointed. New prayer armor \

So what if it's a small quest, it follows a storyline, and thats a lot better than a huge quest that makes no sense.

 

Plus, new engine means they are able to handle loads diffrently and are able to do new things as well, they just have to work though it.

I know how you can be black knight, by killing a lot of white knights, I really feel like wanted would be needed and killing 150 after your rating is not wanted.

Well the new engine took soo much time to make that maybe we were expecting or imaging things bigger than they would be. I was excited about farming and construction going out, and when they did come out, it didn't seem so great all of a sudden. I think we all do that, start imagining things bigger and better than they are.

I've seen Blaziken say he wants to join black knights a few times but in a way agree it would be cool by having a similar thing to the White Knights to get their armour by killing black knights...just a lil better :P

 

I think some 'lower level' quests were needed in a way though...not everything can be great and high levelled leaving out the lower levels

People always find a reason to complain about something. They could at least limit the complaining to functionality problems instead of complaining about the things chosen for updates or the rewards. Not being able to bank on Lunar Island without that seal, now that's a valid complaint since it makes no sense after that quest's story. Just complaining about not liking an update in general is lame. If you don't like it don't do it.

 

 

 

I didn't want to do anything related to the vampire update a couple weeks back but I didn't complain. I just kept doing other stuff I had planned. Did you ever think that maybe having an update every week is the reason people are so unhappy with the quality most of the time. If Jagex could have a chance to breath and not release something new each week I'm sure we would see a marked improvement on what they create. This isn't to say I haven't liked plenty of updates. I just think they would be better all around if there weren't so many whiners that complained everytime an update wasn't useful to every single person playing RS.

deangut was rite, we get low lvl updates that are aimed at lvl 60ish people and then the people that are somewhat in that area complain and the high lvls just sit back and chew on it.

For one we dont know how complicated it is to make an entirely new area, let alone script a quest into it.

 

 

 

Back in classic, there was a 6 month gap inbetween updates (the mage arena then a 6 month break if i remember)

 

 

 

I feel happy getting an update once a month, plus i loved this update, the quest was awsome in my eyes. Fun quest, new story line, new updated armor? what more could you ask for?

 

 

 

They actually got me excited for the next part of the wanted! series.

Five dollars (or converted to your own currency) is an extremely cheap price for what we get and the simple fact is you're getting far more than you paid for.

 

 

 

An attitude like that is why Jagex can never please people. There will always be someone who will complain because they deserve a certain type of update because they pay. I'm really surprised Jagex even bothers anymore or even tries to make updates that we (the non-whiners at least) would even want.

not only that but, where the hell did any1 get the idea jagex had hundreds of people on the design team? its not a [bleep]ing factory, its a place of computer programming... when you learn how to program in visual basic(easiest computer programming language ever, literally.) you come talk to use about how hard it would be to make a decent calculator and maybe, you can complain.

 

 

 

 

 

these threads come up once a week, on probably ever runescape fansite id assume, and who is complaining? a 1169 total lvl player, with almost 6million experience. do you actually see me complain about updates? if i say anything about and update thats even negative its like, well it shouldnt have taken them this long for this or that.

Back in my day we were lucky to get ONE update a month! We weren't told when an update was coming, it just happened. All you young whipper snappers takes things for granted, You're lucky to get an update every week (Or close to).

while they may have 100+ employees now it wasnt always that way, and about half of that is customer support, so you and the other 100k people who like nothing more than to complain have someone to complain to, if you even understood the utterly complex setup jagex has for runescape you wouldnt be so quick to cry that you didnt get a HUGE update every week.

 

 

 

for arguments sake ill pretend youre not completely brain dead. what jagex did was created a custom compiler in java so that andrew could design his own language to suit him best. although this makes updating easier it also complicates it slightly, it requires the new code not only to work with all the other coding, but also to compile in his custom compiler(runescript) and have it not effect it in any way so that it will not run on his java compiler. so this hyped up new engine as you put it is not a simple thing, the staff completely re-wrote the compiler to make FUTURE updates possible.

 

 

 

and as for wanting bigger and better updates take a look at what you already have, i mean a decent amount of people didnt even think it was possible to have shading in java but just take a look at all the transparent opjects in the game. they have pushed themselves farther than ANY company in the world in terms of java. they took the code to the limits and pushed through, its incredible what they have done and you have no right to complain that you arent getting a game-changing update EVERY week.

Jagex probably only has about 20 people working updates. A huge majority of the staff is with customer support to answer the queries people send in.

 

 

 

If you go to their company site you can see a list of employees. It's also on the RuneScape Homepage somewhere but you will see there really isn't that many people working on new content.
