I just came back after a 6 week layoff (due to no t'internet) and have done the eyes of glouphrie quest now is it just me or is that an homage to the old british tv show 'the adventure game'. I mean even down to the aspidistra. I hope I'm not going mental cos I loved that show so somebody tell me I'm not dreaming

ozwald
Wow I never though a simple ask if anyone else has spotted this would get me flamed but its ok anyway I googled it and yes it is from the adventure game and if you never saw it you missed out because watching dumb celebs standing like stunned ducklings wondering what the hell they were supposed to do was great. I guess next time I should spend hours composing prose worthy of Chaucer to ask something that I can do in a few lines just to lighten up all your worthless little lives. Intriguing
I was actually under the impression that older people playing the game added a little bit of extra maturity, but I guess I was wrong. '. . .just to lighten up all your worthless little lives.' Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Cool.

Intriguing
Eh, good point. Anyway, never even heard of the show, sorry, so I can't really contribute. EDIT : Perhaps, for the benefit of the unknowledgeable, you could just give us a quick description of what the adventure game is? Cool.
QueenValerie
Lighten up people and just stay on topic please. Btw : I never heard of the show.
jiggeryqua
I remember the show - and yes, when I saw the aspidistra, it floated through my mind for a moment. The whole business with the coloured tokens and the maths problems, and the design of the machinery, seemed to fit with that theme too. Just a shame we didn't get a cut scene with Keith Chegwin being vapourised by the end game...
jiggeryqua
http://www.ukgameshows.com/page/index.php/The_Adventure_Game For those of you who are interested enough to click a link, but not sufficiently interested to google it yourselves... I'd forgotten that the currency in the game was, effectively, identical to the 'currency' in the quest.

cardovilian
Exactly like yourself, I've been away for a while and did that quest yesterday. Spotted exactly the same thing. As soon as I 'examined' the aspidistra and it said 'dronga, dronga', I knew what the machine was all about. A friend of mine is now going to do the quest, just so he can see the aspidistra - he's of the same age group as us. I didn't post about it cos I thought it might be old news - but obviously not. Oh, I'm 38 for anyone who cares! Why is 'common sense' so named, when there is so little of it about?Welcome to puberty, we've been expecting you. ozwald
it's good to see that jagex still drops in the odd chesnut for us older players, perhaps next it will be Withnail & I. Everyone keep your eyes peeled for a reference to drugged onions. :D

I mean really, what 13 year old would name their tip.it account OZWALD? No kidding? Actually I picked up the moniker when i was 12. It's a referance to Oswald Mosley (google it if you don't know who he was) and I got given it because I always wore black shirts to school.
