September 29, 200619 yr These articles thoroughly disgusted me. What has this world come to? For those of you too lazy to read the article Redux Beverages has come out with an energy drink called Cocaine althought it doesn't contain cocaine. It is an energy drink that is said to contain The 8.4 fluid ounce energy booster has no actual cocaine in it, but it does contain 280 milligrams of caffeine. . The maker, Jamey Kirby, said this: He claims Cocaine is "350 percent stronger than Red Bull" but that people do not experience the "sugar crash" or jitters that he says some of the other energy drinks can produce. Yeah... Link 1 link 2 Opinions? Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
September 30, 200619 yr It's an... energy drink. I don't really see what there is to be "angry" about it.
September 30, 200619 yr Ok, I'll admit to being one of the ones too lazy atm to read the articles. However, a quick comment on something that popped into my head. Isn't Red Bull banned in several states/countries because it has a dangerously high amount of caffeine? I've had a red bull, they're nothing special imo. However, a 350% increase in caffeine surely comes with severe health risks? :-k
September 30, 200619 yr The article mentioned that esperso still has more caffine in it than this drink, so I don't think it'd be a big problem. :)
September 30, 200619 yr Isn't Red Bull banned in several states/countries because it has a dangerously high amount of caffeine? I think Red Bull only has about the same amount of caffeine as a regular cup of coffee, so it shouldn't be banned for it's caffeine content.
September 30, 200619 yr Somehow, I can't imagine me going into a bar and asking for a "double vodka and cocaine" going down to well... This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 30, 200619 yr Cocaines a hell of a drug. But really Coke does not manufactur the product, its a Vegas based company. I swear if they start to crack down on caffine im buying an Island and forming my own country...Supporters or donaters? oh I need a Vice president :) Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.

September 30, 200619 yr shanaigans on Starbucks. Like I always say if you drink fast-food coffe you shouldnt be dirnking it at all. Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.
September 30, 200619 yr Somehow, I can't imagine me going into a bar and asking for a "double vodka and cocaine" going down to well... That just depends on how dodgy the bars you go to are lol. I do understand why people are against it ( the glorification of drugs & the possible consequences of this) but you just have to remember that its just another cynical marketing strategy. Plus anyone who is stupid enough to buy real cocaine (the drug) due to being in some way influenced by this drink or any other glorification of cocaine is an idiot to begin with. Anyway the fact that this marketing ploy has us all talking about the drink merely means that its working. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
September 30, 200619 yr Anyway the fact that this marketing ploy has us all talking about the drink merely means that its working. Eh, not necessarily. When it comes to marketing, the saying "bad press is good press" doesn't really apply. However, coincidentally they are briefly talking about the drink on Glenn Beck (CNN Headline News). Some American agency protesting the drink claims that an espresso has 3X less caffeine than this drink. :-k
September 30, 200619 yr I can't wait until they trademark the name and then try to sue some South-American drug czars for copyright infringement :-k I know the price. I pay it gladly.
September 30, 200619 yr They make a valid point about it promoting drug use/cocaine as being "cool" But I don't think people are going to be like, "well I drink cocaine, might as well snort/shoot up cocaine" As for the 350% more caffeine than Red Bull I'm pretty sure that'll have some consequences. I mean people are addicted to caffeine. I think about my parents sometimes, they wake up and make a pot of coffee straight away. My dad does it before he lights up his morning cigarette! :D
September 30, 200619 yr Umm...It's a [developmentally delayed]ed marketing strategy, and people like you give them more and more publicity. Fact is, it tastes like CRAP and it's bad for you. People will buy it just because of it's name and the outrage it has caused. Good job, guys. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
September 30, 200619 yr Anyway the fact that this marketing ploy has us all talking about the drink merely means that its working. Eh, not necessarily. When it comes to marketing, the saying "bad press is good press" doesn't really apply. Ahh but what you are forgetting is what I like to call 'The Idiot Factor'. While I will admit in the long term ( lets just say 2 years plus) it wont be a sustainable just based on this controversy however, in the short term I think it will. Alot of idiotic rebelious teenagers are bound to consider the drink cool for a short amount of time at least, which can only help it because lets face it there are a huge number of idiotic teenagers. Plus being on CNN is millions worth of advertising for free. The only way I can really see this not being a short-term success is if it is banned or if it forced to change its name & thus mess up the company's marketing. Anyway thats my opinion but I guess we can only wait to see. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
September 30, 200619 yr lol me and my cousin call coke cocaine, but actually making a drink called that is simply wrong. Lastfm
September 30, 200619 yr For me those energy drinks really make me more social, just like beer makes people social. Red bull, one of them is good enough to make me social... i'd like to take one cocaine and see what happens.. . and on video game nights.. i'd take a couple Cocaines and go at it.. i'd drink the stuff :)
September 30, 200619 yr The article mentioned that esperso still has more caffine in it than this drink, so I don't think it'd be a big problem. :) Per volume? If so, then it's hard to tell if it's a problem or not. Normal people don't go around knocking down half a litre of espresso.
September 30, 200619 yr Like LP said, I'd drink one only if I were hanging out with friends and we planned on staying up late or something. I seriously doubt I would drink them on a regular basis. As for the name, it's just a name. I could care less about it.

My thoughts exactly. If your target audience is a bunch of teenagers, the fact the name is cocaine will hugely boost the sales, as teens will see drinking these things as an activity only a real macho would perform. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me
September 30, 200619 yr I love energy drinks. I have a Rockstar or a Monster daily, the more caffeine the better.
September 30, 200619 yr I had a friend who drank 4 Red Bulls, even though it says only drink 2 per day on the can... I still wonder how he slept, even though he claimed he slept fine... There is nothing wrong with energy drinks, I love caffeine, it keeps me awake all night if I want to play Runescape... YoUr UnDeR ArReSt AnYtHiNg YoU SaY WiLl Be MiSqUoTeD AnD UsEd AgAiNsT YoU
September 30, 200619 yr I have a mate at school who drunk about 2 cans and 1 bottle of Red Bull and he said his chest was hurting a bit, heart palpitations is one of the effects of too much caffeine. Eh, hes alright now though. I'm looking at a can of Red Bull i had before work today, and it contains 80mg of caffeine. Now, if I've added this up right, 350% more caffeine is only about 280mg of caffeine. Compare that to the average cup of instant coffee that has about 65-100mg of caffeine in it which means in 1 cup of "Cocaine" your drinking the same amount of caffeine you would get from a bit under 3 cups of instant coffee. So, i dont quite know why i went on that little rant above, but i did. Anyway, its all just a marketing ploy and it seems to be working.
