knives669
I know you don't want to take him to court, but $1800 is better than nothing. It really really sucks how the situation has turned out. Just proves that our insurance policies and laws concerning them are flawed. Not only have you gone through so much, but you're going to have more of a headache should you take the guy to court. You deserve a brand new car. He hit you. #-o
Faux
I'm not going to be the "Typical American" and sue everyone just because something bad happened...Even though I probably would be justified more than most, like Mr. "McDonalds hot coffee burned my mouth, gimme' a million.", lol. Bad example. That lawsuit is actually reasonable. :) :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
kido14
Well told =). This is what I can't stand about driving. You could be the most unsafe driver in the world and still maybe not get in an accident. Or you can be the safest driver in the world and still get in an accident. Thats the main reason I dislike driving so much. But yea I can completely relate to you. I'm the exact same way as you as far as driving goes.. I try to be careful, and my friends get mad at me sometimes too for not going insanely fast like they dol Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/Aaronm14/MY FAVORITE BAND:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=64310717And the bible is the big book of lies, call me a racist if you must. moose585
That must suck.. what a daft old man. That's the worst part of it, is that my whole family has to pay more money for insurance because some guy hit ME. And ^^ that above, that i agree would have to be the worst part. You really have no say in it :( hows the weather up there. where the rich people live. currently, in the poor area its -1.
Chris
Meh, careful driving is boring. I prefer my style... Agressive driving. People stop for me, people avoid me and people don't like me (on the road). Just think though, if you'd been going over the limit like 30 - 40, you wouldn't have gotten crashed into. =D> Here's a small portion of "Chris' school of driving". Speed limits and your limits. 20MPH (32.19KM/H) zone - Generally around schools and small housing areas. Your speed: 30+MPH (48.28+KM/H), if the kids are stupid enough to jump out, they're stupid enough to be hit. It won't kill them, just hurt really bad. Then they won't jump out in front of cars anymore then, will they? 30MPH (48.28KM/H) zone - Normal everyday speed limit for towns/cities. Your speed: 40MPH (64.37KM/H), 30 just doesn't seem fast enough. Not like an adult's going to run out in front of you, because they already got hit by a car when they were kids. 40MPH (64.37KM/H) zone - Non residential areas, usually industrial estates where roads aren't crossed. Your speed: 50+MPH (80.47+KM/H), let loose the beast. Like anyone is going to be crossing anyway... Cyclists? Ignore them... 50MPH (80.47KM/H) zone - Never figured this one out, probably used to be a 60 but they though it was safer because some idiot got killed. Your speed: 70MPH~ (112.7KM/H~), Like I said probably was a 60MPH (96.56KM/H) zone at some point. 60MPH (96.56KM/H) - National non-motorway speed limit. Your speed: Depends on the road, very well built and maintained? 70 - 90MPH (112.7KM/H - 144.8KM/H), country road where the local council decided they couldn't be bothered figuring out a speed limit? 60MPH (96.56KM/H) MAX. 70MPH (112.7KM/H) - National motorway speed limit. Your speed: 90+MPH (144.8+KM/H), they built them for high usage and high speed anyway? So what's the point in going slow? If you do decide to use the speed limit on a motorway, don't use the fast lane and think you're going fast. Edited for KM/H aswell, forgot not everyone uses stoneage methods of measuring speed. #-o Notoriously Trollish.
cadburys_egg
Chris drives like my brother, only slower. ;)
____
Chris drives like me, but slower :P My speed limit is at least 50% over the limit. (mph in brackets next to km/h) 10km/h (6.21) - Car Parks (and some residential estates) Jokes on them, no one sticks to this law. If you aren't going 20 (12.42), you're going too slow. 20km/h (12.42) - Most Residential Estates and University roadways See above. Most people are cruising at 25-30 (15.5-18.6) and occasionally up to 40 (24.85) (depends on traffic) 40km/h (24.85) - School Zone (and main-roads in University road-ways) These sections of roads are usually 60 (37.3) outside the designated "school times" anways. To hell with the little buggers, go the normal speed limit. If they jump out in front of you - blame the school and parents for failing to educate the kid in looking both ways before crossing the street. "Hey, how do you expect me to stop if this little brat stepped int othe road when I was only two car lengths away? It's not like a car this size is invisible" :uhh: 50km/h (31) - Residential and Industrial roads 70 (43.5) without breaking a sweat. Up to 80 (49.7) if it's out in the sticks a bit. No one cares. 60km/h (37.3) - Residential and Industrial main roads See above. But NEVER go over 60 (37.3) through a school zone, if you get caugh they'll have your [wagon]. At least if you're going 60 (37.3) you can play dumb to the time, specially if there are no kids in uniform around. 70km/h (43.5) - Built-Up main roads up to 90 (55.9) if you can handle it. 80km/h (49.7) - Service Roads & most rural roads 100+ (62.1+) unless it's not well maintained. And watch the bends, the advisory speed limits are for the legal limit, so get down to 10+ (6.21+) at the most. 100 & 110km/h (62.1 & 68.35) - Motorways 150+ (93.2+) or get off the road. 180+ (111.84+) if you got the room to move and the power to match it. minuit666
What with people posting all these speeds in mph and km/h, could you actually try putting the other speed in brackets so we can compare? (for a rough guide, 80km/h = 50mph) The Devil's Hour...
____
how's about no :) I'll just post the conversion figure. I'm sure simply math doesn't escape most people.... MPH to KM/Hr ~ MPH * 1.6 KM/Hr to MPH ~ KM/Hr / 1.6 (or * 0.6)

Tigra00
Chris: I'm almost positive that hitting a child going 30 MPH could very well kill them. I was hit by a car going that fast and the entire side of my car was smashed in, lifted off the ground and pushed into someone's yard. So yea...Pretty sure little Johnny would get killed. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me! Futurama
same thing happened to my girlfriends mum the other night. driving home from work, some speeding knob jockey smashed straight into the side of her car. ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã1000 claimed on insurance but their car's beyond repair... kinda winds me up because she's choosing not to sue. if he totalled the car he mustve been going pretty damn fast, plus she's got a 1 year old son and if he was in the car, a few feet one way and that couldve been it. wouldve been a different story then. So yea...Pretty sure little Johnny would get killed. :P Weak a** kids. They just don't build them like they used to. Then again, I'm basing my information from an ad campaign for speeding over here. Basic premise of it was, young girl gets hit at 40mph, she dies. Tape reverses and the car hits her again at 30mph and she lives. So in truth, little Johnny is a wuss. :P PS. My speeds are actually safe. PSS. RICK! You didn't even bother converting, if anything my "safe" speeds are about the same as yours. :P Notoriously Trollish. ____
Chris: Do remember that what i posted are my slow speeds ;) We both know we exceed what we both suggested :P Tigra: Getting hit at about 50k isn't going to kill someone unless they're hit from an akward angle AND bounce off the hood, into the wind shield over the roof and bounce off the ground a few times. Or they're a little kid and the car really does drive over them and the kid's head bounces against the undercarrige of the car a few times. In most cases they'll get hit and go off to the side somewhere, avoiding life-threatening injury... unless the hit itself killed them somehow :mamoru:

insane
Insurance companies around where I live take teenagers for everything they've got, and more. I can't stand it. If you're under 24 in Ontario, and have an accident on your record, quite a few insurance companies won't even insure you. The rest will put you at $10 000/yr. If someone my age were to drive a Mustang or something, even a v6, it's like $500/month for insurance. $6,000 a year for INSURANCE? No. Just no.
