I want to make a meal with my girlfriend. I don't want it to be anything boring like mac & cheese but I don't want it to be difficult garmet.

Post some of your favorite meals.

This is actually a pretty good meal that is cheap and easy to make.

http://www.filipinorecipe.com/meat_and_ ... _adobo.htm

Serve it on top of plain white rice, or you can make fried rice(also easy) to serve on the side and find something else that goes with the meat.

I make a variation on that recipie:

1 teaspoon of garlic powder = 1 clove btw.

1/2 teaspoon of cracked peppercorns instead of pepper

A dash of oregeno.

After that is done, seperate the meat from the liquid and add in about 1/2 cup more sugar. Let that set, then get a pan and fill the bottom with the liquid. Let it boil for a second, then drop the meat in. After the liquid evaporates out, it forces some more flavor stuff into the meat.

Really nice meal.

I approve of misplacedme's suggestion because I've been eating it since the dawn of time. Personally though, I like chicken adobo better than beef just for the taste of the skin, not to mention the pork version of it.

Oh, and like most Filipino cuisine, it's not as good if you don't eat it with rice. Meals tend to be a bit too strong without it.

edit: I don't approve of evaporating all the sauce though.

3 c. chicken (baked) (3 lb. fryer)

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 (8 oz.) container sour cream

4 oz. melted butter

1 1/2 c. crumbled Ritz crackers

1 tbsp. poppyseed

In 1 1/2 quart shallow baking dish, arrange chicken. Blend soup and sour cream; pour over chicken.

Combine butter, cracker crumbs and poppyseed, sprinkle over all. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until hot. Serves 4.

Southern fried chicken

Doughnuts.

Or, go to the Minn state fair.

Everything is better on a stick!

I used to have a link to my school's project to provide fresh water to a Kenyan Village, but the sig police changed the link to say something, which, if followed, leads to an "ahem" adult website. Let me ask you. Which do you think is worse?

Yeah it will kinda look and taste like its roasted...

Plus the sauce adds alot of flavor expecially if ur eating with rice.

That was a rollover from the first time I made it. Accidently boiled away all the liquid, and found it to be quite good :\

May be an aquired taste though cause I actually like the taste of almost burnt sugar and soy sauce.

Ooh!!

I did a lot of cooking over the summer for my family, making three course meals once a week, and a lot of them turned out really nice :D However, I warn you that I'm vegetarian and so my dishes might not appeal to you as much :x

If this is your first time doing a lot of cooking, I'd leave yourself at least three hours to do all the cooking and preparation - no matter what the preparation time on the recipe says. Things will always take longer than you expect, especially if you're just trying to work out how to do all this :D

Mock Crab Cakes with Cashew Gravy - these turned out DELICIOUSLY :D Everyone (including my meat eating parents) was extremely impressed:

Mock Crab Cakes

* 2 cups coarsely grated zucchini, unpeeled (about 1 medium)

* 1 onion, finely chopped (we grated it also)

* 1 cup Italian bread crumbs

* 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

* 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning

* 1 egg, beaten

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl (we grated the zucchini and onion into a colander so some of the liquid could drain out). The texture can be adjusted -- if it's too dry, add another egg; if too wet, add more bread crumbs (we had to add a couple extra tablespoons of crumbs).

Heat some oil in a skillet. Form mixture into patties and fry over medium heat until golden brown on both sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Makes 4 big or 6 medium cakes.

Cashew Gravy

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 cups hot water

1/2 cup cashews

2 tablespoon Braggs Liquid Aminos

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 teaspoon onion powder

2 teaspoon nutritional food yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Set aside 1 cup of hot water. Put everything else in a blendor and blend very well, about 5 minutes. Add 2nd cup of water. Pour into a pan and heat til thickened. Serve over biscuits, or mix with noodles. I also make a vegetable pot pie using this as the gravy. Delicious!.

The best idea for a SUPER EASY super elegant appetizer was goat cheese with honey. Buy some goat cheese (the dippable type) and put it in the center of a plate, and sculpt a little dip/hole in the middle of the goat cheese. Pour honey into this dip/hole, and also drizzle the honey over the rest of the cheese. Then put crackers in a circle around the goat cheese. This really looks so elegant, and is so easy to do :D

For something a bit more elegant, I had great success with popovers - cute little pastries that you bake in a muffin tin. Again, everyone loved them. However, they're a bit more difficult to make.

For a simpler entree that you really can't go wrong with, I recommend pasta with a light herb butter sauce, with some vegetables (I suggest broccoli). You can even toss in some meat if you want :x This is a classic dish and not that difficult.

If you're doing a very elegant meal, you might want to close with a more cute classic dessert, like just freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. :D

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

You can always be a comedian and get some pizza to pull this act:

"Hey, did you make this?"

"No."

"So you got it delivered?"

"No, it's not delivery, it's delicio."

I've been saving it for personal use, but I'll share to help someone get some cookie points. Ladies absolutely love big, lame, corny jokes. :P It's in their DNA.

I personally find a plate of spanish rice as a good appetizer. Then for a main course, maybe some grilled chicken breast, and maybe some Jack Daniel's Barbeque Sauce on top of it. Then maybe another appetizer could be some Cheese potatoes, you know, like cut into cubes, with alot of seasoning (any kind). And maybe for dessert some Blue Rasberry Jell-O with some vanilla Ice Cream on top. And if your old enough, bring out some Pina Coladas. Just something I've tried with my girlfriend, except we aren't old enough to have alcohol...
