Tutorial: Full Abstract Sig (Beginner)

Metroid

Recommended Posts

First you want to make a new document in photoshop. (Ctrl+N)

We'll make this one 350x125 but you can experiment different sizes if you want.

Step 2:

Well my favorite color is blue, so I'll be making a blue-based sig. You can use whatever color you want, just adjust the settings in the screenshot below:

Step 3:

Next we want to make the gradient bg, so select the gradient tool (shown in the picture above). Click (and hold) the mouse going from top to bottom across the sig.

You should now have a gradient background.

Step 4:

Now we are going to make a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N) and add some brushing. But first we'll need brushes. The ones I'll use for this tutorial can be downloaded here. But you can look around for ones you like. .com/yadvgt]Click here for a detailed tutorial on how to use brushes you've downloaded. Anyway, first press D then X on your keyboard, this will reset the colors. Now just randomly brush around (Don't drag the brushes, click once.) After a while you should have something like this:

2iqbxnm.png

Step 5:

Now we are going to make the sig look even better. Go to the layers panel. And do this:

4g3mr0h.png

Now it blends better, doesn't it?

Step 6:

Now we are going to make it look even better by adding simple effects and adding a border.

First hit Ctrl+Shift+N to make a new layer. Then select the Elliptical Marquee Tool:

2v8rgxg.png

Now make a selection on the top of the sig like so:

34nqr6r.png

Right click inside the selection and select "Fill..." And use these settings:

4biqgp0.png

Now deselect. (Click anywhere on the sig)

Step 7:

Now we are going to add a border, text, and some optional finishing effects.

Hit Ctrl+Shift+N (Again, this will make a new layer) Then hit D. Now use the Rectangular Marquee tool (see step 6 to find where it is) and select the entire sig. Now right click and select "Stroke" And use these options:

2m7hvme.png

Now go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Brightness/Contrast... And make the brightness +20, and the contrast -20.

Now all you need to do is add text. Download a font and add it to your font directory, I won't explain how to do this, so find a tutorial on google on how to add fonts to your computer if you don't know. Once you have a font use the text tool and add any text you want.

Final Result!

Now we're done. Hopefully you've added some more effects of your own, maybe stars etc. And some text. Here is my end result with added text, and some extra brushing.

NOTE: This is a beginner tutorial, for someone who is making one of their first sigs mainly.

I've tried to explain everything clearly in this tutorial so ANYONE can make this kind of sig.

Please post your results! :)

To be blunt, the signature is only going to be as good as the person makes it.

A beginner isn't going to know how/where to brush to be effective.

The white semi-circle at the top of the signature, I think, would look better if feathered/gradiented (white to trans).

Still a simple tutorial if you know what you're doing. :)

I'm pretty sure that if you buy the Educational version, it's only $200-300, andufushtebronze.

Nice tutorial, Metroid :D I understand why Cadburys thinks the semi-circle should be feathered/gradiented, but I actually really like it how it is. Not sure why, but I do :P Maybe I'll try it out later and post my results, but I g2g in a minute :P

Nice and sparkley

Well, my first attempt at any sort of signature making. First time using photoshop too, so it took me a little while.

Any suggestions would be nice. I know it looks pretty bad, and the font/color is way off.

1.) It's a set of brushes, I've got'em, can't remember where I got'em from though.

2.) The color in the Edit > Stroke is what does that color. Just change that (under the [usually 1px] text is the color) and your good. :D

I'll try one now, lets see how it comes out. O:)

What version of Photoshop is compatible with the brushes in your tutorial?
