Potter_Pkr
You don't have to use these programs to learn to type. Just keep practising using your laptop/computer that you use the most. Just regularly type in RuneScape, or perhaps on a instant messaging program like MSN. This is how I learnt to type. I also use the same laptop in my house so that I know roughly where the keys are as plenty of computers/laptops come with different size keyboards. I am an okay at typing when at school because I use school computers, but when I use my laptop at home (or even at school) I can type pretty fast for my age. All thanks to RS and MSN  (Oh and all the amount of homework I get  ) Retired 8th October 2007 | 99 Fishing | 99 Cooking | Owner of a Red Mask and 2 Santa Hats |
cadburys_egg
I'm confused, do you mean ability to type, or ability to type fast? I can type at 100+ wpm, but my average is 60~75 wpm. I've never taken any typing courses, how do they work? ._.; I got mine just because I grew up with computers, I learnt alot with them aswell. Plus, back in the day I had to use DOS which you need to be fairly learned anyway. The key to it is practice (pun not intended). I used to use computers for all my homework, no matter how little. Now that I did that, my handwriting is really scruffy. So I only type up for long (2+ pages) homeworks. Plus, writing manually homework makes me learn it easier. Bmw
I highly recommend Typing Tutor 7. I was forced to learn it in grade 4, and I am so thankful. It has fun games and things, so you'll enjoy it. To back up the fact that it works, it has been 8 years since I used the program, and my current maximum typing speed (on a test that is) is 126wpm. On average, I type about 90wpm. Trust me, it's a great program :P
gonpost
I guess you can use those programs at first... But to be honest, when I was learning in school, I could never type faster than about 50 words per minute. Once I stopped the classes and started typing a home at lot in normal IM conversation and posting on forums, I got a lot faster. Currently I can type between 95-105 words per minute on average, and I can type even faster if I'm typing my thoughts like I am now. So the lesson here is learn on your own. :) Runescape Name: "unbug07"Expand your mind.
Pandaman115
I type really quick, and really accurate. I use the homekeys, it's a lot easier imo. Of course, I have great hand eye corrdination. Gattree
I took a typing class at school to learn. The class was ok since all you had to do is type and it was an easy A since it was all about reaching low set goals and not about how fast you could type. Friends in the class helped past the time too.

Viktorkrum77
They have computers now where you don't have to type. You can write it on the screen or speak it to it! How cool is that![/oldnews] Me doing staff.
greenslime89
Talking on msn in the dark - got me a fairly good typing speed and accuracy as I liked to type correctly. If you just do that you should learn in no time. Photos!

mad4u689
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Best program out there, and has been in production for 20 years now. I used it until high school. Yup, that's the best out there. Also, once you learn the basics of how to use home keys and the like, just typing a lot over IM does wonders for improving your speed :D Everybody hug and spread the love :D

deloriagod
all the right type... i used it when i could only type around 18 words a minute, now i can type on average 88 words a minute I have trouble understand how people can type under 20 wpm at their fastest. When I was in elementary school I could type 40 wpm and I had never touch a computer except for the little games we got to play to help us learn. Now I type an average of 70-80 wpm but can get up to 100 wpm but I've also been playing onlines games for 4 years and actually used to be so shy I'd type instead of talk in Ventrillo  Internet Marketing For Newbies

Guest
I'm one of the few that taught themselves to type quickly by myself. I use the home keys and would strongly suggest you do it that way (unlike the 1st person who posted its not best to just learn how to peck and develop patterns >> because if it were all the secretaries who type fast would do it that way then  ). Its going to be slow at first typing by the home keys but after a while you just memorize all the keys in your head and you can type and watch the screen comfortably like I do. It would also be easy (though I choose not to) to get a typing program but thats not necessary I believe especially if you have to pay for it. And now I can type consistently 60+ words a minute.
megakiller32
Also don't type in chat speak or leet speak lol. :-w Yeah, everyone who types in leet-speak or chat speak need to have electroshock treatment to their crotches  Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)
Revenga
Playing Runescape gradually improved my typing, I was in 6th grade typing like 65 WPH and everyone thought I was cheating ( I wasn't using homerow either, homerow is FTL.) I don't suggest any programs, just type natrually, and eventually you'll memorize the keys and be able to type. |Msg me me in-game | IrreIephant| ^ capital i
