With Thanksgiving, for USA, almost less than a day away, many Americans will be buying turkeys at their supermarkets, preparing for the big dinner celebrating Thanksgiving and giving thanks to the people and friends who have influenced their lives. But 45 million turkeys are giving thanks to the people who killed them. Is slaughtering tons of young turkeys the right answer for giving thanks? I for one, am a vegetarian, proudly not eating the dead, cold meat that sits on the table, in honor of thanks. I do not believe that killing turkeys is a good think. Do you think killing turkeys is good for Thanksgiving? Sorry if this doesn't apply to people outside of the United States.

Although generaly on thanksgiving I have a little bit of turkey and then a ton of sweet dressing and Pumpkin pie.

Honestly Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday, mainly because the time of the year it falls on (arguably the worst time of the year) Haha, I just hate Winter...

Just don't try to cram the idea down our throats (no pun intended haha). We'll eat what we want. Vegetarians don't bug me at all, as long as I'm not forced to hear their rants about how the rest of us are animals.

I don't mind vegetarianism, in fact I have a few vegetarian friends.

 

 

 

But why do vegetarians insist on being "I AM NON-MEET EETER! I R PWN U ALL!", yet meat eaters are not all "I R MEET EETER, BOW TO ME!!1"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many animals slaughtered every day for daily consumption, but why start a vegetarian topic just because of Thanksgiving (not that I celebrate it, go England), most people eat meat everyday and i'm sure more turkey is consumed on Christmas than Thanksgiving.

I've had a thanksgiving meal quite a few times when visiting my relatives in scandinavia and they always serve the turkey cold. I don't get the idea, though the taste is nowhere near bad. I just wonder where the custom comes from? I know slaughtering a turkey is an age-old pagan tradition along with slaughtering a pig in the winter, just wondering where the 'cold turkey' comes from.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyways, to reply to the thread, no I don't think it's justified. I could do perfectly without a slaughtered turkey that was bred for the sole purpose of being eaten on a certain day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I wont refuse one if I'm offered it at a thanksgiving party or dinner. And yes, I do think that if the turkey could breed me, it would eat me with his family on thanksgiving after I weighed 600lbs from all those potato chips it fed me.

All I am saying is that there is nothing wrong with being an omnivore.
