Led-Zeppelin
*? stop whining? I never said I didnt like them you clown. I never said I couldn't make them myself either. stop being so bitter. My comment wasn't nessacarily directed at you, although you were one to quickly jump to defend yourself... Alls I'm saying is to everyone, quit [bleep]ing about pixel sigs, it's an online forum, and people buy pixels for pixels, get a grip on reality. I myself have brought one pixel sig, the rest I've bought are photo manip/abstract, so the one pixel I bought, the other 4 are non-pixel, how the hell is that an "out of hand" craze. misterxman
I make pixel sigs because it's the only thing I know how to make on PC. Terragen, abstract, photo manip, and other things don't interest me. I like to draw, so it was either pencil drawing sigs or pixel sigs. I use to make pencil sigs, Zeppeling is using one I made him right now. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art
youmakemesik
I've already said it on my other post but: 1)Are not abstracts the same too? All similiar style yes? 2)What was with the past abstract trend then? Side-Note: MisterXMan, you're an awesome pencil drawer
Keiphus
Once you have been doing pixel for so long, and you become good at it, all it says about you is that you are too lazy to learn how to really brush. And most of the [cabbage] i see here now isn't even pixel. That smellysocks guy uses flash to do vector, and sizes them down.... that isn't pixel... hell, it isn't even raster.
Terry
why does everyone classify sigs in two categories: pixel or abstract there are many more styles...and like I said before, misterxman, you do not have to use paint/pixel-sigs to express your artistic talent. you can draw/paint in photoshop you know... but I like your stuff dude, your drawings are impressive, keep it up. but you can use other digital mediums and still achieve that feeling you get after you spend a long time on a project. edit: and to answer that other question about why abstract is any better. its not. abstract, bryce, terragen, etc. are all whorish styles that get over crowded by newbs. but, there are exceptions. I am friends with quite a few abstract/3d artists that actually KNOW what they are trying to achieve before they make it, so its not just a random mess of modifiers. in that way, abstract can be a very effective expression of emotion. I can usually tell and have become pretty good at telling when someone has planned their work, or if its a random mess.

And the fact that you can say you made such a wicked looking thing in the most basic of programs; MS Paint is alot cooler than saying you made it in PhotoShop. youmakemesik
^Yes, that is true, but you can't compare two artworks, one of pixel, one of abstract, because they rely on completely different styles to create a 'magnificence' to them...

Guest Deximus
i don think that it is the pixel craze as such in relation to the domination of the sig market its the pages of posts.. rate my first pixel.. i know it is a good way to learn.. but it puts me off reading this board...... Terry
Theres more quality in pixel work, then cged/ cell shaded works. wow...I cant believe how dumb of a statement that was. Have you ever seen a digital painting? I dont mean a crappy one. I mean the kind that take 20 hours, the kind that look so real they look like a photograph. the kind that take so much work its not even funny, painting it in with the paintbrush, one layer only, and using matte colors. there great cause there drawn and takes hard effort and work to make them. same as above. Not everyone wants to buy a computer program for $700 now do they? I classify sigs as; pixel, landscape, photomanip, brushed or absract. I don't know them all cause I'm a noob. And the fact that you can say you made such a wicked looking thing in the most basic of programs; MS Paint is alot cooler than saying you made it in PhotoShop. have you ever heard of a wonderful new thing on the internet, called downloading? and you should not classify sigs at all. theres a lot more styles than that, and its great to see everyone with a unique style. thats why I associate sig 'types' with their artist's name. And I do not believe the program should matter. the people who are making 3d models for movies, should they be criticized for using a 3d program and not drawing the thing out frame by frame in a basic program? no. advanced programs take advanced talent, thats a fact. with greater functionality comes a greater learning curve. I do not believe the statement "theres more quality in pixel work, then cged/ cell shaded works" can be even close to true. everyone has their own idea of quality. Kngkyle
Terry you know what the funny thing is. Its as if you took the words from my mouth. (except i dont use that good of vocabulary) So many people are saying PIXEL SIGS ARE SO HARD TO MAKE THEY MUST BE WORTH THE 500K. There not HARD, there time consuming. It takes a max of 5 min to learn the entire program of paint, with photoshop or other 3d programs you can go years apon years and still never know everything. The reason your seeing alot more pixel sig creators is because people are starting to take advantage of the people paying 500k for these easy-to-make pixel sigs. But most dont like to spend the time making them so they give up. There are some exceptions to this tho. Shaw, Vlad money, and The Jeppoz's pixel sigs are not easy to make. They dont base there sigs on runescape characters like almost EVERY other person does. That makes them unique which is why they get paid more than the rest of you
Nadril
good point, but come on, landscapes!? wow. open up terragen, edit some surface maps, paint randomly for some nice textures, and you have a landscape sig in 3 minutes. im not saying I dont like pixel sigs...im just wondering why they caught on. but as I said...there are other ways of having a detailed picture of your character in your sig. 3 minutes? *looks at some of his stuff* Most of it it took me 30minutes to get a good camera angle that i liked. edit a surface map? good surface maps take a lot of work and layers to do. paint randomly? what the heck are you talking about? :| 3 minutes? lol, alot of my landscapes (and others too) take a good ammount of time to render. I had one that took 11+ hours to render (darn 3200x2400 Ultra super blending :P) and about 1hour 30mins in terragen than about 30mins-1hr more in photoshop. and I still could have done a lot with it, but meh im lazy. anyways, don't go flaming something you don't know about. And pixel sigs, yes they are out of hand.

Pixel art can have the most quality ever because it does down to the smallest unit on the computer. And yes everyone has different versions of quality. Little kids will see these ugly pixel sigs coming up as really good.
Kngkyle
Nadril, i know your a landscape-a-holic but terry is somewhat true. Landscapes do not take a long time to make. You might of worked hard on your landscapes nadril, and i know you do, but other people can get the same effect by knowing the basic knowledge of terragen and make a signature just as good. (now if only all the terragen noobs would learn what a good font from a bad font was) Thats where you have a advantage nad. And you do lots of extra junk to your landscapes (i hope)

Maybe not as much as pixel but still a good time. and that doesn't mean i couldn't crank out a landscape in like 15minutes, (good old save feature, i can use surface maps over and over :P) If i do that with an old landscape and stuff. Plus, i use world machine to make the landscape part of it (not the surface map atmo ect.) so that takes time :P Anyways, i know you don't like landscapes Kng :P  lol

Terry
I know landscapes can take a while to get just right, and I truly admire people that do spend a lot of time on them. they can get quite realistic. But the ones that are used in sigs on the other hand... anyways, don't go flaming something you don't know about. why do you assume I know nothing about it? and I want really flaming, I was exaggerating to make the point that you can make a decent looking landscape in a matter of minutes. and for unknownmasterofnothing: http://www.deviantart.com/view/2062198/
