Working my BA atm... Kinda harder than I thought. :-k

For example, if you are just a high school graduate, you can never earn a whole lot of money per year. (I believe you can only work minimum-wage.)

Words of ignorance (as well as 'doctorates earn more'). In todays world a doctorate isn't even necessary, it will just take you 3 more years (or even more) to graduate and people with a master's degree will earn more by then.

But that one was ridiculous though.

There are some occasions where you need a Doctorate, though. I don't want some guy with his Masters performing my laser eye surgery. My point being that some jobs in society require extensive training.

Still, things like that piss me off. You shouldn't be trying to help people make life-altering decisions when you have information like that.

You're right about that one, I was referring more to jobs like business where personality can also play a big role. Some jobs like a chirugeon may require 10+ years of work experience in the field and possibly a doctorate. But I was talking about the time immediately after you graduate.

Yeah, it would seem that the answer to most college and income-related questions is "it depends".

Do you like being a hole, or were you just born that way?

Well anyways, I was looking at some statistics, and it did say that Doctorates can earn more than Masters.

Also if you just earn your high school diploma and do not earn anything else, you might as well just expect to earn minimum-wage for the rest of your pitiful life.

Besides, high school is a joke anyways.

Do you like being a hole, or were you just born that way?

Because I mentioned your statement was ridiculous?

"I believe you can only work for minimum wage as a HS graduate"

I have a master's degree, but I know at least 2 people, my friends, who only have a HS and make about $2-$4k a month. Do you even know what the minimum wage is in USA?

About $5 bucks an hour, if you work 10 hour shifts, about $1k a month. You'll end up there if you know barely how to read and haven't even set your foot in a school.

Also if you just earn your high school diploma and do not earn anything else, you might as well just expect to earn minimum-wage for the rest of your pitiful life.

That's not even worth replying to. You need to seriously spot a reflection in the mirror and see who's the joke. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I was looking at some statistics, and it did say that Doctorates can earn more than Masters.

Of course they 'can', some surely do. Anything 'can' happen, that's quite a broad assumption. Statistics also say 30,000 americans are injured each year by a toilet, that *can* happen as well.

You just fail to see employers do not only look at your 'master' or 'doctorate' when considering candidates, personality, behavior (or even looks) can play a big part. I've had first hand experience, I wonder if you have.

well, does it really matter in this topic? the problem doesn't seem to be "oh, im not going to get a BA" but more of "oh, im not passing high school/goin to college"

and ihave to admit, Blue, you are also generalizing too much. a few cases does not account for the majority...

... just as you can make 2k-4k a month with a HS diploma. but even on this thread this does not apply to everyone, keeping in mind the number of dropouts this forum seems to have

Easy way to end this:

Everyone under 18! ATTENTION! Please stop talking. You don't know anything. You're making your fellow age-group who MIGHT know something look stupid.

Thank you.

Viktor, what makes you think that having a blue collar job will screw up his life?

Because he's not doing the best job he can. Working at a casino won't screw up his life, but he'll be doing very poorly - and definately not what he's capable of.

My father never went to college, and he still pulls half a million a year. What am I going to do? I'm going to stay in college as long as possible, and get my Doctorate. Obvious, yeah?

Sweeping generalizations are bad.

That was a different time. And still, at least he graduated high school. You can still get good jobs without going to college, but it will give you a disadvantage when trying to apply to jobs, because others with college degrees will be the ones picked first.

Of course people with less education are going to have harder time getting high-paying jobs. That's obvious.

My question is this: Does a man screw up his life by choosing that lack of education and its results? Why?

people that drop out of school are stupid, i mean i know certain parts of school will never help you but they help you get quilifications which helps you get great jobs that pay loads of cash :)

and to try your best think about your answers before writing them, pay attention and mark down on a calander when tests and projects are due, to help you know what and when to revise :D

I'm going to say yes, unless they have a very good plan for a startup or something else. I'd think that if you just dropped out of school with no plans you wouldn't get too far without realizing it was a mistake.

But why is it a mistake? Why is it that having to work a low-paying job would screw up the drop-out's life?

Exactly my point. Most people will want to earn as much as possible, as young as possible. I'd much rather earn $10k a month at age 21 and study 5 years less than a doctorate degree guy, who starts earning $12k by the time he's 26. And by then, I have 5 years of work experience and most importantly, have experienced life.

I don't care about being 60 years old and being a millionaire. I want to be able to use the money when I haven't lived most of my life yet and I'm physically capable of enjoying it.

Most people talk about "if I get a good job, I can retire well on a good pension".

Good for you, but I want to be able to enjoy money while I'm still young.

I got almost a year left of school and normally i don't try to hard, i take short cuts and I'd much rather be hanging out with friends and just having fun, I guess when I'm in my final year I'll have to think about getting my marks up and actually caring more.
