After being on IRC today and hearing someone say "your mom" when I was being serious... and from someone that it seemed like it was below them to say something as stupid and old as that, I wondered why people that are normally very intelligent would do such stupid things on the internet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sure there's a place for fun and all that, but mot people can tell where it is/when it is in real life, but on the Internet apparently everything goes, eh? For everyone that does that kind of stuff because it's the Internet, can you please take it in mind that some people (me for one) come to the Internet to get away from all the people acting like morons in real life?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Side note: I've felt TIF has been falling down this slippery slope faster than usual lately, so I've decided to put tip.it in my hosts file and take a break... if this post seems very scattered, that's because I'm writing it in lynx on the computer that doesn't have TIF blocked. Heedless to say, lynx isn't very fun to compose a post with ;)

People are morons on the internet because I LOVE YOU, I mean, they can. Most kids who first get the internet will play a few games and generally comes across some sort of chat, either a game (RS/iSketch) or JavaIRC. This is when the intermoron gene kicks in and they realise they are invincible. Nobody there will be able to touch them, they're words are up against other's words. Now in real life I expect most of those people are timid and would'nt speak up to a radio, but because they can't see their face, they feel invulnerable.

Apart from the general feeling of invincibility mentioned above, sometimes people just seem like complete asshats because of misunderstandings. When talking over the internet you don't have a tone of voice, facial expression or body language to judge the reactions of whoever you're talking to. This makes it a lot harder to tell when people are serious and when they're just fooling around. Some people are just always off the mark when it comes to judging this - or in expressing themselves - and thus comes off as complete idiots.

Yea, there is a lot of immaturity. While wc, there was this kid who kept saying "poop" and everyone thought it was hilarious. They must have been no older than 10 or 11. I haven't really noticed too much immaturity around TIF. But anywhere you go, theres always gonna be a few people that are immature.

Unfortunatly this community is home to a majority of younger children rather than those who have actually matured. I know I can be immature at times but for the most part I try to hold to my own standards. I can handle a little bit of immaturity around here but when we're on a serious topic I hate having someone try to make jokes in the middle of it. It always causes a flame war.

I think that the biggest factor in Internet immaturity on forums is that spam is usually funny. Some people will do anything to get a laugh and if that means spamming, thats what they'll do.
