Dissections?(Warning, graphic pig pictures on pg3, no blood)

This week is the last week of normal classes at my school before exams. I took biology, and the final lab is dissecting a fetal pig. Yesterday our only job really was to open up the pig and make a big enough opening for today, which we took out the digestive system. My pig's intestines were 2m 78cm long. I got alot of people telling me that if i were to be a surgeon, i would be a hack surgeon because i was just getting my hands in the pig and didnt care about how "gross" it was. (Yes the fluid was drained from the pig, so no blood, but the embalming fluid was still inside.)

Have any of you ever dissected any animals for school or on your spare time (hope you didnt kill it though :XD: Ours were never alive, and died while in the womb. We named ours wilbert :D. Ill get pics tomorrow if possible.)

My senior year of high school I dissected a cat...that was pretty fun. During freshman year we did a sheep's brain and an eyeball. Those weren't quite as interesting as the cat.

In a couple years, I'll be dissecting humans. :)

Nice, im guessing at university? If i had the chance i probably would dissect a human. Its good for people to know what they look like, inside and out.

I'd do it. It would feel much different to dissecting a rat, I bet. Not as in being squeemish, but the knowlege that you are cutting into what was once a preson.

Yes, I'm pre-med at Virginia Tech. Also, in high school, I got to watch open knee surgery. It was very intriguing. I'm hoping that sometime soon I'll be able to witness an open heart or abdominal cavity surgery.

Last year I dissected a toad.

They are disgustiong. They smelt like fish and :uhh:

I cut open a female and saw thousands of black eggs flop out onto the desk. Then I got to its lungs and stomach. I cut open the stomach and a there juet a fly in there.

Overall, it was gross

I just finished biology a few weeks ago. I had a good time dissecting the fetal pig. Most people in my class (including a lot of guys) were scared to touch the pig. I had no problems for the most part. The first time I sliced into it though.. The smell and the idea of slicing open a dead pig got to me and I got light headed. Luckily I didn't pass out and just kept going. My parenter was a girl who didn't hardly touch the pig. That wasn't a big deal though, I let her do all the writing while I did the cutting. My teacher yelled at me for making the pig dance :XD:

Lol i got very dirty looks today because after i unraveled the intestines, i pretended they were spaghetti and pretended to eat them. And alot of people are trying to get their normal stuff then, then we all want to try and get the brain out.....

Heh, I never bothered to completely unravel the intestines and measure them. I did make them into a bracelet though :P My friend yelled at me for that.. I have a tendency to get yelled at :P

Ah, the fetal pig dissection is coming up for me in a few weeks. I like the dissections, but last time I got a little light headed.

In middle school I did sheep eyeballs and frogs. I don't think those will compare to the fetal pig though.

first thing i dissected was a locust. that was WEIRD cuz aswell as being the first thing, you could see under the microscope that they were still moving (due to nerves being stimulated or something, or POSSIBLY the top ones in the jars that they were prepared in wouldnt die totally)

i've also dissected a fair few other things over my degree, but i cant remember most of em.

um...

some kinda red wormy thing that lived in water... we had to catch em first :-) that MIGHT have been so we could see their DNA under the microscope, but i doubt it that was probably a different experiment.

lots of eggs

(to see the developmental stages of a chicken embryo.. its weird when all it is is a little thin bit that you can barely make out, with a few blood vessels, but already you can see a BEATING HEART)

theres others, i just cant remember what they are lol.

Last year we dissected a fetal pig as well. I was pretty disgusted at the whole concept of cutting up a dead animal (or fetus...). But the main thing that bothered me was the smell

Also, a few years ago, we dissected a cow's eye. That was probably actually more interesting than disgusting. Just because I find eyes to be fascinating :P

Well, I've dissected a clam, a starfish, a crawfish, a grasshopper, a worm, and a few frogs.

Can't wait until next year to dissect the fetal pig! :D

I hope to be dissecting humans in medical school someday too.

Probably hated it. got 100s on everything else...70s on dissections.

I dont mine my old blood, in fact- it tastes good!-, [cept maybe the time it was pouring down my side...too salty lost taste] but I hate others' blood. Be it human or animal.

I dissected myself. Then I put myself back together. I think I must have done something wrong, since I'm a little strange. (Uh...I dissected an owl pellet in 5th grade...It was fun at first, got really boring at the end.)
