I've decided to close this topic the only way I know how. I've gotten enough information on it, so I don't need any further input. Thank you all for helping out.

If you put it like this. Nothing is really worth it, besides 91 runecrafting.

To me: it's like every skill. I like to train skills, it's all the fun to me in rs. And it's just another way to get a nice total level. And it's great to train slayer on hard monsters.

When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.

All skills 80+

Well, does ranged pay off in the long run?

Sure, why wouldn't it? It's used for quests, it's nice to try something different from magic and melee, and with all the different sorts of ammo and bows you can use it's quite cool.

Will it pay great dividends in the future?

Well, yes and no. It depends where you train really, if you fight monsters that are just purely good for experience you'll obviously find it's costing more then it made you, but if you range somewhere like, lets say Dust devils, you may find a dragon chain which can easily pay off alot of the money spent on a good range level.

Will it give me lots of money?

See above

Is it a waste of time to train?

Not really, everything you raise will eventually help you in the long run. For example the fight caves, you need a good range level to do that mini-game.

Is it a waste of money to train?

Not really, like I said you could get lucky and find a dragon chain or something else making it very worthwhile

and even 91 rcing is debatable, imagine everything you could do with the time and money spent on getting it.

If you rc nats all the way, it's always a profit, the ability to double nats just doubles the profit. Even airs, it gets profitable after 66

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

ranged is fun just buy like 10k bronzies and bring yourself to hill giants or stronghold. it'll get you a lot of exp.

if you think about it magic is more expensive, really. melee would be cheapest i think. :?

Well, does ranged pay off in the long run?

It only really pays off for F2P pking because I get kills more often during pk trips with ranged than I do with melee.

Will it pay great dividends in the future?

It probably won't.

Will it give me lots of money?

Nope.

Is it a waste of time to train?

I guess, it took me 4 months from 85 to 99 ranged at wildy fire giants with addy arrows. But you could get it in less than two weeks at pest control. If you enjoy training ranged then I wouldn't consider it a waste of time training.

Is it a waste of money to train?

It depends, fire giants, greater demons, blue dragons, abyssal demons and other monster drops can help you break even or probably even make more than you're spending on arrows.

Well, does ranged pay off in the long run? Yes, you get a pretty cape ^_^

Will it pay great dividends in the future? No idea o.O

Will it give me lots of money? Depending on how you train it, maybe.

Is it a waste of time to train? Definately not, you get loads of HP exp, and good drops.

Is it a waste of money to train? Nope, bow - 1k, d hide - 40k, iron arrows - 20 ea, and you pick them up...

Maybe a 1-2m loss getting to 99.

Yes, range is worth it. You can do a lot of things melee can't. It is cheaper than magic and you can duck into safe spots. When doing certain random fighting monsters that only hit with melee (Tree Spirit, Zombie, Shade, etc.). I have won most of my battles with random events from ranging them. And if you fight with monsters who drop the arrows that you use, it will earn you arrows. I just range minotaurs in the Stronghold and I have ended up earning about 1.3k arrows. I haven't had to spend a single cent on arrows.

I think range is worth it mainly because of the diversity it can offer. It might be easier to kill a monster with range, especially if there is a safespot nearby. I will never abandon my ranged levels totally.

Range is powerful because of it's rapid firing speed - you attack faster than any other form of combat. As for the cost... Being F2P, ranging options are limited. I usually train using steel arrows, which I collect from monster drops whilst training combat (lvl 44 zombies, SOS - collected 40k steel). So the cost of buying arrows has never affected me. I don't PK, at all, so I can't comment on its effectiveness in the wilderness, but yeah, I think it's worth it, and I enjoy training it.

The only reason I trained my range level as far as I did (lvl 80) was because I had set that goal for myself but as far as it being worth it, personally I haven't really gained anything from it. I'm sure, just like all other skills, if you know how to use it you will find some value in it.

I am just wondering: is ranged worth it?

Course its worth it its fun and u dont need to bring food along if versing a melee player or monster just stand behind something... :P

Also the time it akes to use up 1000 arrows u could probably pay off alot of that money in no time

My range account is probably my favourite even tho its stats come no way neer my lvl 71 account...

my bro said,"get a life" so i asked "where do i download that...
