This'll sound bad, but just explain this to me.

Why is it that America, a country LESS than 300 years old, is THE greatest nation on the Earth. I don't care if you agree with that statement, it's true, that's why we can go TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, and still prosper. There is no country greater than America, so why is it that we're expected to help everyone? Let them do what they do, sooner or later they'll be done.

I'm sorry, I really don't understand what you are saying. So you are saying the older the country...the worst, in that case, Sudan in deep [cabbage].

The world powers should do nothing, we rose to greatness in less than 300 years, what's their problem?

They're our fellow human beings.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

Which means they have the same brains that we do. They can use them the same way we did. I really don't see the problem, I wish that America could spend its money on itself like France, Spain, Canada, Germany, could you imagine? NO American would be in poverty, there would be FREE healthcare, THE best roads and public transportation ANYWHERE, but we have to spend Trillions on our military and aid for countries that can't get their stuff together. It makes no sense why we became prosperous in LESS than 100 years and are THE most prosperous country in LESS than 300 years, I simply think they should deal w/ it.

I simply think that THEY CANT!! They need our help. We have let this go on for toooooo long. honestly, right now, someone is getting raped, then someone is getting killed by a machette. Seriously, something in wrong here.

Basically, if this thing ever ends, we are going to look like this..

I said this before, give each person 30 packages of ramen noodles with chemical heating pouches, 5 gallons of water and an ak47 with 2 clips of 30 rounds each. give it a week, problem solved. AK's are given away like candy over there, and we have all seen what a group of pissed off Africans with guns can do in Somalia, so if we do this we get = hordes of pissed off, well fed, well armed africans looking for revenge. Just add a "peacekeeping force" of a few hundred millitary stratigests and the problem is solved!

Why would we send our troops do die in a war that has absolutely ZERO effect on us. I mean if both sides got 50,000 tons of bombs, exploded them at the same time and killed every last one of them guess what? CNN would say how sad it was, the president would give a speech, I'd wake up, think "wow that's sad", get a bowl of cereal and go to school. It's sad what's going on over there, no doubt about it, but why should we be the ones to stop it?

You make me sick, people are dieing and you want to sit and do nothing, America is the most powerful country in the world, we have the power to do something and we have the power to stop this killing, how would you feel if you had to live there, how would you feel if we weren't this lucky. Thats just being psychotic, "I don't care".

well, he may not be right but it still should be pointed out that america CANT do anything right now. the war in iraq has paralized the country so it cant declare war without haveing the president impeached. this is the United nations job, not just one countries.

Say what you mean and mean what you say because those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter.

Yes but except minimal aid it looks like th UN is gonna sit on there butts and do nothing, once we get out of Iraq I believe we must work with this area of the world.

Like mentioned, we have a lot of troops in Iraq right now. It's costing us a fortune and notice how our gas prices are so much higher than they were 10 years ago? So now you want us to send troops over to another country so we can build more debt over a war that isn't effecting us. The U.S. might be a major world power but I somehow remember a lot of people saying we shouldn't act like the world police. Why should we step in and be the world police when nobody wanted us to before? I say forget it. If nobody wanted us meddling in their business before we're not going to do it now. They can fight amoungst themselves and when it actually effects us, then we'll kick some [wagon]. Until then I'm taking the "I don't care" stance because it's a waste to get involved and have people [bleep] about us interfering with other countries. Be sick if you like, I don't care about that either. How about you get off your [wagon] and go fight over there? You probably wouldn't. You'd let our soldiers go fight while you sit here and argue about what they're doing.

Time for me to redo this thread....Starting new question:

WHAT SHOULD THE WORLD POWERS DO?

We'd be inclined to help if a few other [powerful] countries just got their act together and got off their [wagon]s every once in a while, instead of just sitting in their cozy little countries doing nothing.

As said, we're not the world police. Don't insult us one day, then expect us to do all the dirty work the next.

Wow, I don't have any problems with Americans, but I'm beginning to think differently. You speak for your nation and its government as if you take responsibility for its capabilities. Rebdragon. :\

The Sudanese people need help, think past your government and realise that people are dying, being threatened and injured everyday and fearing for their lives over there. This has nothing to do with America and what other countries think of it.

I agree with Defender, wake up and smell the suffering.

Eh, I'm an American, so I instinctively used the pronoun "we" instead of saying "the US", since I'm technically a part of the nation. My bad >_<.

Yes, it's important that we help people. To be honest, I'm having trouble taking a side on this issue- choosing between practicality and being a complete humanitarian.

It's just, if people keep expecting the US to do everything (along with UK and a few others), we'll just get to the point eventually where we can't handle all the world's problems. Practically speaking, everyone needs to work together on this issue. Everyone.

Kind of off topic, but sometimes I think that the UN does nothing, just kind of sits around. Sometimes they talk about something, but usually no action is taken. The other day, on John Stuart I belive made a comment along the lines of "There is only one thing that is making so many pissed off about, and the goverment is doing nothing about it ; darfur." He speaks the truth, SO many people are rising hell, including me. And they STILLLL arn't doing anything about it,

I belive we have gave them enough chances, it's time that we acutally do something.

Thanks,

America as a country should for the time being return to a laissez faire type policy on all events excluding climate change. However as a humanitarian, they need to help. I don't buy this "Everyone else should help first" argument.

The real reason why no help is really being given (ie Military interferance) is because this region in Africa is deemed as a doomed area. The only way to prevent all the terrible things happening is to spend billions of dollars. Then what? Africans saturate the market with their skills and soon the world's proletariat becomes worthless and unemployment continues to be high. The only system economically that i could see working is a form of communism, as it's better than what they have now. America will never support communism, and so if left to America nothing will ever dramatically change in the region.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

and so if left to America nothing will ever dramatically change in the region.

So why should we help if nothing dramatic will ever change? Wouldn't that just be a waste of taxpayers money and manpower which could be used for something more worthwhile?

Nothing will ever dramatically change because America is so damn scared of anything challenging capitalism. Thats why.

I didn't ask why nothing would change, I asked why we should bother helping if it's not worthwhile.

It would only be dramatically worthwhile if your country changed it's absolute capitalist stances in favor of humanitarian ones. Sometimes i think Marx would have done himself a huge favor had he not played the scare-tactic card in his work, by saying Communism definatley will come about as a synthesis to capitalism. Drop Marx's paradoxical statements and America may be more accepting that the only way to change these situations is by using another form of economical ideology on a smaller level. Otherwise I agree there is no point helping.
