Wii? Kiddy?

Featured Replies

Today Rockstar Games announced Manhunt 2 for Nintendo's Wii console. The title will also be coming to PlayStation 2 and PSP. The newly-formed Rockstar London will be handling overall development of the game concept (as well as programming the PS2 version), while Rockstar Toronto is heading up the Wii incarnation and Rockstar Leeds is coding the PSP version.

The original Manhunt was the ultra-violent action game that revolved around creative kills such as bashing faces with a crowbar and wire stranglings. The game attracted attention from media watch groups and was fairly well-received by consumers and the press.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds."

Manhunt 2 will be available this summer.

We have yet to hear how or if Wii version is different over the PS2 and PSP versions, but having a unique development team dedicated to this version should help keep this from being just a straight port. IGN has posted the first-ever teaser trailer of Manhunt 2 in our media section. See it for yourself below.

Bah, I don't want to have to buy a PS2, or worse, a Wii, just to play Manhunt 2. :( Lame.

Red Steel, one of the games that came out with the Wii isn't exactly a "Kiddy game" is it?

Why is it that every time Nintendo has a new mature game announced everyone gets all excited about it? The fact that people feel the need to exclaim that Nintendo finally got a non-kiddy game makes it seem kiddy in the first place, as if it's an occasion to celebrate every time we get an M-rated game. Games are just meant to be fun - drop the whole notion of a game being kiddy, and drop the excitement over getting a mature game. Once people in general stop caring whether or not a game is mature, they'll stop caring over whether or not Nintendo is 'kiddy.'

PS: The game looks fun. :P

RE5 is PS3 and 360 only, but Wii gets Umbrella Chronicles. Not alot is known and all that has been shown of it is 3 seconds of video. The story is going to span from RE1 through all the other games, apart from that, nothing is really known story wise. Supposedly it's going to run on a modified RE4 engine with the Wii controls added in. Needless to say, I'll be picking it up.

As for Manhunt, I just hope it doesn't get banned in Australia again for being too violent. Damn the rating board and their lack of an R18+ rating for games.

Its not really the fact that its a mature game, but the first manhunt is known as the most graphicly violent games of all time...

whod ever think that nintendo would have the sequal as a next generation exclusive?

It'll get banned. Our ratings board are [kitties]. Just slap an R18+ on the games and be done with it - it aint hard #-o

Resi on Wii was originally rumoured to be sections from re1 re2 re3 and re4 all with re4's controls, now it's meant to be between Code Veronica RE4 showing whats happened, nothing has officially been anounced though these are both rumours but i'd say the 2nd one sounds more likely

Never fear, Aussie's, for I will send you the game from good ole' America! The land of games that involve kicking heads off and eating them. And it's perfectly okay!

Wii has call of duty 3 and some version of Farcry on it... PHUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! Kiddy image??? Are you 'kidding' me? (sorry bad pun)

People who need a game like this to see that the Wii isn't kiddy need their heads checked. Anyway, yea, cool. I guess.

I've never liked Play Station. I've had Nintendo systems since NES. I don't find the games kiddie, some games come from the movies that have just came out and they are usually lame. Solution: don't buy those games... I just get games like Mario, Zelda, SSB, and whatever looks good to me and has a good rating.

Quit RuneScape :)

It really annoys me when I see threads like this. As my sig says, I come from NoE, and it really annoyed all of us there when we saw people labelling Ninty as "kiddy" as though it's a bad thing... <.<

What is sooo bad about Ninty being kiddy? Their kiddy games are their best by a mile... Super Mario, F-Zero, Mario Kart, LoZ (well, not as kiddy, but certainly a lot more kiddy than other adventure games)... 4 great series of games!

i wish people didnot think Nintendo was a kiddy company... :|

Well some games are directed to kids. I wish they didn't refer to their system as a toy though.

I play my Wii normally with my little sister as she enjoys jumping round the room while playing a game so i don't think i will buy that game because like you said the wii has got quite a kiddy image to it.
