Zombie Films

After watching Shaun of the Dead a few days ago I got an urge to watch more zombie films. Looking back, the only two that I think I have seen so far has been that one and 28 Days Later.... Normally I don't pay too much attention to these sorts of movies, I recall not being all that thrilled with 28 Days Later.... What I am looking for is the "best of the best" in zombie films, so any suggestions?

You should look up George A Romero's films (particularly his early stuff) if you're into zombie films.

Dawn Of The Dead if your into the more faster paced sort of zombies (they can sprint, unlike the zombies who walk slow in movies such as Resident Evil 1/2). Also Dawn Of The Dead is alot more gorier than Resident Evil, which is a bonus. Land of the Dead isn't bad as well, but Dawn of the Dead is way better IMO.

Basically as someone else said, watch the movies by George A. Romero. Theres a new one coming out by him this year, Diary of the Dead.

Romero's stuff is pretty amazing but the remakes wernt really that bad imo (Even though Romeros doesnt like that the zombies move fast). 28 Days Later is also very good with a sequel 28 Weeks Later coming out later this year.

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I'll be checking out George A. Romero's movies, specifically Dawn of the Dead. I didn't know what the general consensus on this was, but I figured since a movie parodied it, it was at least halfway decent. Seems like most of you like it though, so I'll check that out first. I think I've also heard good things about one of his other movies, Night of the Living Dead. So I'll check that one out also.

Resident Evil was actually halfway enjoyable from what I can remember, I haven't watched it in quite a long time. The main thing I remember is Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez both being pretty hot. I'll check out it and the sequel also.

That will probably satisfy my hunger for zombie flicks, but I am always open to more suggestions :P .

Little unknown aussie movie called Undead, you'll love it

I don't know why, but I completely missed your post when I was reading through. Undead, this is the one you are talking about right? I'll see if I can find it.

Also, the only Dawn of the Dead I can find in the usual spots is the 2004 remake. Should I watch this one first, or will that ruin the original?

Land Of The Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, originial and remake, Day Of The Dead (not seen yet but i really want to see it) all in all they are (IMO) the best of the bunch Romero is the zombie master, all other imitations are poor, except Shaun of the Dead, the zombies in it are probably the best in any film (better than dawn and day'cause it's new, better than land because land's are decomposing as of not having enough flesh) dawn of the dead remake is great too, the update of day of the dead look pretty rubbish to be honest, from what i've seen of the original it was good because the base was surrounded by hundreds/thousands of zombies, the remake has running ones so i doubt there'll be as many=not as good, i also hate 28 days later, it's a good premise but it's just not that good....

Bringing up an old topic but, get EVERYTHING zombie related by Romero. He is without dought the biggest influence in the zombie film genre. Most of his films have/are in the process of being remade, watch these aswell.

also get 'World War Z', its a book by Max Brooks ( i think a movie is being made about it ) and it tells the history of a world wide level 4 outbreak, how it started to how it ended and how.

And 28 days later isnt technicly a zombie movie as the 'infected' where just that, they were not dead just infected with a virus which turnt them insane with 'rage' as the virus is called.

Max Brooks also wrote the guide to surviving a zombie apocalypse, if I remember right. I have it on order.

Technically they aren't really zombies in 28 Days Later... like you said, but it's close enough :P . Just like in Planet Terror (first part of Grindhouse), technically they aren't zombies, still plays out like a zombie movie.

My favourite thing about Dawn of the Dead (new version), was that the zombies weren't lumbering morons... they were actual scary fast running nutters. Loved it lol.

As many others have already mentioned...

28 Days Later

28 Weeks Later (out in a fortnight in the UK)

Land of the Dead

Night of the Living Dead

Resident Evil

But what about movies that kinda count as zombies?

Cabin Fever

House of Wax

Wrong Turn

Bad example, those three movies are awful.

Danny Boyle said he thought the film was good, he also spent some sime in post production so don't rule it out just yet.

Oh... and Predador 2.

A couple I didn't see listed:

Re-Animator

Night of the Comet

Not really a zombie movie (more about mummy, but has kind of the feel of zombie) is Bubba [garden tool]-tep, starring Bruce Campbell. I enjoyed it a lot.
