School Issues

Well, to start off the first issue I want to raise is the feeling "I'm older than you, therefore I'm better, respect me!". I realise this issue has been slapped around silly with a dead herring. But I still want to talk about it.

Over the past week at school, I've noticed a drastic change in the kids 2 years below me (year 9). Half of them have been camping out at the ping pong table, as usual. However, they have now picked up the attitude "Hah, you're year 8, I can boss you around!". In this situation, we'll call the year 8 boy Jerry (these are not their real names). We'll call the 2 main year 9 perpetrators John and Jack. Now, the year 8 boy was happily awaiting his turn at the ping pong table. But what do you know, Jack decides to skip the line, cutting in when Jerry is meant to have his turn. In response to this, Jerry protests. Jack says "It's my turn, don't be arrogant". Excuse me, but how is this arrogance?

Now, in this next situation, which occurred the next morning, Jerry waits for his turn at the ping pong table. John is in ace, serves as soon as Jerry picks up the bat, and refuses to serve again even though Jerry wasn't ready. Consequently, Jerry loses his turn, with practically all the year 9's screaming at him to get out.

In this next situation, it is practically everyone present in the house at the time ganging up on one year 9. For all intents and purposes, he will now be referred to as Jim. Jim is pretty good at ping pong. Everybody in his year bags him out asking at different times "How was ping pong camp?". In this situation however, someone kicked a soccer ball into his face, consequently making him hit his head on the ping pong table as he was falling over. Everyone laughed, Jim looked like he was in real pain (and let's face it, he was), and no apology was proffered. A year 12 did it, no less.

In this next situation, a year 12 on a power trip picked on a younger student (year 7 or 8). He was caught playing games on school computers by a teacher and was subsequently kicked off. The year 12 called him over and lectured him on why he shouldn't play games (and I've seen the year 12 in question playing games before), and said "you're lucky he didn't tell your house captain. He usually does that, and then your house captain will give you jobs". I have never known any teacher EVER to inform the students house captain for playing games. This particular year 12 also tells the younglings in his house to stay out of the year 12 room, and that if he caught them in there, they would get automatic detentions. Yeah, like he even has the authority to give them out . By all accounts, he is the only one to do this.

In all these cases, the issue of respect has been prominent. In particular, the first and last cases. Now I'm sorry, but if you want my respect you have to earn it. I wont accept this [cabbage] that you deserve my respect and can't give me a valid reason.

The next issue I want to raise is an issue that has just come up for me. My parents have recently come upon a spot of bother, and can no longer raise the funds to send me to the school I currently attend. So, I must change schools. My mum in particular has told me it's her way or the highway. So, I have a choice between an all boys school in the city, or an all boys school near the beach. I told her I want to choose my own school - one that is co-ed and local, but she has told me "If you don't go to the school I want to send you to, you won't go to school". Now frankly, this is [cabbage] - fine, she's not obligated to send me to school anymore. But she has constantly reminded me of the sacrifices she makes to send me to 'the most privileged' school in New South Wales, and how it's better for my future - and now she's threatening to take me out of school. As a side note, I am almost certain there is at least one other user of this forum that goes to the same school as myself. In my year, no less. Back on topic, I am perfectly fine with putting myself through years 11 and 12 - I have a job, and one reason for wanting to go to a local school is that I can work longer hours - currently I only have time to work on Sunday's, and only for 4 hours. Another reason is that when you go to the same school, that's an hour away from your home, for 8 years, it destroys your social life.

Well, that's all for now. If you made it this far, put 'I want a cookie' at the end of you post. If anybody wants to raise any more issues, feel free to.

EDIT

But wait...there's more.

Since sometime last year (if there are any Sydney-siders reading this, they might know what I'm talking about), which was around the same time the newspapers were writing stories about violence against Jews, it has suddenly become commonplace to randomly bag on Jews - particularly if something goes wrong. I know racism exists everywhere - but for it to be so casual, so 'fashionable' in a sense makes me want to go on a rampage. I though last year that it wouldn't continue this year, as that is usually the case, but it's still happening (albeit it's not as bad as it was before). Thank >insert something not religious here< that this attitude hasn't caught on to the new year 7's.

:? This kind stuff happens all the time, and as long as people are power hungry, they will abuse it.

Now ill mention something here.... It was extremely hard to follow what you wrote(Except for the last part, you were talking in first person). Besides that, this is something you need to bring up with teachers at your school not here (even though your school system sounds a bit weird...). Attempt to actually solve the problem if it is bugging you. We cannot solve it for you.

As for the school thing with your mom, I know Canada has a law that means all kids have a right to an education, dunno if you have that there. If your mom refuses to send you to a co-ed school, why not just go to the public school? Its co-ed, and you still get education. Your mom shouldn't be able to stop you from going to a public school.

Kill them and use their skulls from which to sate your thirst for blood.

Seriously, I had this issue with the year 10s last year. Disrespect and sheer arrogance is not something you want to put up with during your HSC year. Of course, there is never anything that a swift kick in the nuts can't solve. Try that.

I've always felt that you should have initial respect for everybody, just that people will do things which will lose it. Clearly, these are situations where that would happen.

It's a problem felt around the world and it will happen time after time after time. The thing to do if it concerns you is to lend a hand to the affected.

Violence is not the answer...

You can probably make the 9th's stop making fun of/bullying the 8th around you or your friends by confronting them, but they would then bully/make fun of the 8th even worse when no one's around.

You can't do anything about the 12th. If you tell him your opinion he'd get really mad at you, deny it, and/or use stupid self-contradicting arguments to prove himself "right."

I don't know anything about the Australian school system, but going to a different school can't be that bad (except that public schools have a lot more stupid people that private schools.)

Losers...

Are you blind or ignoring me on purpose?

Even though I sometimes side with religious people in some debates, I no longer consider myself religious.

Due to thier stupid hormones, teenagers want to be above everyone else and be the boss of everyone. So talking to them wont work, they'll just deny it and think they're still boss. So all you can do is kick them in the nuts. :P

Too bad, you can't have one :P.

Another issue I wanted to raise is racism, I'll add it to the first post.

Let me guess: most of them were males?

It's called testosterone.

All of them.

It wasn't that I wanted her to put me through a school in year 11 and 12 (which isn't mandatory in Sydney - just years K-10) it was more the hypocrisy - why constantly remind me of the sacrifices she makes to put me through school and then turn around and tell me she isn't going to?

Violence is the most easily understood answer among teenagers.

If a girl kicks a guy there, fine, whatever, it's kinda funny and they probably deseve it. If a guy does it... er, I dunno, seems a bit weird, or at the least cowardly, and it's kind of asking to get kicked right back.

Personally, I'd just go for a roundhouse kick.

They won't kick you right back, on account of being on the ground in pain.

And I'd like to see you try your precious little roundhouse kick when they're right in your face and you haven't got the room to move. If you've ever been in a serious fight, you'd know that it's all about elbows, knees, head butting, and everything else that prissy "martial artists" say is "dirty" or "dishonourable".

Back to the OP, my group found it perfectly fine to make snide little racial comments. Of course, we were a mixed bunch - we had a Cuban-Hungarian, a couple of Chinese people, a couple of Indian guys, a Pole, a Russian, a Pakistani, an Israeli Jew, a Vietnamese... The catch is that if you're going to make racist comments even in jest, you've got to be prepared to get as good as you give. Racism is just a state of mind.

lol, ye best way is the nuts, but it is dirty. I usally just hit them once, good right hander and no one usually comes back for more. mind you im not exactly small or weak so ild say a good old kick will bring anyone down!

on topic!!

i dont get what your post is about? just seems like a rant to me :-s

but to try and answer your question, it is not being old that gets respect, or authority in fact it is the other way round, it is your young age and lack of self experience that does not earn you the same respect they have. moral allways respect anyone older than you automaticly, if they are a complete [puncture] then they lose your respect, but no one should have to earn it.

violence is allways the answer. you try and get your point across to me without resorting to violence whilst i hit you with a cricket bat. i know for sure whos guna win. MEEE!!! becoz u will be dead on the floor! muhahahaha

They won't kick you back, but his friends will feel like they have a right to  .

And grim, I guess it's sexist, but guys are different from girls anyways. A guy hitting a guy is different from a girl hitting a guy, especially in our society.

Think about it. In our society if a girl slaps a guy, not only will it not do that much damage (generally), but the guy is expected to take it and not strike back. If a guy hits a girl, well, it just looks abusive and wrong. It's sexist, but it's how our society works.

How did we go from earning my respect, power trippy people and racism to 13 or so posts on kicking people in the nuts? In my school we have sac whacks. You live in constant fear of being punched/flicked in the balls.

Back on topic...

@fat_hobbit22 - Yeah, it's more of a rant than a discussion, but discussion is welcome. But I am adamant in that everybody has to earn my respect - I wont respect them if I don't know what they're like, or if they've done nothing to do so. I'll give them a chance, hell I'll probably give them three. But they need to earn it. And I'm not looking for respect - if I haven't proven myself worthy of their respect, that's fine, because I don't need their respect. It would seem I have not expressed myself properly, yet again.

Try to stay on topic please. I don't want one of my only topics to be sidetracked about discussions on the best way to bring a man down.

Punch in the stomach, knee in the nuts, arm behind the head forcing it down, stomp on their legs when they're down so they can't get back up, and spit in their face. () \/\/ /\/ {- |) ! :P

No, seriously. Are you big? Are you tough? Do you look like it, at least? If you can answer "yes" to any of these three questions, then get in their face, real confident, say, "Hey, you got a problem with that guy? That guy's a friend of mine, You got a problem with him, you got a problem with ME! Got it?!" or something to that effect. If you're a year or two ahead, chances are they won't mess, especially if you're there with some friends.

Or, be a [kitty] and tell a teacher. -100 points for cowardice, but if it works, then it works. Problem is, though, it often doesn't.
