n00bfiterpk6
Welcome to my Free Play training guide. This guide has a lot of information about the best places to train melee, range and mage in f2p. Contents: Melee - Low level players / Pures -- What to wear -- What not to wear -- Cows -- Monks -- Flesh Crawlers -- Hill giants - Higher-level players -- What to wear -- What not to wear -- Lesser demons -- Cockroaches -- Giant Spiders -- Ice warriors/giants Range - Low level players / Pures -- What to wear -- What not to wear -- Chickens -- Cows -- Minotuars -- Hill giants - Higher-level players -- What to wear -- What not to wear -- Moss Giants -- Lessers -- Giant Spiders Magic - What to wear - What not to wear - Body rune spells (eg. Curse.) - Combat spells - Teleporting - Alching - Fist Of Guthix Low level players / Pures: [hide=What to wear]For the most effective training you will want the best defence bonuss you can get, as for the least amount of banking/fishing or however you plan on getting food. What armour to wear for different defence levels: 1 defence Full Iron (Full helm, plate, legs and kite shield) 1 defence, 40+ range (pure) Green dhide chaps/vambs, iron plate, kite shield full helm 5 defence Full Steel 10 defence Full black 20 defence Full Mithril 30 defence Full addy What weapon to wear for different attack levels: You should always train with the best scimitar that you can use, these have decent strength bonus, and hit very fast. In a lot of testing I found that using a scimitar is much better xp then a battle-axe or any other weapon. Regardless of your attack, strength and defence levels, when training melee you should always wear a strength amulet (it gives a nice 10 strength bonus, more then some low level weapons)[/hide] [hide=What not to wear]If you want to get the best xp you should not wear the following things: - Wizard Robes - Necklaces/amulets other then strength - Trimmed armour/dhide (In my opinion it is a waste of money to buy these trimmed armours as they have the same bonuss as the untrimmed version, but cost a lot more, meaning there is not really any point. However if you have a lot of money and want to look fancy, or you are investing in the armour these armours are fine.) - Members armour. (If you have just come from members dont bother keeping on your favorie decorative armour or what ever you have, as higher level people still know youre a noob, and it gives you no bonuss)[/hide] [hide=Cows] Ok, if you are just starting off head up to the cows close to lumbridge. Kill the cows, collect their hides, and store the hides in your bank when you have a full inventory and repeat. These hides are worth quite a lot if you tan them, so for a low level player you can make quite a lot of money here.[/hide] [hide=Monks] Monks are found in the monastery, if you dont know where this is type it youre your world map. If youre too lazy to use the map, the monastery is a little bit west of Edgeville. Monks used to be a really great spot for training when you where a low level, because they would heal themselves when they were on low hp. They dont heal anymore, but they are still good training. You dont need to bring any food here, if you get on low hitpoints talk to a monk and ask it to heal you. Talk to it a couple times and you should have full hp, for free.[/hide] [hide=Flesh Crawlers] Flesh Crawlers are found in a few rooms, on the second level of the Stronghold of Security. The best room to train on flesh crawlers is here: For pures with 40 attack and 50+ strength this is the best spot to train. I trained my old pure up to 85 strength here, before making it into my main which it is now. What to bring: 2-4 Strength potions (dont really need I guess, I never used them, but it does make xp faster) Rod and bait if youre fishing your own food Inventory of any food, preferably salmon or better Walk into the room and u will be attacked by the flesh crawlers, have auto retaliate on and let your person kill them. You can AFK here, although I dont recommend you ever leave your computer unattended while playing runescape. When the flesh crawlers stop being aggressive, kill a rat and bury the bones it drops. About 90% of the time you do this you will get a random, and the flesh crawlers will be aggressive again.[/hide] [hide=Hill giants] Hill giants are found in the edgeville dungeon, close to varrock. Best way to get to them is to get a brass key and go down the staircase in this room: Hill giants are good if you want to make money. The Big bones they drop sell for around 350 gp each and limpwurt roots they drop also sell for around 1000 gp (these prices change every day so I will not be exact.) Bring a brass key, some food (depending on your defence level, do a few trips and youll find out how much you need), teleport runes to varrock (they drop these runes, so you wont run out). These are decent xp if you can beat the rangers to the hillgiants. Also if your wanting prayer xp bury the bones, and just keep the roots, runes and any other drops you want to keep.[/hide] Higher-level players [hide=What to wear]This is the gear you should wear: (not wearing guants in this photo, but I recommend that you do. Rune Full helm Strength amulet Rune Plate body Rune Plate legs Rune Berserker shield (fist of guthix) Rune gauntlets (Fist of guthix) Rune scimitar What ever boots you like A team cape This gear gives good defence, strength and attack bonuss.[/hide] [hide=What not to wear]Dont wear any other weapon then a rune scimmy for training. Since youre a higher level, you can get away with wearing fancy wizard robes and such, but if you want the best xp you can get stick to the gear I recommended.[/hide] [hide=Lesser Demons] Lesser demons are level 82. They are found in the karamja volcano. To get to lessers: Head down to port sarim (with 30 gp) Catch a boat to karamja Walk west to the volcano Climb into volcano Go west Go south or north, depending on which spot you like better Lesser demons drop a lot of good alchable stuff, like rune meds. So take alching runes (1 nature and 5 fire runes per cast, you could just take nature runes, as these drop a lot of fires.) Most people train with lobsters here, as you can fish them on karamja, although if you want the fastest xp possible here take: 100 or so noted strength potions 1000 or so noted food (salmon or better) some gp (atleast 50k) go to the general store, sell a couple strength potions and buy them back, same with food. This is just like having a bank, just a little bit expensive. You can also get decent xp fishing your own food.[/hide] [hide=Cockroaches] Cockroach soldiers are level 83. They are found in the safety stronghold. Climb down the crevice to this strong hold (just under edgeville) and you will be at a room with a few of these soldiers, and will be close to lots of other ones. Cockroach soldiers are not very fast xp, but are great for f2p because of their drops. These soldiers drop rune scimitars, rune square shield and a lot of law/and other runes. You can bank at edgville to store your drops and get food, or you can bank at edgville and fish your own food if you wish. If you have more information about these please post it.[/hide] [hide=Giant Spiders] Giant spiders are level 50 and are found in the third level of the stronghold of security in numerous rooms. These are the spots I recommend using for training on these spiders. Giant spiders are probably the best melee xp for higher-level players in f2p. For the best xp wear the recommended gear and take 2-3 strength potions and an inventory of good food. Head down to the stronghold and go into the room of your choice. Drink a sip of strength potion and just stand in the middle of the room. These spiders are aggressive to everyone, no matter what combat level, so this is a spot where you can AFK train (I do not recommend ever leaving you computer while playing runescape, but you can focus less on training and talk to people, watch videos on youtube or possibly do some work while training.) When the giant spiders stop being aggressive, go for a short run to a few rooms away (or up to the second level and back) and come back and they should be aggressive again. These spiders have no drops. Bank in edgville to get food, and this spot is great xp.[/hide] [hide=Ice Giants] Ice Giants are level 53 and ice warriors are level 57. Ice giants are a good place to train if you want prayer xp and some decent drops. If you are lower then level 115 you will be attacked by the ice wariers which you can also kill for decent xp. I dont know a lot about Ice Giants as ive never trained there, so if you have some information to add please post it J[/hide] Low level players / Pures: [hide=What to wear]If you plan on using safe spots then wear the best range armour you can, to get the best range bonus that you can. While if you plan in tanking then you will want some extra defence bonus. Example. 40 range and 1 defence: (safe spotting) Green dhide vambs and legs, leather body, coif, power amulet and maple shortbow. 40 range and 20 defence: (safe spotting) Green dhide vambs and legs, Studdered body, coif, power amulet and maple shortbow. If you plan on tanking switch the coif with the best full helmet that you can wear. Figure out the best equipment you can use with you levels.[/hide] [hide=What not to wear]When ranging you do NOT want to wear your regular melee armour. I see to often people trying to range in full adamant armour and stuff like that, while this does give you a better defence bonus if makes your range bonus horrible. You are better off to wear range gear and to kill the monsters fast then to keep hitting 0s while wearing armour. Also do NOT use longbows are comp bows. These are slow, and you hit the same that you would with a shortbow. While these do have a little more range bonus it is not nearly worth it for the speed you sacrifice to use one.[/hide] [hide=Chickens] If you are just starting off range (eg. 1-5 range) then chickens are the things for you. Grab a training bow and arrows from the range tutor, or buy a short bow and some bronze arrows and head up to the chickens, just above the goblins, across from the cows, close to lumbidge. Range the chickens and loot there feathers and raw chicken and bones if you want to make a little bit of money. As these have very low hp they are not a good spot to train when your range is more then like 10.[/hide] [hide=Cows] Cows are also good if you have a low range level. They are located in a pen, just over the lumbridge bridge, east of the goblins and chickens. Kill these and bank there cow hides and bones to make some fast money. You dont need any food, as if you die you can easily run back up to your grave in time to save your loot.[/hide] [hide=Minotuars] Minotuars are found in the Stronghold of security, all around the first level. There are a couple good rooms to safe spot these in, and they drop a lot of iron arrows, so these are excellent to train on. Minotuars are fairly good xp, and the stronghold of security is close to edgeville so banking is fairly fast.[/hide] [hide=Hill giants] Hill giants are found in the edgeville dungeon, but the fastest way to access these giants is to get a brass key and to get into the little room which is just east of the river between barbarian village and varrock, and is not far above the path that leads into varrock. There is a ladder in this room, go down it and you are at the hill giants. The spot above is where I safe spot these giants, but there are numerous other places to safe spot them, so just experiment and find out which place you like best. Hill giants are great to kill for money, as big bones are worth around 350gp each and limpwurt roots are around 1000gp each. They also drop a lot of runes and occasionally some nice gems. For the fastest xp take runes for varrock teleport, and as soon as you need to bank, teleport to varrock, bank, and run back. Banking with this method can be done easily in less then 40 seconds. If you want pray xp these are also a good thing to train on. Just bury the bones and keep the limp roots.[/hide] Higher-level players [hide=What to wear]Safe spotting/very high defence: Green dhide Coif Green dhide Body Green dhide Chaps Green dhide Vambs Power amulet Any boots Any cape Maple shortbow Arrows Tanking: Rune Full Helm Green dhide Body Rune plate legs (with very high defence Green dhide chaps may be better) Green dhide vambs Power amulet Leather boots Maple shortbow Arrows[/hide] [hide=What not to wear]When ranging you do NOT want to wear your regular melee armour. While these do have a little more range bonus it is not nearly worth it for the speed you sacrifice to use one. (yes this I did just copy this from the what not to wear section in lower level players, but its exactly the same so dont flame me for using same info twice)[/hide] [hide=Moss Giants] There are moss giants in the varrock dungeon and on crandor. You can safe spot them and they have decent drops. Ive never trained at Moss giants so I dont know a lot about them, please post and help me to add more information :).[/hide] [hide=Lessers] Lesser demons are level 82 and are found in the karamja volcano. To get to lessers: Head down to port sarim (with 30 gp) Catch a boat to karamja Walk west to the volcano Climb into volcano Go west Go south There are a couple safe spots for ranging lessers. Range which ever one you feel most comfortable with. They drop a lot drops which are worth alching (rune meds ect) so bring alching runes.[/hide] [hide=Giant Spiders] Giant Spiders are level 50, are found in the third level of the stronghold of security and are possibly the fastest range xp you can get in f2p. These are the spots I recommend using for training on these spiders. For the best xp wear the recommended tank ranging gear and take an inventory of good food (salmon or better is recommended). Head down to the stronghold and go into the room of your choice. These spiders are aggressive to everyone, no matter what combat level, so this is a spot where you can AFK train (I do not recommend ever leaving you computer while playing runescape, but you can focus less on training and talk to people, watch videos on youtube or possibly do some work while training.) When the giant spiders stop being aggressive, go for a short run to a few rooms away and come back and they should be aggressive again. These spiders have no drops. Bank in edgville to get food.[/hide] [hide=Ankous]Ive been told that ankous are good xp so ill add a section for theese soon :)[/hide] [hide=What to wear]When doing combat spells for magic you want to have as high magic bonus as possible. GEAR TO WEAR WHEN MAGING: Druidic Hood (charged) > Runecrafter Hat > Druidic hood (uncharged) > Combat Hood > Wizard hat Druidic robe (charged) > Runecrafter robe > druidic robe (uncharged) > Combat robe > Wizard robe Druidic Skirt (charged) > Runecrafter Skirt > Druidic skirt (uncharged) > Combat skirt > monk skirt > Any other skirt (no bonus's) Runecrafter Gloves > any other gloves Magic amulet Elemental staff. Druidic and Combat robes can be bought from the Grand exchange or from Reggie with fist of guthix tokens. While you can wear these robes uncharged, it is recommended to have the robes charged by Reggie at fist of guthix. Runecrafter robes are bought from the Great orb Project mini game. This mini game is located in the rc guild in the wizards tower. You dont need any defence to wear these robes, however you need 50 runecrafting to enter the guild. ^^A player wearing full Runecrafter Robes.^^ (pic by 001hayden1) If you are alching or doing any other non combat spells you can wear what ever you like, as bonuses will not help in anyway. You may want to wear armour incase of random events ect.[/hide] [hide=What not to wear]When doing combat spells do not wear any armour, as it has negative magic bonus. The only exception to this is when you are training while cursing where you want as low magic bonus as possible.[/hide] [hide=Body rune spells (eg. Curse)]Cursing is a good way to train mage if you want cheap xp with no hp xp. When cursing you want to have as low mage bonus as possible, so that the spell splashes. Equiptment for cursing (with 1 defence) Full iron armour Green dhide vambs No ammy/str/defence Leather boots Iron warhammer/water staff What to do: Simply find any monster which you can safe spot eg. Cows over the fence, and just keep casting curse on the monster until you run our of runes/reach your target level/die of boredom.[/hide] [hide=combat spells]Training magic using combat spells against monsters can cost a lot, and may be slow xp. For this reason I recommend alching or cursing. If you are going to fight stuff with magic, where the best robes you can, and use the best spell you can. A good thing to mage is the caged lesser demon, found in the wizards tower. You might actually make a profit here if you are using a cheap spell and get some nice drops.[/hide] [hide=Teleporting]Teleporting is a fast but expensive method for training mage at lower levels. Varrock Teleport ~ Level 25, gives 35 xp per cast Lumbridge Teleport ~ Level 31, gives 41 xp per cast Falador Teleport ~ Level 37, gives 48 xp per cast Teleporting only takes a few seconds, so you can get fairly good xp doing this, but it is costly.[/hide] [hide=Alching]Alching is one of the best, and probably most used ways to train magic. High Level Alchemy is a spell, which requires level 55 magic to do. It turns items into gold, and gives 65 xp per cast. It requires 1 nature rune and 5 fire runes. When alching, always wear a fire staff, to save the cost of fire runes. There are numerous items which you can alch for very little loss, and sometimes even for a profit. Some good items in f2p are: Adamant platebodys, Green dhide bodys and some rune weapons. Prices of these items change every day, so experiment around and do the math to find out which items you can alch for little loss, or maybe even profit. Speed: You can cast around 1000 alchs in an hour (even more if you concentrate), so it is about 65k xp an hour.[/hide] [hide=Fist of Guthix]Fist of Guthix is a mini game, located in about level 5 wilderness, just above varrock. In this mini game you are given a lot of runes, for free, which you can only use in the game. This means if you use magic you can get free xp. You also may win some fist of guthix tokens with which you can buy numerous items, such as rune beserker shields, gaunts and combat and druidic robes. You can also spend these tokens to recharge you shields, gaunts and robes.[/hide] Thats all for now. I hope this guide has helped some people with their f2p training. Thanks for reading. Please leave constructive criticism and helpful comments; Id like to hear what you think of this guide. If I have missed any good places or made any mistakes please tell me and ill try to fix it up. Also this is 100% my own work, please do not post this information again on this or any other site, without asking me first. All pictures where either taken by myself or from tip.it. 001hayden1
i believe that this would be the highest mage bonus in f2p compared to though i may be wrong since my druidic robes were at 0 and cbf recharging them lol NOTE: you have to do the mini-game called "the great orb project" to get the blue robes, and the mini-game requires 50 runecrafting to do Off, is the general direction I wish you would [bleep].http://i1155.photobucket.com/albums/p549/hihi244442/TLoUGIF.gif[hide=My perception of the Admins in Assistclan:][/hide][hide=Drops]Slayer: Lots of Dragon Boots, 16 Whips, 24 Dark Bows, 7 Staves of Light, OVER 9000 CharmsGWD:Bandos: Lost countZamorak: ^^^^^Saradomin: ^^^^^^^^^^^Armadyl: None[/hide]
Owned_Nex
though i may be wrong since my druidic robes were at 0 and cbf recharging them lol NOTE: you have to do the mini-game called "the great orb project" to get the blue robes, and the mini-game requires 50 runecrafting to do Thats interesting, however, Druid Robes DO have a higher bonus while recharged. I'm not sure by how much though. OT: Basic guide, but good none-the-less. I would go mroe in depth, as this is pretty much all common sense. Dungeoneering isn't a skill. Weiyao
For spiders bring fly fishing rod and feathers. A full inv of trout will last rough two doses of strength pot at 60ish defense which lasts for around 8-10k exp. Lesser are not "good". They're crowded from rangers in lower pit thing in karamaja, on crandor there's always 3 meeleers there. They hit harder and is slower respawn(there are less, there won't always be one when you kill another) and exp than spiders.
dragonboytwo
great guide for f2p training, also for more info you can go to my guide on crandor which has good information on lesser demons and moss giants, feel free to use any info you find on it here.[/url also i am currently working on a f2p attack guide with cockroaches included, again great guide, 9/10 21 levels left to become a f2p guild master Yay!Regards,Dragonboytwo

alex_Lei1993
Add Ankous for High Level range training. They are the best EXP in F2P after 80+ Ranged and they have decent drops. (Adamant Arrows, Law Runes, Mithril Ores)
llamster
Dang. I was hoping that I would have no competition if/when I write a F2P mage training guide. Lessers and mossies are about the two worst range training monsters ever (in F2P). The reason behind this is that they are so crowded; if people realized there were other good options for range training then they would themselves would also become good options for training. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
n00bfiterpk6
Ok. I have updated the magic equiptment section, i think it should be right now. Ill also have to look into ankous for range, although i doubt they beat giant spiders :P thanks for the help guys, keep the ideas coming.
alex_Lei1993
Dude, Ankous are sick. They have about 60 HP each, and iron arrows pierce them easily with 80+ Ranged. There is a very reliable safespot that gives you access to like 6 spawns, and they are rarely crowded. Also, they have great drops. I can show you a safespot if you want. Inuashakent
This guide is a mile long but an inch deed. But that isn't a bad thing, though. And yeah, Lessers and Mossies are bad because they're the stereotypical training spot for F2P. I don't have the time to read it, but it seems like a great guide to me. Good job, definetely. And also one of the best F2P guides on TIF... or is it the only? Either way, it will help a lot of people. [Summoning guide (AOW)] [Slayer guide] [Melee & Brawl player]

llamster
recharged combat robes give +37. I use those as i'm f2p The only FOG robe that has any use is the robe bottom, since there's no wizard robe bottom. And even that is obsolete if you have 50 runecrafting. The extra mage attack simply isn't worth the cost of the tokens. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

The extra magic bonus is very worth the few games of fog, and imo fog is a great game ;)
