Jezz2k
Hello and welcome, this is my guide to killing Waterfiends (guthan style), please keep in mind this is my first guide for a good year or two  . CONTENTS: 1) What? 2) Where? 3) How? 3i) The Inventory 3ii) The Method 4) The After-Shock! 5) Credits! ~~~~~~ 1) What? NPC: Waterfiend Level: 115 Race: Demon HP: 128 Weakness: Crush - IMPORTANT The Waterfiend NPC does not attack with melee, it attacks with a water based arrow (ranged) as well as a water blast spell (magic). This monster is also immune to poison. The most common method of killing this particular monster is by using Karils Body and Skirt accompanied with a Saradomin Sword. But, I'm going to explain a method to you that I use. - 2) Where? The Waterfiend can be found in two places, the 'Chaos Tunnels Dungeon' and 'The Ancient Cavern'. I wouldn't recommend using the Chaos Tunnels Dungeon as it is a 'multi-combat' area meaning, you will have 5-10 of them attacking you at one time, which of course, means you will eat your food a lot faster. - 3) How? 3i) The Inventory Inventory - 4 Combat Potions (4) - 16 Prayer Potions (4) - 1 Anti-fire Potion - 1 Anti-Fire Breath Shield - 1 Games Necklace - 3 Cooked Shark > Monkfish - 1 one-click teleport Equipment Alternatives -Cape: 99 Skill Cape -Amulet: Amulet of Glory -Gloves: Any Recipe For Disaster Gloves (higher the better). -Boots: Rune Boots -Ring: Warrior Ring > Ring of Life - 3ii) The Method While still at the bank, drink 1 dose of anti-fire potion and then bank it. Then use your Games Necklace and teleport to 'Barbarian Outpost', once you're there, run inside the building and deposit your Games Necklace into the 'Bank deposit box' by using the necklace on it. (Either look at the map above or read this step) After this you want to run outside and directly south, until you come across a platform that goes over the water. Once you're standing on it, right-click the 'Whirlpool' and jump in it. Once you're down there equip your 'Anti-Fire breath Shield' follow the map below: I usually use spot '1' because there's generally less people and there's a good number of Waterfiends. SPOT 1: SPOT 2: Now there, make sure your Guthan's Spear is on CRUSH (Pound) This is IMPORTANT because Waterfiends are weak against Crush Attacks. I fight without using any prayer until I'm at 50% HP Left (Use 50 HP at level 99), Once I've reached my mark, I activate 'Protect from Missile' (range) prayer (you should always use this because it's far more dangerous). I use the 'Protect from Missile' prayer until I'm at 75% HP (Use 75 HP at level 99). Almost every time my Guthans heals me to 90+ HP almost instantly. At this point you may be wondering, what's the shark for then? Occasionally you may think your Guthans is broken because it may not heal you and you could even get down to 10 HP, the food is almost a safety thing, I eat one shark when I reach 20 HP (or below). You don't want to be going any lower because you may get the random lag-[bleep]e or even lose connection. One inventory can usually last between 3 and 5 hours depending on the players stats. - 4) The After-Shock! In Text 53 x Gold Charm 28 x Green Charm 359 x Crimson Charm - The reason why we're here ;) 8 x Blue Charm 5 x Water Battlestaffs 1 x Blue Vambraces 1 x Rune Medium Helmet 1 x Ranarr Seed 1649 x Water Runes 190 x Blood Runes 161 x Death Runes 4 x Ranarr Weed (herbs) 140 x Seaweed 90 x Mithril Ore 80 x Snape Grass 201 x Water Orbs 1 x Level-3 Clue Scroll 2430 x Mithril Arrows - 5) Credits! AQ - Aquiline FTW! Tip It Jezz2000 - For the Guide :ugeek: Please feel free to post constructive criticism and/or suggestions. If anyone else has any 'After-Shock' screenshots, please feel free to PM me them. I will add them as well. --Jezz2000

envoy707
Very very nice guide =D> I have Waterfiends for my slayer task and I was thinking about using full Guthan's, but then I thought they would hit too much and overpower my healing ability. But now that I have read this, I'm gonna go try it. Thanks :) Proud owner of a quest cape.

compfreak847
Sorry, but this method just isn't that great. Sure, you can stay for long trips, but the bank is a minute or two away and guthans spear is a HORRIBLE weapon. I personally use near-maxed strength bonus + piety and a zammy spear (shared training). Yes, I have to bank every 130 crimson or so, but I can get well over 100 crimson charms per hour, and still come close to breaking even. mchainmail
one thing, don't worry about the anti-fire shield or pot. Just pray mage and run. It knocks the damage down a lot.
Inuashakent
This should only be used for people without 68 summoning. [Summoning guide (AOW)] [Slayer guide] [Melee & Brawl player]
SythenRs
I notice you have straight 99 combat stats, is this a requirement or can I do it with my stats? (see sig) I may try this if you think my stats are good enough, if they aren't maybe you could post suggested minimum stats? Thanks, good guide. Nopnoob
I also want to know how long I could approx last. 83 att 86 str 80 def 84 hp 80 mage And how about taking alchs for battlestaves and med helms? Dutchy
Jezz2k
I would suggest 85+ stats for this method, you could do it at 75 75 75 but wouldn't be as effective.
oliboli1992
would i be effective? i got full guthans [spoiler=Sig] I like to think of the Dark Bow like a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) - you get one shot and then you're screwed.
Trollface
The waterfiend's magic attack would shred people wearing full guthans. Wearing full karils saves prayer points 3/
Salad
Ah this is where my friend found the setup... It was too good for his brain lol. I might actualy try this :o 359 crimson per trip is good even if I won't train summoning for a long time. You could also add bunyip if you can because it helps alot here. muggiwhplar
berserker ring would be the best ring here... warrior ring only gives a slash att bonus which is useless since you're using crush ;)
ReapMe
Purpose of people hunting waterfiends is fast crimsons. Using guthans is by no means "fast" You can probably get the same amount of crimsons an hour elsewhere What?
J35u5_M4
nice guide, think all melees 91 will do? What's average xp using a warr ring and and qp cape?, and what is the average xp per hour by controlled?, to all melees + hp? (shud be the same since they both get 1.33xp per 1 hit)

What's average xp using a warr ring and and qp cape?, and what is the average xp per hour by controlled?, to all melees + hp? (shud be the same since they both get 1.33xp per 1 hit) You'll be fine with all melees 91... But just a heads up, don't use a warrior ring, it will do nothing for you down there because all it gives is +4 slash attack and you will be using crush attack style as they are weak against it. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. Guthans is basically the method for people who don't have 68 summoning yet. Atleast, thats what I see it as... Once I hit 68 summoning, I probably won't use guthans since a bunyip and a stronger wepon would probably be more effective down there. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. electrone0
gonna use this next time I get waterfeinds Winged Fish on a RWT complaint- There's four complaints on the whole site, one from a mother who was convinced by her son that the RWTers she was buying him items from were from Jagex (and then got scammed and is taking it out on Jagex), two people complaining about having their accounts taken away, and one ranting on the trade restrictions and wilderness removal. Now just change the background color and page layout, and you have the RSoF

oxidation83
I really don't like this method at all. Having gone from 68-80 Summoning on these I've tried a lot of different setups, this one included. By biggest gripe is that it's just plain slow. Aside from completing a slayer task, the only reason to hunt these is fast Crimsons. Necessitating the use of the Warspear in place of weapons that have better stats and a higher speed as well as removing the ability to use a Slayer Helm are major issues. I guess it could be useful for people with <68 Summoning, but even so, I would still rather pack a lot of Pineapple Pizzas and bank more frequently. A bank trip doesn't take any more than 2 minutes. I also have a few suggestions for your methods. First off, Combat Pots are just bad. If you're going to try to save inventory slots, try Zamorak Brews. They boost your stats higher than Combat Potions and recover a random amount (~7) of prayer with each dose. With all the healing you have the loss of HP and defense are basically a non-issue. The antifire shield is just a wasted space. If you insist on completely protecting yourself from the dragonfire as you run to your spot, take a sip of Antifire and use Protect from Magic as you run through them. This works for 100% protection against "leather" dragons (or it still did several months after they changed it for metals).
