1.1 Summary

Looking at your friends

Friend finder is a world map addon, that allows you to log into the world map, and view the location of your online friends. Quite simple, really.

1.2c Preferences

In game, on the tools menu, underneath your house information button, there is a little "Beacon" button. If you click on that, it brings up the menu to control your friend finder preferences. YOu can set WHETHER YOU WANT TO BE SEEN by friends, the public, or noone. PLEASE, I'M BEGGING ALL OF YOU PEOPLE WHO SAY "WELL THIS WILL RUIN FIND-ME GAMES" AND SUCH, READ THAT PART!!! You can also set the duration between pulses to the server. Pulses tell the server where you are, so the map won't exactly be "Real-Time", but will give an idea to the are the person will be. You can set the duration to five minutes, 10 minutes, or 15 minutes, along with auto pulsing after transportaion (gliders, teleport..., not shown). There is also a button that will let you manually pulse the server, instead of waiting for your time.

This new and improved map will show you where you are, have a built in PM function (Not Pictured), and you will be able to manage your friends list at the same time.

This map includes a PM function, that will let you chat with your friends, without leaving the map interface.

Great idea.

This feature, however, might be unfair in the Wilderness, though.

Its only unfair in the wildy, if the person's Private was on.

I support, with this I can give directions to my "newb" friends, without having to them following me around.

Support'ed. It would be great to be able to meet friends in places without requiring extensive directions. "Okay, I'm at the Khazard battlefield..." "where's the khazard battlefield?"

With the map:

"Okay, meet me." "Okay, I see you're at the Khazard battlefield. I'm on my way."

And of course:

"Hey, why'd you stop at most farming patches?" "Oh, just making my rounds."

Which ^ is used instead of:

"OMG what's taking you so long!?" "I'm doing my farming rounds, duh"

1) Imagine the server load: The map would tap into ALL 140 game worlds and look for your people. This would all be channeled into one or 2 servers for the purpose of the map, which would put a nasty load on the servers. Imagine the people with 50 some friends on at any given time... Ouch!

2) When you log onto the map, it would potentially interfere with your in-game login. You could set it up where you could only use the feature when you are logged off yourself, however it would be hard otherwise because the game would have to learn the exception that if you're viewing the map, you can be in the game, and it has to route friends data to two places. In addition, it'd have to figure out where you are when displaying you to your friends on their friends list.

1) Maybe it could be so that you have to type in a name, or select a name from your friends list (which would be feasible, sort of like the hiscores), and you could only view one at a time.

2) I don't really know how those guys would program it up, but even, put simply, runescape is set into coordinates, and those coordinates would correspond to the map, and the map would know. Just an idea.

I like the idea but have it so they have to have you on their friends list for it to work otherwise you could track people into the wild (bad)
