Changes coming to the Grand Exchange

Posting just made by Mod Mark:

Hi,

I just wanted to make a post about the concerns some of you have about the value of objects in the Grand Exchange. Now, in some cases, the prices just started off completely wrong, despite the months of research and data gathering we did before launching the Exchange. We will be correcting those starting values as soon as we can. In the remaining 99% of cases, the prices are moving because of the following reasons:

1.

Selling objects is now much easier and less time consuming; therefore, more objects are on the market.

2.

Buying objects is now much easier and less time consuming, therefore, there are more offers for objects.

3.

Affecting the buying and selling market in this way means a quicker movement of price.

4.

Rapidly moving prices generates a 'fear of loss' and a 'need for profit' in the market and will often result in panic buying or selling, especially from a market who are used to prices remaining fairly static.

LetÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s take maple logs as an example.

Lots of players have lots of maple logs because of the reward from the Throne of Miscellania quest. These people have used this reward to get tree seeds, but have generated all these maple logs as a by-product.

When we released the Grand Exchange, many of these players put all these spare logs up for sale. It takes no effort to do this, unlike posting in the Marketplace Forum or standing at a bank and shouting ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åselling maple logsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

We are, however, working on providing charts and statistics to help players read the market and the fluctuating price of objects.

Awesome.

EDIT:

[[For] newly-released objects] the ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâñ5% rule of the Grand Exchange (see the relevant Knowledge Base article) will be waived to allow for greater price movements.

Awesomer.

Step in the right direction, but if they don't fix the slow updates and the 5% limits on ALL items, come January the markets on many products are going to seize up.

Interesting read. Makes perfect sense as far as I am concerned - although I am suprised we wont get complete control of the market of new items eg the starting price

It's good to know that Jagex is working to correct some of the current price issues and are in fact listening to what the players are saying.

We are also going to be improving the way you interact with the Grand Exchange itself - there'll be more information on this in a newspost soon.

Can't wait

...all objects have a minimum value, similar to its high alch value + the cost of a nature rune.

Well, that explains why items like Rune Battle Axes and 2HD swords haven't dropped in price any more. They are both already at the high alch + price of a nature rune limit. Still free mage exp, just don't expect to make a profit....

They're removing the 5% rule? Good, now we can actually set our own prices.

Umm... Where did it say that?

the ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâñ5% rule of the Grand Exchange (see the relevant Knowledge Base article) will be waived to allow for greater price movements.

He was referring to new items, not all of them.

Sounds great. They have put some thought into this, and appear to be going in the right direction with it. It is smart that they waive the 5% restriction on new items so the item has a chance to find an appropriate worth to players.

Yes they only said new items, but they SHOULD remove it for all items or else, come January, we may experience some "market seizings" like qeltar said.

Although we will have to set a generous starting price, the ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâñ5% rule of the Grand Exchange (see the relevant Knowledge Base article) will be waived to allow for greater price movements. This means there will be greater opportunities for profit on new items.

Conform what I suggested. It seems they are also going to work to give the players a bit more transparency.

Oh well looks good even though they don't adress:

- Liqudity issues. People need to be able to place more orders than 2 as free player or 6 as member player.

- The crappy Adaptive Pricing System behind the Grand Exchange

- They actually plan on introducing more price floors instead of less. They break their promise that the Grand Exchange will be a purely player based trading system by buying items for these price floors.

Oh and very funny:

magic logs will slowly climb

The mod actually succeeded in naming a resource that barely changed throughout the past 5 years and claims that it will rise in price.

Didn't they make the limits 8 and 35 respectively? Or are going to very shortly?

Where did you hear this?

Disclaimer:

Dont care that qeltar posted this, not responding to him, but rather commenting on the post.

So, what can we do to stop this from happening? Firstly, DONÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢T PANIC! Panicking just makes things worse. Prices on these objects will settle down in time. If youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re a player who enjoys making money from the market then be patient. This instability a temporary thing;

My god after reading that all I wanted to do is shout insults at that mod. Players who enjoy making money from the market are all but gone thanks to their wonderful changes. First, they do everything to destroy merhcanting then they talk abou tmerchants, pathetic.

God im so irritated with this delibarte ignorance and throwing dust in our eyes to blind us from the truth.
