  1. ...And Harley Davidson riders get Harley Davidson tattoos along with Marine Corps members getting the USMC logo tattooed on them. If I like Alex Grey's artwork, it's probably because I found out about him through Tool. I don't see why you would even have to say something like that as if it were too "cliche". It's because it is cliche.
  2. Tool fans always get Alex Grey tattoos.
  3. I'm awful with my contact lenses and am yet to get an infection. I don't track how long I use the same pair, am not thoroughly clean when I'm putting them in or taking them out, and often times I'll fall asleep with them in when I get back from the pub. You should take much better care with them of course, I'm only saying that your eyes won't fall out if you mess up a little.

There's an episode that's about NAMBLA, where the North American Marlon Brando Look Alikes are mistaken for the pedophiles. They are a real organisation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAMBLA Is your avatar from Les Miserables? It's Christopher Hitchens in his (slightly) younger days.

From the Richard Le Galliene translation of The Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam: He's probably more dangerous than Baudelaire when it comes to romanticising drunkenness. Fantastic.
  8. I do love you sometimes, Barihawk. I haven't the patience to make any real argument in this thread though. All I will say is that people toss that Marx quote around out of context. The full line, which is from the introduction to a critique of Hegel, should read "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." The difference is subtle when you read it in context, but it's really annoying when people throw that little fragment in as their two cents.
  9. Pascal's Wager is a stupid argument. It supposes that you picked the correct god and that god rewards belief. Having 'nothing to lose' is laughable as well, given the obvious differences between believers and non-believers. Anyone who actually bases their decisions about the existence of god on Pascal's Wager is spineless.
  10. Contrary to what Camus might have to say (much as I love him) I think one must imagine Sisyphus unhappy.
  11. I don't get this at all. It's not sportsmanlike to play underneath your ability - It's condescending. If the learning difficulties argument is to be brought up then the fault should be placed with the league for organising the game.
  12. I just finished watching Gantz, and I've never been more annoyed at the end of a series. I had enjoyed it right up until the end, which just made me feel like I had completely wasted my time.
  13. Nowhere by Ride is a great shoegaze album.

    I love Larkin so much.
  15. I hate the way people use the word random these days.
  16. I don't really watch anime, but I've stumbled across a few I've enjoyed over the years. I really like(d) Gundam Wing, for example. Anyway, I was bored last night and ended up watching Elfen Lied, and am about 6 episodes into it. It's pretty messed up, but I'm kind of engrossed in it.

I know what you mean. If knowledge was actually appreciated for and as knowledge you'd have an excellent case, but the way things are with education being boiled down to words and numbers on a piece of paper, obviously school will actually help you out lots in the future. I'm in a similar situation though. I hate my university course, but I've only got a year and a half left so it doesn't make any sense to drop out. There's ways I'd much rather be spending my time, but if I can just stick with it and get my degree then I'll be able to move on to what I actually want to do. Without my (practically) useless degree I wouldn't be able to get into another course. Live and learn, I guess.
  18. I've always wanted to make a dandelion wine, but it's hard to find enough flowers that aren't tainted with pesticides. If I ever do get enough, this is the site I use for different recipes: http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/ It has a great collection of recipes. Ha, I didn't have anything to do today so I started making wine. Stage one is finished, and now I need to wait 24 hours and then add the yeast. I'll tell you, mashing grapes is not as easy as you might think.
  19. Absolutely. It might even be one of my favourite books. It's only a short little thing, so laziness shouldn't be an issue.
  20. I've got Kafka's complete works in my flat. I've read all the novels/novellas, but I haven't got through all his snippets and letters yet. He's fantastic, there's no doubt about that, but if we're talking about existentialist writers I think I prefer Camus.
  21. I'm pretty sure that Tool does not have a song called "Acid". This drug - This band.
  22. The Manics' early stuff is good, the 3 albums they made with Richey James Edwards, before he vanished off the face of the planet. Holy Bible is their best album.
  23. It's not actually Springsteen I dislike I suppose - It's the E Street Band. I'm not sure if I've heard the stuff you mentioned. The Manic's cover does look like it could be by Lucien Freud, doesn't it? I just looked it up and it's by an artist called Jenny Saville.
  24. Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible The Cure - Pornography Jesu - Silver Slowdive - Just for a Day Nice mix, I think. I really hate Bruce Springsteen, but Nebraska is so dark and fantastic. Not his usual fist pounding cheese rock.
  25. Interviews like that should be easy. I never applied myself in school but I ended up being Head Boy because I blagged the interview so well. You just have to tell them what they want to hear. Be confident, and that's about it.
