  1. Books currently in progress that I keep jumping between: Reckoning with Risk - Learning to Live with Uncertainity - Gerd Gigernzer Happiness, Lessons from a New Science - Richard Layard The Archaic Revival - Speculations on Psychadelic Mushrooms, the Amazon, Virtual Reality, UFOs, Evolution, Shamanism, The Rebith of the Godess and the End of History - Terence McKenna Don't You Have Time to Think? - Richard P. Feynman The Character of Physical Law - Richard P. Feynman Genius, Richard Feynman and Modern Physics - James Gleick
  2. I've got the long second toe thing as well. I guess another thing would be that I've only got 9 toenails. I got one pulled off and then acid put on the nail bed so it wouldn't grow back.
  3. Any of the Contra games on the hardest setting were pretty nuts.

I think Break the Cycle is a pretty good CD. Fade, It's Been a While and Outside are great songs. I don't think the vocals are like Tool at all, if they remind me of anyone it's Hootie and the Blowfish.
  5. My concept on Blackmore has gone downhill after I've watched his performance on Come Hell or High Water. As if his arrogant posture weren't enough, the band could get along very very well without him trying hard. His playing is brilliant on that DVD though, and his arrogance was partly what made the live shows so electric. You can't deny it's AMAZING when Blackmore walks out just in time for the Highway Star solo, and just rips it. Child in Time is unbelievable on that DVD as well.
  6. Almost any metal band will quote Metallica as a major influence, and like it or not Kirk Hammett inspired a generation of people to pick up a guitar. People bash the guy because he's not the most skillful, but the guy can write excellent solos. I'd rather sit and listen to a solo from Hammett than I would from Petrucci, Vai, Yngwie or Michael Angelo Batio, despite the fact that those guys are all way more skilled. I hate it that music has become about technical prowess. you still have yet to tell me who he inspire.d form the looks of it you. it sbecome technicalbecause today..there is none. 3 chor dpunk isnt technical. To be fair, I can't quote band/guitarist names off the top of my head, but to say Kirk Hammett wasn't influential is just extremely ignorant.
  7. You're probably thinking of Walk. And yes, that intro riff is amazing.
  8. Shine on You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, Fade to Black by Metallica, Rosetta Stoned (if you listen to Lost Keys before it) by Tool, and I Wanna Be Adored by The Stone Roses.

  10. He did great things for metal guitar in the 80's. Most solos from albums like Ride, Master and Justice are pretty great, and very influential in terms of how metal guitarists play now. He's definately not the greatest guitarist about, but the guy was a big player in his time and I think he gets way more criticism than he deserves. My list of favourite players would be Ritchie Blackmore, Matt Bellamy, Adam Jones, John Petrucci, John Butler, David Gilmour and John Squire.
  11. I have a good feeling about this year as well. Kuyt looked brilliant, him and Bellamy were working pretty well together. I didn't agree with Raffa's subs or team choice really, but I understand he wanted people rested for Chelsea. I think had Gerrard started (his late chance sooo deserved to be a goal) and if Zendon had been benched (he was terrible) we would have won.
  12. Well I've got 3 Fender Strats, so I'll say Fender. However, every guitar I buy from now on will be a custom build. I'm thinking of something like Matt Bellamy's Mansons. Now that is beautiful. The MIDI strip controls a Digitech whammy as well, how fun!
  13. Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, Cozy Powell are among some of the best. All overshadowed by Danny Carey though, that guy is nuts.
  14. I was interested, because I thought they could light cigarettes, but it turns out that's only the most expensive ones. They're quite fun, but I wouldn't buy one just to shine at stuff.
  15. Woopsie, logged in on my old account. Muse - Starlight now.

Well my only qualm with hollowbodies is that they feedback like hell if you're using anything over a light gain. If you're just using light distortion/overdrive you should be cool.

I've got 3 Mexican Strats now, and they are honestly brilliant guitars. The only difference between it and the American, I believe, are different electronics, and a better setup. Get your local guitar tech to set up a Mexi Strat for you and you've got an unbelievable guitar for the price. If you don't like the look of the Strat, you should check out a Telecaster. You could also look at the Jaguar, Jagstang or Duo Sonic, but I'm not big on any of those guitars, and I think a Strat will be best suited for Blues anyway. You'll find that a Strat is far more diverse than a Tele. Don't be at all discouraged from the Mexican range.

Almost everything that exists has redundant features. That's about all it comes down to. That, and maybe we need the extra space for the capacity for change.
  19. Not so much funny words, but my friends and I all do this thing where we swap vowels about in words. For example... 'Splattered' would become 'Splettered' (said Spleh-terd), and other things like this. Also, I use all the typical Scottish words from nowadays (i.e. gantin', houfin', beltin' (coincidentally all of which mean 'bad' or 'horrible'))
  20. The Charlatans (UK), Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Pearl Jam, Alanis Morisette, Hootie and the Blowfish, Blur, Ian Brown, James, Muse, Primal Scream, R.E.M., Radiohead, Pulp, The Verve, The Stone Roses Alot of my favourite bands are British bands from the 90's. The Stone Roses are possibly the greatest band ever.
  21. One word: No. For the benefit of the thread, should we both post as to why we think this way? :P I was thinking the same, but you seem intelligent enough as to have your reasons why you think so, and I have mine. I just felt I had to stick up for it, since it's one of my favourite films.
  22. I love short hair on girls, as long as it doesn't look boyish. Keira Knightly in Domino for example, I like that style, and sometimes girls can pull off short [bleep]ey styles. I guess I just like it because it's a bit different to girls all having long straightish hair.
  23. The Mars Volta sing in Spanish (Latin?) sometimes, so I guess that counts.
  24. we talked about that in school... it was quite funny... *shrug* They look cool, what's the big deal?
