  1. Well, I used to love The X Files, "love" is really a weak word in this context though. xD Complete and utter devotion fits better. ;d. I never stopped liking it, but I sort of stopped dwelling on it so much, ever since it ended, because there was no new stuff to look forward to (I still consider it to have ended some seasons before it actually did because I don't approve of what they've done in the very last seasons with it...what with the dissappearance of Mulder and all that jazz). But still it's the best tv show that I have ever seen and none I've seen since has come quite close to it. Hm, strange, I always thought 3 and 4 were awesome. In terms of storytelling though, nothing beats season 1. Anyway, I can't believe they're finally making X Files 2! Sure took them long enough...I pretty much gave up hope by then. I heard it's more than likely not gonna deal with the mythology; it's gonna be a MOTW - and I can only say YAY to that. Because the last seasons were crap and the mythology episodes got progressively weaker in terms of storytelling. Not to mention the introduction of Dogget and Reyes  . Actually I didn't even watch the last 2 seasons. It's gonna be interesting to see David and Gillian play Mulder and Scully again *after all this time* >_< I hope they're still gonna have that amazing on screen chemistry that they used to have. Man, I really can't wait a year for this! xD
  2. The Devil Wears Prada Loved this movie! Meryl Streep is absolutely amazing playing 'the devil', who else. :P And the story was pretty cute too, although predictable. But I was still taken in, it was one of those movies that are easy going and fun. And of course, the fashion business is fascinating. Funny how underneath all that glamour there is nothing much, really, but it's the glamour that attracts and it's addictive. Actually what mostly appealed to me was how the main character - who at first was acting all superior to all this, got sucked into this world, becoming virtually addicted to it. And Meryl Streep was a joy to watch in every scene. I expected nothing less of her anyway. She's the greatest actress alive imo. I kinda doubt guys would like this movie though, but who knows, you can give it a try.
  3. House MD Best Fox show since X Files.
  4. You know, I've actually been wondering the same myself. And I came to a weird conclusion. I already knew the main subject of these films so I guess I expected they'd make me have a revelation of my own or at least produce an epiphany, but that didn't happen. Which is exactly what happens to the characters in these films! They try really hard to believe in something and expect a supernatural intervention but in the end they're dissappointed. Funny, huh? At least I was dissappointed in style. :P No, actually, come to think of it, I was taught a lesson about human weaknesses.
  5. Through a glass darkly and Winter Light. They're supposed to be part of a trilogy that deals with 'Faith'. The third one is called 'Silence', I didn't see that one. I was sort of dissappointed by those two I have seen, story-wise. I expected more than this kind of juvenile view about religion. Also the characters were, in different degrees, unlikeable and the atmosphere in both incredibly depressing. However, I loved the cinematography and the directing, and some of the images and scenes are gonna be stuck in my mind for quite a while, I think. The one I liked more was 'Winter Light' - even though I read 'Through a glass darkly' is generally considered the best one. WL had more of a storyline thread going through it, TAGL was more like random scenes leading to a more or less predictable outcome. The end scene in TAGL was neat though, one can't help but smirk, or smile sadly, if one is more sensitive. But what a feeble (perhaps on purpose) attempt of throwing a ray of hope into this bleak world. Oh and what I liked about WL is how the character who was the least likely to voice anything spectacular or even interesting, is the only one who understands what the main character is going through. Oh yeah, don't watch them if you have suicidal tendencies. (just kidding.)
  6. According to my lastfm: (http://www.last.fm/user/blushenka/) 1. Pantera ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Cemetery Gates 2. Sonata Arctica ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ The Harvest 3. Korpiklaani ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ KÃÆÃâÃâädet siipinÃÆÃâÃâä 4. Delain ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Day for ghosts 5 Rory Gallagher ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Shadow Play 6. Thin Lizzy ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Roisin Dubh-Black rose a rock legend 7. Freternia ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Dragonsong 8. Rory Gallagher ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Tattoo'd Lady 9. After Forever ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ The Evil That Men Do (single version) 10. Sonata Arctica ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Caleb Hm, that's pretty random, now that I look at it.
  7. I don't know that anyone ever classified it as horror (I know I certainly wouldn't). IMDB lists it as drama/mystery/thriller It still completely fails in those categories as well, so the point stands :-w . That's because it's neither of those categories, either. It's a Shyamalan movie therefore it's more or less, unique. 'The Village' focuses more about how people react to the 'scary' events than the scary events in themselves. Let me just say that whoever didn't like this movie didn't understand it and/or went to see it with different expectations (for instance, that it would be a horror movie). But seeing the rest of his movies makes you expect no less and no more than what it is.
  8. The movie The Sacrifice was so intriguing - in some parts it kind of bored me, but I was still waiting to see what happens, because it was getting more and more strange. And the ending, which I was so anxiously waiting for, left me looking like this :?: And to top it off this is what a user on imdb says about this movie: Oh well.

Quoting from one of my lastfm journals: By ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâepic̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ I mean a song with a compelling atmosphere, regardless of theme or genre. One of the criteria for fitting into this list is that the song tells a story, either through the lyrics or the melodic line can weave a story in itself. Or, ideally, it can be a combination of both. The listener needs to be drawn into the song like into a good book or a good movie. 11. Sorry, but....that was such a 'Seventh-heaven-American-feel-good-movie-style' kind of reply I just burst out laughing. Thank *you* :D Trying to get back on a serious note: I'm not saying that's what the original poster meant, but it makes sense to me for this topic to be metalheads only because only a metalhead knows this band enough to talk about it without immediately assuming it's a satanic influence to poor minded kids - which is what this topic is about. Just a thought eh.
  12. The Others comes to mind. Of course, that's more psychologically scary than blood and gore kind of scary. Also the series Millennium, great show, some episodes scared the living daylights out of me.
  13. I like the sign. And yeah, it's for metal only. It also works if you wanna poke somebody in both eyes at the same time, though. :P
  14. IMO it was AWESOME. :D I saw Disturbia two days ago, and it was lame....quite a dissappointment. Got flashbacks from 'Rear window' but that didn't make it any better. Also....why is it tagged horror on IMDB?
  15. Surprised no one said 'O Fortuna'. That's gotta be the most overrused track, since forever. Used to create a 'dramatic' feel even when there is none in the first place. :P Also very used in parodies, with amusing effects, sometimes.
  16. I heard the album 'Murder Ballads' a while back and liked it. I'll try to get a hold of 'No More Shall We Part'. If your offer of uploading it still stands....*cough* Oh yeah and the song 'Red Right Hand', such a groovy song. It was on the Songs in the key of X album, the soundtrack to The X Files series. That's how I heard of these guys.
  17. Aren't Dummy - er, Dimmu Borgir black metal? What's the difference between 'black metal' and 'death metal' anyway? I'm not so sure I can tell.
  18. Yeah I heard some songs from Alyson Avenue, they're kinda random, meh. @How2PK: Why post in a NW thread then? :P
  19. Really! What is the name of that group? :o This might actually make me like her a bit more, because I like Abba XD Anyway, um...."I cannot cry cause the shoulder cries more"? That is one metaphor I surely do not get :P
  20. Here are the lyrics to TPATP as I understand them (not all of them and not necessarily correct :P) I (.....I can't make out the beginning part to save my life ) The dreamer and the wine Poet without a rhyme. A widow writer, torn apart by chains of hell One last perfect verse, Yet still the same old song Oh Christ, how I hate what I have become Take me home Get away, run away, fly away Lead me astray, to dreamer's hideaway I cannot cry 'cause this whole world cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for this cold world Forgive me, I have but two faces, One for the world, One for God, save me, I cannot cry 'cause this whole world cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for the cold world My home was there at last, these meadows of heaven Adventure filled days more with every smilling face Please no more words Those from the seventh hell No more, please tell me once my heart goes by Take me home Get away, run away, fly away Lead me astray, to dreamer's hideaway I cannot cry 'cause the shoulder cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for this cold world Forgive me, I have but two faces, One for the world, One for God, save me, I cannot cry 'cause this whole world cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for the cold world II Sparkle, a scenery With childish words I fall, With beauty underneath In the end, I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m free Tuck me in, Beneath the blue Beneath the great Beneath the rain One night reigns a dawn in time See then, the light On the shore he sat and hoped Under the same ? Blue skyline shows you Shows you more III I'm afraid, so afraid of being raped again and again and again I know I will die alone, but loved You live long enough to hear the sounds of ? Long enough to find yourself screaming And if you want, you live long enough to see your friends betray you For years stripped under this altar I just wish the tide would catch me first And give me death As I've always hoped for IV (I can't really make out Marco's growls here : P) The morning dawn upon this altar The mass of the dark passion play Performed by his friends without shame Screaming on his innocence they came Get away, run away, fly away Lead me astray, to dreamer's hideaway I cannot cry 'cause this whole world cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for this cold world Forgive me, I have but two faces, One for the world, One for God, save me, I cannot cry 'cause this whole world cries more, I cannot die, I'm a w.hore for the cold world Today, in the year of our Lord, 2005 Tuomas was called from the cares of the world. He stopped crying at the end of each beautiful day The music he wrote, through long pain, about silence He was found, one day, dead with a smile on his face And one thousand people were raised to the test Save me V. They steal my soul, your own Oh when did you become so cold? The blade will keep on descending All you need is to feel my love Search for beauty, find your shore, Try to save them all, bleed no more, You have such oceans within In the end I will always love you. The second part appeals to me most both melodically and lyrically. Well, of course it's not as good as Beauty of the Beast and Ghost Love Score. And I don't like Anette either. However, I think it's much better than Amaranth. Imho.
  21. Has she also left you 'The Poet and the Pendulum'? :P That's the only new NW song I like so far. BBB is nice cause of its underlying meaning. It's obviously written for Tarja and maybe for the fans that started to bash NW after they fired her.
  22. Windir - Svartasmeden og Lundamyrstroll An awesome song I found out about from the ever so awesome Last FM.
  23. Very nice idea, Necromagus :) Opening credits: Thin Lizzy - Roisin Dubh (black rose) Waking up: Iron Maiden - Brave New World Average day: Waltari - Helsinki First date: Kamelot - The Haunting (somewhere in time) Falling in love: Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah Love scene: Enslavement of Beauty - Tangled in Grand Affection Fight scene: Ensiferum - Sword Song Breaking up: Alice Cooper - Burning our Bed Getting back together: Muse - Sing for absolution Secret love: Pink Floyd - Wish you were here Life's okay: Rory Gallagher - Tattoo'd Lady Mental breakdown: Soilwork - Distorsion Sleep Driving: Gary Moore - Out in the Fields Learning a lesson: Avantasia - The Seven Angels Deep thought: Dusty Springfield - Windmills of your mind Flashback: Nightwish - Away Partying: Nocturnal Rites - Still Alive Happy dance: KISS - Rock and roll all night Regreting: Therion - From the Dionysian Days Long night alone: Bathory - Hammerheart Death scene: Draconian - A Slumber did my spirit seal Closing credits: Candlemass - Of stars and smoke It's so difficult to find great songs that also fit and that are also not very different in genre from each other, cause the outcome would be one weird soundtrack :P
  24. Hah! I was thinking after listening to it that it's their weakest album so far. Well, maybe it needs more listens to sink in but I'm pretty sure most songs are nowhere near as complex and melodic than some of their older ones. The only songs that I liked on the spot were Caleb and For the sake of revenge. Also: flower metal?... Not sure I wanna know what you mean by that. : P This puts me in mind of the new Nightwish album that's soon to be released (in May). That's certainly gonna be one of the biggest surprises of 2007, pleasant or unpleasant, that remains to be seen. : P
  25. Really interesting topic. I agree with what Bubsa said about the diversity of acting styles, even though I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable in the field as he is. ;d I agree that Jim Carrey is *supposed to over react and that's what makes him funny. I laugh with tears at the stuff he does, come on....And in serious movies he's great as well, like in Man on the Moon (awesome movie that one, btw) So with best actors I'd have to go with Al Pacino. All the stuff he does is so completely *him*. I mean, once you've seen him in a part, you can't imagine anyone else, ever, playing that. He just takes the role and makes it his own. Even when it's stuff that actors will continue to play until the end of time, like Shakespeare. Gosh, whenever I read Richard III I see him and hear him say the words...He also directed that movie btw. As for worst actors, and thank you to the person who shares my opinion on this one, cause I thought I was alone in this: Emma Watson. She's so bad it' cringeworthy. Dan Radcliffe is not amazing either, but even he has moments when he's good and he's improving, he really is. Oh there are plenty of other bad actors, but I usually just ignore them/change the channel, etc. Whereas her i can't ignore, cause I really like Harry Potter movies. So bleah, yeah, she annoys me a lot.
