  1. Coincidence, I saw Man of La Mancha recently, which is also with Peter O'Toole, and was thinking along the same lines about him...The guy was in all fairness pretty awesome. Of course, I couldn't help but be influenced by my mom who used to be a huge Peter O'Toole fan, and she still is, actually. Anyway, I started watching the movie pretty skeptically seeing as it was a musical and a book adaptation too, but it didn't bore me at all. The songs were fun, the acting amazing and the movie captured the feel of the book pretty well, I'd say (the book = Don Quixote, one of the best books of all time). Oh yeah, and then I went online and checked what other people had to say about this movie, and apparently there were some who didn't like it. I could care less. ;P

I'm currently looking for a summer job (or more) and I came across an interesting job opportunity, which actually involves voluntary work - but that's fine by me so far, seeing as it appears to be an interesting experience and you get a diploma of sorts at the end, which you can add to your CV. It also strikes me as something worthwhile doing, in that you're actually helping people and your actions make a difference. First of all, I need to mention I'm from Europe, so this project specifically may be known only to Europeans, but I'm sure there are similar projects in America that most of you can relate to. So, the job involves a 4 months training-course in Norway or UK (I would choose Norway)- which you can either pay for yourself, or they'd help you get a minor job there so you can raise the money for it, afterwards they send you to a country in Africa or India, where you can begin the actual work (teaching the children and adults there about health, disease prevention, hygiene, environmental issues, or even other languages such as English; or helping them in other ways). The actual voluntary work takes 6 months, after which you meet the team again to evaluate your work. I'm looking for any personal experience that you guys and girls might have with such voluntary work, difficulties you have encountered, good or bad experiences, questions you would/have asked the organizers before you set off, anything relevant or less relevant that you'd like to share and that will help me get an idea about what this works involves. Anyone interested in the particular project I'm thinking of applying to can check out this site: http://www.drh-norway.org/
  3. Hahahah >_< Oh, and I can't help being reminded of this:
  4. Fun stuff, I'm in. I was already thinking of starting to write again this summer and I have a few story ideas in my mind. Edit: I agree with walka92 about the accepted word count. Rigidity kills creativity, writing 500-word *precisely 500* essays for school has taught me that.
  5. The Happening I wrote a big post explaining my thoughts about this movie and about the other movies of M.Night Shamalayan, but I was interrupted at one point and then I deleted it. No one would have had the patience to read it anyway. :P I'll just say I loved it. 10/10 for story, 9/10 for psychological scare factor, 9/10 for the visuals, 8/10 for acting.
  6. So who else hates the new lastfm layout?
  7. Right. Having read the replies, I can safely contribute my original thought : Of course I'll watch it.
  8. Music, of course.
  9. I say no. I have a female dog (Cocker Spaniel mix) - she's oldish now (turns 11 in August this year). A few years ago, we found an abandoned puppy in front of our flat, and even though people were feeding it and it was looked after, we thought about taking it inside and adopting it. We took it inside, only to let it out again about half an hour later. What happened was that they new puppy immediately 'made himself at home', he was 'strutting' all over the house, with all the family awh-ing over how cute he was and laughing at him and such; while our dog just retreated in her favourite corner (where she usually goes when she is ill or when we reprimand her for something bad she had done) and sat there looking at us with the most sad and reproachful look on her face. It really broke my heart, cause I've never seen her like that. It was clear that she was thinking that she is being replaced and was very jealous. We couldn't have that, because we love her very much, so we never again considered taking another dog besides her. However, last year, we got a cat :P Surprisingly, that worked fairly well in the end. They couldn't feel 'replaced' or 'jealous' because they were too busy stalking and fighting each other. Now they settled in a relationship of 'amicable rivalry', where they still 'fight' but playfully.
  10. @Oy the Great: Yup, that's exactly what I meant by 'a big loss'. Federer never lost on grass before and Wimbledon was practically his back yard. This was quite a historical match. And I remembered when Federer beat Nadal on clay (the only time, I believe): in Hamburg, last year. And that match was also memorable cause Federer won very easily, in 3 sets. I sort of hoped he'd go on to win Roland Garros later that year, but nah, it didn't happen. ;p
  11. Regardless of who was your favourite, it was an AMAZING game. Gosh! It's stuff like this that makes life worth living xD Well, Federer was my favourite, he's usually flawless and even today he made some pretty awesome comebacks. But also he made some pretty childish mistakes, and Nadal on the whole was much better than him today. If only for his energy and determination he deserved to win. He also made some incredible saves. I don't know how anyone who watched today's final could say with a straight face Nadal did not deserve to win this one. So congrats to him, and I'm very curious what will happen from now on, will this start a new series of his successes on grass, maybe? Is Federer finally beginning a losing streak? He lost quite a lot this year and this was a *big* loss. Wimbledon was his domain. But gosh the game was so exciting. And that blasted rain who interrupted the match twice...Both of them must have nerves of steel to go on playing at this level for around 4 hours, I think that was as long as the match lasted. Btw, Federer did beat Nadal on clay once or twice even, I think - but it wasn't at the French Open, it was at some more minor championship.
  12. Then how come you listen to System of a Down? :? http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_System_of_a_down_satanic :wall: Lol, thanks for that link, I haven't laughed like this in a while. I'm out of breath and all that. Yeah I take it back, they're not satanic, that link convinced me. They're not even that....
  13. Monty Python and the Meaning of Life It was, well...odd. No other way to put it, really. It was funny, of course (some scenes were really hilarious) but at times I guess it was a bit too random for my taste. The musical bits were also kind of dragged longer than necessary in a few places, imo. But it still it was a satisfyingly absurd comedy, like I expected it to be.

Spoiled is definitely something I'm not, and I've never acted spoiled either. (yes, I realize being spoiled and acting spoiled are different things and even unrelated). Seeing someone act out like a spoiled brat usually earns an eye-roll from me and a look of amused pity.
  15. Why is this topic so important to you, dude? :P I'm noticing something funny reading the replies, something that I noticed irl as well - that guys tend to be quite inclined towards monogamy/long-lasting relationships, even more than girls, sometimes.
  16. Yeah, I fail to see the problem as well, restaurant or no restaurant. If you think the breasts or the act of breastfeeding is taboo/ disgusting, then you're probably a bit immature, no offense intended.
  17. Then how come you listen to System of a Down? :?
  18. So people still believe in leprechauns? :D I think you missed the point with Ireland. it's all about getting drunk, singing merrily and shooting Protestants. ;d There's also the famous sterotype about people from Northern Europe being emotionally challenged and people from Southern Europe being impulsive and obnoxious. And about countries from Eastern Europe being really behind on technology.
  19. Men are so hopeless when it comes to subtleties of the language. :P The phrase 'Can I ask you a question?' doesn't mean the speaker is actually asking your permission to ask a question, that would be silly, it's more like an 'introduction' or 'warning' (although warning sounds a bit too harsh). But the point is kinda like this 'I'm about to ask you a question that is either personal or unexpected in some way, so I'm preparing you for it.' No one goes 'Can I ask you a question?' and follows it up with 'What's the time?' One could follow it up, though, with another yes/no question, such as 'Did you sleep with my sister?' Anyway, the stupidest thing that someone said to me, I was walking down a street, and a bunch of losers in an open car (yes, my definition of loser does not fit other people's) shouted to me 'Hey, does this road go up or down?' It was probably meant to be a 'really smart and witty one' leaving me at a loss for words but I gave a quick reply 'Depends where you're going.' without stopping in my walk. I just thought of another actually, which also involved a dude in a car. I was walking home, just turned on a small alley and a car pulls over on the main street and a guy shouts 'Girl, come over here for a second, I need some directions.' I couldn't be bothered with turning and such, mostly because he sounded quite rude and I pretended not to hear. Then I hear him go 'Are you deaf, b****, I said I need some directions' I half turn without stopping and shout back 'What do you wanna know?' He shouts back 'I can't tell you from here, you stupid ****' I go 'Sorry, can't stop, I'm in a hurry' and moved on, and I heard him a few times more shouting progressively worse appelatives. I wonder what that guy's strategy was 'Yeah, I'm sure that by using a few insults, I'll surely get the information I need' Anyway, that's just some famous two that stuck to mind and I remembered right now, but I'm sure I could write an anthology of the stupid things I hear every day if I put my mind to it. :P
  20. I can't stand electronic dance music.
  21. This coming from the guy who also linked intelligence to race and sex. Yeah, colour me all convinced. There are so many variables into this equation, that an intelligent (!) person wouldn't waste his time on doing this kind of researches.
  22. Well, if potentially disturbing content is okay....this is one my favourite album covers: [hide=][/hide] It's got a creepy atmosphere and the colours are cool, it's almost like a painting. And it's not cluttered or very corny, the latter being quite rare for a metal band album cover. :-#
  23. I don't, and I apologise to say that I am not Geoffrey or Thomas. :-( Oh. Anyway, nice sig, clearly a labour of love.
  24. DRINKS: I'm joining the coffee bandwagon. Coffee is the best. [hide=][/hide] Gin and Tonic: [hide=][/hide] FOOD: Chocolate: (that's my favourite brand and kind) [hide=][/hide] Schnitzel with French Fries: [hide=][/hide] Polenta with cheese: [hide=][/hide]
  25. I do not know where to go to see any of the previous episodes of Metalocalypse...I've seen every episode so... I used to go here: http://www.adultswim.com . In the video section there are episodes of their shows, both old and new. Btw, I was wrong: you can still watch videos from that site *if you are from the United States. Duh! If you're from the US, you can just as well watch them on tv. I'm not sure I get the point behind this little stunt, but whatever.... Anyway, I'd like to ask anyone if they know of any site that could have Metalocalypse (new! episodes, season 2 not 1), to please let me know.
