  1. Yes, this is a very good video. This guy expresses exactly what's been on my mind as well. However, even if the entire population of the world agrees with him, that isn't gonna change things. Does anyone know another site, similar to YT where people can upload videos and which is not so nazi? Or better said - not as well-known as YT for the Big Guys to bother with it?
  2. Bear with me, peeps, because I'm slow and not American. So. Youtube is making some money off the videos being posted, therefore they're responsible for deleting them once someone starts pointing fingers at a video violating some copyright. (according to that DMCA thingy title II, right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act#Title_II:_Online_Copyright_Infringement_Liability_Limitation_Act). Okay, cool. I guess the reason why I marvel at this now is that there seems to have been a surge of removals taking place recently. In like, a month or so, half of my favourites have been removed. When I search for videos, most of the first page results are removed. Some of the videos are, strangely enough 'not available in my country' (?) I'm no stranger to YT, which I've browsed for years. Yet these mass removals / bans seemed to have happened very suddenly. I'm wondering why are people getting so desperate these days to have these videos taken down when they have previously not bothered with them. I mean, you always knew the threat was there, when you were playing with videos and audios that aren't yours, or when you were writing fanfics, but you didn't seriously believe they'd materialize. People wrote funny and elaborate disclaimers thinking 'hey, it would be silly to get sued for *this little piece of work, it's just a bit of fun. And the people who were the owners seemed to be okay with - or at least tolerated having their works made popular in such ways and didn't see it as a problem. But all of a sudden, they're all like 'that's my bread and butter you're messing with, grrrr.' I can't seriously be the only person who finds this a bit ludicrous.
  3. I'm making this topic because I want some opinions / actual facts about how this copyright problem has evolved, particularly when it comes to YouTube material. It seems to have become a bigger issue lately, and I'm guessing it has something to do with this economic crisis. Let me give some examples, which will prove my point: 1.If someone else other than a 'legal representative' of the company which produced / distributed a movie posts a movie trailer, they get deleted. What is their logic there? Movie trailers are free promotion. YouTube is a very popular site and based on a cool scene that people may see in a fan-made trailer, someone might be tricked into going to see an otherwise stupid movie. This would actually work in their favour. 2. If you happen to make a video using some scenes from a movie with a song as the background (both of which aren't yours, but you give credit where it's due), it gets deleted. Again, that might actually benefit both the movie and the song, in obvious ways. 3. If you put material that you own (like, pictures that you took, or footage that you made yourself) with a musical background that you don't own (but again, give disclaimers, claim no money is made [duh]), it gets deleted. Long story short: You can no longer use any material that you don't own, for your own creative entertainment and other people's viewing pleasure, in the absence of any monetary gain. So, how have the rules changed? Is this actually an old issue and I've just been clueless for a long time? Is YouTube no longer the free site that once was? And how cool is forbidding people to enjoy stuff just because someone can't make any money out of it?
  4. RIP, there goes another talented man (while so many other non-alcoholic, perfectly healthy and boring individuals survive ;d).
  5. Even if they're not true, they sure are hilarious. I also like that they're short and to the point and have a 'punchline'. If they were written as longer stories, they'd be boring.
  6. On another forum I went to (Tolkien-themed) I chose the custom rank 'Brightness of a blade'. It went with my nickname there, and there was also the thing with swords like Sting which glow 'blue' in the presence of orcs. On another forum (which was my own), I chose for myself the custom rank 'Mint-Rubber Extraordinaire' (yes, the last one is an actual word : p) So is the first one ( http://mintrubbing.org/) ;p If I had to choose one for this forum, I'd go with the latter.
  7. I had a really awesome dream a few nights ago. This rarely happens to me - to have awesome dreams. But I've been ill these days and for some reason I dreamt some really elaborate and vivid dreams during this period. Usually, I rarely dream events, and words even more rarely. And my dreams aren't usually vivid in colours or anything like that. But this time I dreamt something like a little movie or a commercial ad, for a tv series or movie involving a cool protagonist on a motorcycle, like an oldschool rebel or such (a cross between MacGyver and Highlander :P) Dream involved various scenes with a voiceover and a cool guitar blues riff background music. It was basically about a guy leading a 'life on the edge' and being all unfazed and manly, with a fatalistic edge. Because of his dangerous life, he's had many close encounters, but his closest call happened in Texas, where he met his 'nemesis'. He describes his experience then, from which he barely escaped by a lucky sequence of events, which somehow involved a lizard. His voiceover says with a dry sort of humour 'That's how I became an animal lover'. At the end, it was about him choosing to lead the same dangerous sort of existence, motorcycle and all, with the voiceover 'I know death waits for me in Texas, but one thing is certain, I'm far away from Texas tonight'. That'd make a cool tv series, I'd watch it. And last night, I dreamt that a friend of mine who moved to America a couple of years ago, died in a car accident. Again, it was a very vivid and realistic dream, so when I woke up I felt relieved it was not the case. I still have that image / atmosphere on my mind, though, like it happens with most nightmares.
  8. Right, I'll never understand why some people like trolling on threads where they don't like the topic. Okay, you don't like it, whatever. Are people not allowed to have a discussion about stuff you don't like, without you coming in and posting 'oh, this sucks' and / or making more subtle trolling attempts? Seems very childish and pointless to me. It also makes some of the more mature posters not want to contribute anymore, because contributing to such a thread means you're immediately 'challenged' to a flame war. Is this fun? I for one don't think so.
  9. Haha, you know what, you're right. You've made a pretty convincing case there, sir. (the rest of you guys suck and are therefore unworthy of this thread)
  10. Sweet, I like that article. I think it's more or less spot-on.
  11. Amon Amarth did whaaaat?! You're the first person I heard who doesn't like their latest. And I find it weird as hell, cause most people say it's awesome (myself included) and I even know someone who got into them when they heard this album. Hm!
  12. Yeah, if there's one album I'm looking forward to this year, it's this one....if only for the fact that the wait for it was SO LONG, it's not even funny... All I can say is that it better be good, although if I'm to judge by their first album, I'd say it will be brilliant.
  13. Hahaha, <3 Azvareth. oops, sorry, didn't mean to derail this cool thread
  14. Don't think Bill Hicks is well described by the term 'comedian'. He doesn't make you roll on the floor laughing, most of the stuff he says is just clever, witty stuff, that leaves you thinking. Come to think of it, most of the stuff he says is uncomfortable enough to make him unpopular with the crowds, so he's definitely not your average kind of comedian who hires people to laugh at his more or less lame jokes, in various corners of the room, in the hopes that others can join in. I think classic stand up comedy as such is fairly lame, but I saw some nice routines. Eddie Izzard is an example, has some fun ones. Jerry Seinfeld. Etc. However, most of them try too hard and the amount of effort involved is too high compared to the effect.
  15. I noticed a while back how the exact same thing you described happened with me, and I thought it was interesting. It's like your perception of what is 'heavy stuff' shifts a bit as well as how high you need to crank the volume. Also, to the people who said it has to do with damaged / impaired hearing: I can still find other (non-metal music) high-level noises annoying, so it's not as if I'm desensitized to 'noise' in general.
  16. By all means Britain should keep its gas (and fish too).
  17. I've never seen a post on these forums that I could agree with more.

    Good Covers

Haha, seriously, I think this forum has a few threads that just keep popping up again and again! There must be 10 different threads all dealing with good / bad covers  Well since it's Christmas and all, I think TSO makes an amazing cover of 'Carol of the Bells' (their version is called Christmas Eve - Sarajevo 12-24)

    Twilight.

I guess picking movies based on how attractive the main character is is one way to do it... Do I detect a hint of...disapproval? : P Mm I don't know if I'd say disapproval. I guess I'm just the kind of person that only watches movies I'm interested in. There are some people who watch movies because their favourite actors are in them, others who watch movies because they got great reviews, and then I guess people who watch movies because the main character is attractive ;) I only watch movies if the plot intrigues me. To each his/her own I guess. Yeah, true. I think I do a bit of all the above, depending on the mood. ;p
  20. The thing is (as I see it), in black metal, there's a fine line between being rubbish and being trve and setting and example to the rest of the sell-out bands ;p This always amused me about bm.

  22. I got two: Anti-Flag and Flogging Molly. The latter have Irish folk influences, which work surprisingly well with the punky-ness. Edit: I see Anti-Flag have already been mentioned.

    Twilight.

Paleness / non-paleness aside, I don't think that guy is hot. If he was, that movie would have been on my 'want to see list' just for the mindless eyecandy.
  24. Cabbages? Wait, I'm guessing you meant to say Shih Tzu?
