Just stop getting offended (more inside)
Isn't that sorta contradictory, as evident by this thread?

Just stop getting offended (more inside)
You implyed it. Look at what you said "Because his legs are stubby and he doesn't get any excercise". Dear god, weren't you flaming him for his skills in English? And why would you wanna do a stupid thing like that for? You're just delaying the inevitable. The point is to enjoy life - if some people find that enjoyment by eating, good for them. Just don't expect us to pay for your healthcare, that's all I ask.

Animal Crossing: City Folk.
Hmm... presume you can take 25 items across (if you include presents attached to letters which are detached later), that's only about 52 runs. Do about 10 a day, it would only take a week. Doesn't actually sound that bad. :P I just hope it comes sooner rather than later anyway. I'm running out of things to do on my DS version. :?

Flag Burning.
That's utter crap. I respect it hurts but you'll never understand what living in a minority actually means with groups like the KKK spreading derogatory lies about you, your family and your race. You'll never be denied equal opportunity to a white man because people still hold racist views for being patriotic to the American flag. Groups like the KKK reinforce those views. That's why they need 'special treatment', so to speak. People speak out against Sharia Law, yet Muslims are a minority, and people such as myself who believe action should be taken against groups like the KKK and hate crimes have no problems with people speaking out against Sharia Law. The issue is what is the consequence of a person's actions - an issue society seems ever more reluctant to deal with. If I went to America and set an American flag alight, I would accomplish nothing and I would influence very little people. If I went outside and spread vicious lies about black people, that would have an effect. Burning a flag means nothing, as many have said. Spreading malicious comments does mean something, and has a tangible effect.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Give it 12 hours and see if you still feel the same way. If you do, tell them constructively why you felt so much. Knowing you took his death so seriously might actually flatter them, but you blowing up like that just makes you look oversensitive (perhaps with good reason, but still... as kensh said, it was only a joke).

Olympics 2008
Ahh... so it's not actually an Olympic rule, it's a rule of sport itself. I see.

You have a full catalog?

Olympics 2008
That's the thing that gets me. Why is it only in gymnastics that we have this rule?

Flag Burning.
That's like saying that because crime exists, the police are totally ineffective, which is quite clearly a flawed opinion. You feel it's wrong we should hate the KKK, even though they're hating groups for no other reason than factors which are out of their control in the first place? If this is the size of the reaction the KKK get in their weakened state, imagine the scale of unrest there would be if their views were actually protected by law, and they freely attacked people verbally!

The RS Stereotype
While I appreciate that's a matter of opinion, you'd be hard pushed to find anyone outside of the RuneScape community (which is itself a weak community - another reason people dislike RuneScape) that feels the same way most RSers do about long-term goals. I for one will admit spending hours a day in front of a computer screen chasing a totally virtual goal is nerdy, and is against the social norm. Moreover, I regret doing it for all those months. I'm not gonna pretend to think otherwise because I'm part of a RuneScape fansite. But seriously, this isn't exclusive to RuneScape, so drop the persecution complexes people. The stereotype applies to anyone who sits inside a house whiling their time away on computers.

Olympics 2008
That article is incredibly immature, baised and twisted, to be honest. Plus that's about the only medals table I've seen which puts number of medals above gold medals won. In every other medals table, even without the events where judges are involved, China is still beating the US. It just reeks of sour grapes. Can't you guys just enjoy the sport on show instead of whining because you don't get Gold whenever China beats you?

Teachers Carrying Guns
I think you must be confused on the actual definition on liberal. In the context of this debate, you are the liberal, since you support the individual liberty to carry a gun; I'm the one saying guns should be outlawed, thus I'm the authoritarian. Your generalisations have gone beyond ignorant - they've actually become quite amusing.

Animal Crossing: City Folk.
I think there's only two in Japan too, just that the original is on the N64. I've not heard anything about connection with the GC, but I know you can can link up to the NDS version and migrate characters, catalogs and possessions back and forth between the Wii and DS. Yep, you're gonna have someone transferring all 1,300-odd items just to be the first to complete their AC:CW catalog. :P

And what law of ours (which you apparently are so knowledgeable in) would you be arrested under then? I doubt there is any law in Britain holding me accountable for flag burning. My statement is that I am causing a scene, started a riot, and fight. It's all instigation. Plus, police would detain me to stop me from causing more of a scene and you know they would. I would be arrested. I am using an example. I don't know all or any of Britain's law, but I do know human beings. I do know it would cause people to attack me and police would get involved. I would get fined or charged. Correction: You know Americans. People have burned the Union Jack before, particularly in protest about Ireland, and nothing's been done about it. They'd probably ring the newspapers and they'd film you and ask you to explain why you're burning it. There's been several protest organised by Muslims over the Iraq War where the odd Union Jack or two was burned. No one got overly-sentimental. If someone violently assaulted someone for speaking out against British Nationalism, they'd be slammed for doing the exact opposite of what this country stands for. The police can't just detain you for no reason. The Union Jack really doesn't symbolise a lot in this country, except the Acts of Union between Scotland and Northern Ireland - our heritage is in our political system, it's in the numerous memorials set up to commemorate those who died in the Wars, it's in our history, and it's in the common values we share with each other. It doesn't evoke the same emotional reaction as the Star-spangled Banner does. Hell, some government buildings in Scotland refuse to display the Union Jack and aside from a few grumbles, nothing's done about it. They still display their nation's flag - the white cross on a blue background. Simply put, your blanket generalisation that all humans = same patriotism as Americans is untrue. As for the KKK - people died in the biggest war this world has ever seen so people could live in religious and racial tolerance. We turned a blind eye to the Nazis when they claimed they were 'just peaceful', and look where it ended up. You cannot be ignorant of the threat these sorts of groups have, and reducing the threat they have to just physical assault is naive.

A twist on obesity in Britain
I don't find what they're being taken away from their parents for particularly relevant - the issue is their parents are forced to give their children up against their will. That's the only comparison between this and China's system of selecting athletics. I'd be interested what individual councils have proposed this too. I'd be in favour of a national measuring programme, with guided assistance for those who are overweight and underweight (which can frequently be more dangerous than being overweight since the symptoms go largely unnoticed). Also, instead of telling children what they should eat, and forcing them to eat it at school, teach them how to make healthy food and why it's so important for their health. Sometimes, I get the feeling that proposals to combat obesity in particular are panicked decisions or headline grabbers - it's like the Labour Party can't realise the reason they're so unpopular with their core vote is because they've gone too right wing and authoritarian. :?

Teachers Carrying Guns
Don't. Seriously, just don't bother. They'll never understand our attitude towards guns. It's an inalienable right to them. It's their loss.

Flag Burning.
Why no protection to the KKK? I understand back when they were violent, yes, but why now? That's what's confusing me. People pick and choose what they think is morally acceptable and think everything that they disagree with should be banned. That's not free speech, that's communism. The lack of free speech = the seizure and totally equal redistribution of resources? You really don't know what communism is, do you? I'm not suggesting completely throw away freedom of speech. But there are enough safeguards from the government which mean we have freedom of speech anyway. All I'm saying is I don't need a piece of paper to tell me my beliefs, be they as as a socialist or a redneck, can be spoken - I know I have that right so long as I don't abuse it. It's an unnecessary law, and unnecessary laws create unnecessary problems. Such as disgusting groups like the KKK using the amendment to protect their right to freedom of speech, when quite frankly, they should just be in jail for inciting racial hatred. And what law of ours (which you apparently are so knowledgeable in) would you be arrested under then?

I don't know why you're bothering to post an image. Like we can even tell how old Nastia is on that image. Her disputed age is 14, however. In fact, claims on that age appear more consistent than the claim she's 16. As for the voting... do you even know what they can deduct points for, or what happens in a tie-break? I watched the actual event and the commentators didn't, and one used to be a British gymnast (a quick read of Wikipedia says it was given on the individual scores of the B-panel of judges). I actually think the other Chinese girl was better anyway, but I don't know what they can deduct points for so...

Olympics 2008
15 gold medals for Team GB! We should also get a gold in the women's BMX with that lass from the north-west. Chris Hoy becomes the first British competitor in over a century to pick up three golds in one games. Wiggins could have done it in the Madison... it's kinda tight on Cav since he pulled out of the Tour De France to be at the Olympics and now he's the only British cyclist going home empty-handed. As for a country's population - that's never been a deciding factor in the Olympic games. Logically, a bigger country should be able to select from a greater talent pool, but a country's GDP and spending on sports has always been more significant.

Oh dear lord... the presence of that comment is enough to make me believe god doesn't exist. mmmcannibalism - You're allowed to think whatever you like. However, when you get groups which are actively spreading vicious ideologies a danger is present. The act of speaking is itself an action, and where concerning homophobes and racists, is potentially harmful. No one is forcing you to speak, you've gone out of your way to speak out against certain groups in society who haven't done anything to merit that abuse. There are also several groups who will start out in public speaking in order to attract new members, who will then use those members in aggressive behavior later, as the NF consistently do. It's alright saying you're peaceful - the fact is we've no way of knowing that. Therefore, if a person's opinion is quite clearly the opposite of what a country stands for (in our case, tolerance) such that it would be clamped down on if it ever did become popular, they should just keep it to themselves, or move to a country where their opinion is tolerated. In that sense, yes - the intolerance of intolerance is the only intolerance to be tolerated. I'm not gonna sit here and cling onto a "freedom of expression" sentiment when people are using that freedom to abuse others. I find that totally unacceptable and the state should be taking action against it, far from holding onto an amendment passed around two centuries ago and calling it an inalienable right.

So the 360 has been selling 2x that of the PS3 in Japan
Nice opinion. What a contribution! =D>

So the 360 has been selling 2x that of the PS3 in Japan
There is still some xenophobia at play, just as there is with any society. The fact Nintendo are Japanese will appeal to them just as the Xbox appeals to Americans because it's an American company. It allows them to relate more to one another and gives market researchers an advantage in recognising what gamers in a particular culture want. The real issue here is that SONY messed up massively on the PS3, and they've done almost nothing to address it. It's like they've given up to focus on the PS4. Really, the variety of games on Xbox hasn't increased a great deal.

That's why a Freedom of Expression law or amendment is fundamentally a stupid idea. Far from jack's interpretation, the government didn't make the amendment to protect its citizens from itself. That quite clearly makes no sense at all. It was part of a general movement against old British tradition (which I'm not saying is necessarily wrong - I'm against the actions of the Empire as much as the next person - but it's sown some of the problems we see today) in favour of new pro-American traditions and values. You cannot have a Freedom of Expression law, and then claim that some views are totally abhorrent (such as fascism, racism, homophobia, sexism etc.). It's a blatant ideological contradiction. We do not have a right to freedom of speech enshrined in law in this country, let alone a constitution. Yet we do have de facto freedom of speech. We don't need a piece of paper to tell us we can think what we like, but at the the same time, this provides some leighway for politicians to say "No, that view is totally unacceptable - we're banning it", such as they've done with fundamentalist extremism, with anti-Terrorism legislation and action against far-right groups like the NF.

Is the US at war with Russia?
What people seem to forget is that Iran's military capability is poor. The vast majority of its army (and I'm talking about 95% here) is made up of non-governmental militia, much like the Lebonese army is mostly comprised of by Hezbollah. Iran knows full well it wouldn't last two days in a proper war, given that Russia (just like any of the world's developed powers) wouldn't particularly want Iran using nukes freely either. The chances of Iran actually using a nuke are tiny. You stand more chance of being run over by a car, than you'll ever face of being hit by a nuke, but you don't ban cars do you? Iran has the US panicking, and you're not even testing its metal yet.

Well when you can actually run anywhere near his pace, I might listen to your opinion on how he acts. In the meantime, I will continue to praise his achievement, just like the rest of the world.
