Is the US at war with Russia?
A) As explained by 1_man_army, it has everything to do with Russia. Likewise, I fail to see how building a missile shield in Poland is any business of the USA's, by your logic. B) They've hardly "wrecked" Georgia. Let's be honest now. You're hardly fit to talk about wrecking countries either... remember Iraq? C) I'm calling for them to withdraw as well. I'm hardly doing anything Russia asks me to. The UK has been calling for Russia to withdraw since the conflict began.

Olympics 2008
OK... let's go back to Basic Arguing 101 here. Have the athletes complained about being insulted? No. How can you say it's insulting then?

Flag Burning.
I find it more constructive to understand why they are burning the flag, rather than get wound up in sentimental anger about the action itself. That said... I do worry about YouTube users who go online just to see an American flag burning. They could just tune into al-Jazeera for about the same price as a broadband subscription.

Is the US at war with Russia?
Yes, I absolutely love this logic. We need to build load of missile bases (silos... whatever) right on Russia's border because Iran could maybe launch a nuke somewhere abouts in Europe in the possible future if they develop nuclear technology. And you say Putin's actions were disproportionate...

Olympics 2008
I say, if Bolt's actions were meant to be insulting, I'd say he did pretty bad job at it since none of the athletes who were there complained about him. Michael Phelps' He-Man impression after the team race where they just beat France was hardly tasteful either, but I'm not gonna sit here and call him a disgrace for it. I admire he's the greatest swimmer ever, quite clearly. It was arrogant, yes. But when you're the fastest man in the world by a country mile I think you might just have a right to be a little bit cocky about your achievements, especially one as impressive as his.

Tip.It Times Presents: Why So Serious...
I do love Jagex's subliminal messages. I.E.: It's a game, not a lifestyle, stop taking it like it means life-or-death. The trouble is all the fun things to do in RuneScape have no reward. PC was sort of fun, and gave insane amounts of experience, but everyone loved training combat at the time. Now Slayer's the way to train combat and it's repetitive and boring. This dilemma doesn't really exist in better balanced games than RuneScape. If they want me to have fun, don't make sitting at my computer aimlessly clicking monsters the fastest way to achieve. :?

About a work related injury, and other stuff. need advice
I'm not sure which organisation you should talk to exactly but there are organisations which fight for the rights of people such as yourself who are clearly being victimised at work. Sadly, yours is not a exceptional case - there are some employers who cannot deal with their workers taking sick leave, and some which cannot deal with the DDA (I mean, that's another thing. If you couldn't provide the elderly woman with assistance I hazard a guess it was due to a lack of facilities than your own demeanor). ...I can't remember which organisations but I'll ask my Dad later (he's an advisor). Certainly don't follow ultimania92's advice - if you leave they really don't have any obligation to pay you anything. I really don't think you have a case to sue either, you've been working there for less than 12 months and unless you can prove the accident happened due to their own negligence, you really don't have a case. I'm tempted to say the Citizens Advice Bureau but they're more for people suffering with debts or people who cannot find work or have been made redundant and are struggling to keep up with bills or they're below the poverty line. Nevertheless, they should point you in the right direction even if they can't help. They have drop-in sessions so pop down to one.

Olympics 2008
Australia have pipped ahead of us in the medal tables... apparently the sports ministers of both countries have got a little side bet about which of us finishes higher. :P I was on Wikipedia last night, and it's just staggering. She's not even a professional athlete really. She's just always been good at running. She actually has a masters and until two years ago worked with the British embassy in Japan. At the age of 34, she's only been running seriously for four years. All Radcliffe has ever known is long-distance running. Exactly. It's gone beyond a simple measure of speed now. Because it's so heavily technical, the coach you have can decide the outcome as well. I'm happy to see someone racing because he enjoys it, not simply because he's good at it.

Age differences in relationships
Well, I personally do not see anything wrong with that so long as the 15 year old is fully aware of the implications of a sexual relationship. I find people tend to use the term 'next level' rather loosely. They don't actually understand what that 'next level' actually is. Sadly, the vast, vast majority of 15 year olds are NOT aware of that difference, and tend to enter sexual relationships on emotional impulsiveness rather than anything else. Seriously, how many 15 year olds do you know who are in the position you've described? Most of the ones I know would cave in after a couple of weeks to an older guy, only for the relationship to end once the older guy gets bored and finds the next girl that catches his eye. And really, the 18 year old should be aware of that. Above all else, as an 18 year old who is more mature and aware of that difference, I'd want to have sex with someone who is just as informed and feels the same way about it as I do. That's why having sex with a 15 year old seems totally inconceivable to me.

Surgery -gulps-
I had a tooth extraction under local anaesthetic... and I wish I'd been given general. I was so weak. :? Trust me, you'll take the general anaesthetic, you'll go to sleep, you'll wake up and it'll be like a cure-all that hurts a bit afterwards. It seems to be a fairly simple procedure. You got nothing to worry about, although I can understand why you are so nervous.

Smash Club.
*Confidently looks at 9000+ Race Record* :-w I haven't played SSBB in a while though. I've been a bit busy to be honest. Not tonight - it's too late now. But PM me with a suitable time and I'll be happy to face you whenever. :)

Age differences in relationships
That's an ignorant view to say the least. Rape isn't necessarily physical assault. There are people who 'groom' youngsters using promises such as a modelling career, or substances such as drugs and alcohol. The payment, of course, would typically be sex, only that wouldn't have been the deal from that start, it's sex-instead-of-unaffordable-amount-of-money. The youngster hasn't given consent in that situation. (S)he has been abused by circumstance, and the adult has abused his position of responsibility. Preying on those who are more naive and ill-informed about the dangers of sex is quite clearly wrong. Even from a liberal point of view.

Olympics 2008
And we've got more lined up in the sailing and cycling. Our target was 4th place by 2012 - we could smash that at this rate. Shame about Radcliffe though... except everyone seems to have forgotten Mara's incredible performance because of it. He wasn't humiliating his opponents. He was quite clearly looking towards the crowd and he slapped his left chest in a show of pride for his country. Unless of course, you mean he's deliberately antagonising you like them awful gays in San Fran do.

Age differences in relationships
It depends on the context of the relationship. Not all relationships are emotional connections. Some are purely sexual relationships. While yes, it does seem weird that a 20 year old would be able to emotionally relate to a 40 year old in that way, it's possible the two of them may have a sexual attraction to each other. In that context, the relationship is not advantageous and there's nothing actually wrong with it. Also, it depends on the age you're at. Personally, the thought of me, an 18 year old, going out with a 13 year old is sick and borders on perversion. However, a happily married couple at 90 and 85 seems much less of a deal, but it's still the same age margin. As tripsis says, it depends on the emotional maturity of the persons involved - you do generally need to be on the same level as each other to be able to relate to one another and make that connection. If we're talking people in their teens, for a general blanket rule (which obviously shouldn't be applied to everyone, but generally speaking) I tend to say no more than 2 years difference either way. Then again... I can't say I can hold down a decent conversation with most people at exactly my age anyway. :?

2012 Olympics Ceremony - let's not throw away over $300mil?
Yet you still do it. Actually, my family has never bought from those stores. The Empire is also the sole reason I refuse to be called British. Not all of us take delight in dominating the world to our will, jack. ;) Nevertheless, living my idealist socialist lifestyle in a capitalist structure would be totally naive. Hence why the system needs to be changed. So please don't bother inferring I'm a hypocrite when my life and everything it stands for clearly says otherwise. Okay so? My family has never shopped at wal-mart. Does that make me special too? And you actually refuse to be called british? Do you prefer english or something? England isn't that bad of a place. The food is terrible but that's nothing to be ashamed of. Where did I say I'm special? Do you argue digressed points for fun or something? My point had absolutely nothing to do with me or how I live my life. And frankly, I don't see what business it is of yours anyway.

What If...
Quote removed ~DarkDude Exactly why true Atheism fails. I cannot stand those people either - such ignorants. Even as an agnostic (my Dad and brother are both atheists, and my Mum wasn't religious either) I have the common sense to realise there was a man called Jesus and he did attempt to do good in the world. It's the 'Son of God' bit I have difficulty believing in.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
That's fine. I don't think I've even been on this thread in two months. Ah well... :-w In truth there really isn't a lot you can do. I mean, if you're both adults and you can provide for yourself I suppose the two of you could get a flat or something and move in with each other. Another alternative is to ask your own parents if she can stay round if her mum does move away. What you have to realise though is, chances are, the two of you will be separated at some point. You'll both go to college or something, and you'll be miles apart from each other. It's nice to live the teenage dream relationship now and believe it's gonna last forever, but the vast majority of teenage relationships DON'T last forever. Enjoy now, instead of worrying about the inescapable future. You are right to be worried. Long-distance relationships almost never work because of the lack of a physical connection between the people involved. Without that connection, the emotional attachment also seems to fade away and soon enough to you start filling your free time by talking to other girls and one or the both of you realise it's time to move on. You have her mother's promise though. I doubt her grandmother is the only thing keeping her mum in town, trust me. She must see some potential in living there - maybe a job or a career or just a general way of life. And I doubt she'll want to move just like that. That's really all I have to say. Be honest with yourself. Cutting your own instincts down simply to save a relationship is a loving thing to do, but it's not usually the right thing to do.

Mods Posting In Red
I see no reason why Mods shouldn't edit posts in red if they want to. If it helps get the message across, all the more reason to do it quite frankly. Of course, my personal solution would be to keep to the rules anyway. I know... isn't it radical?

Olympics 2008
To you, maybe. The rest of us aren't bigoted with pro-Western morality. It's a country of 1 billion people. The US is under a third of that size. It stands to reason China will use more authoritarian measures to control a vaster population. Moreover, it's clearly working since China will overtake you as the world's economic superpower in 20 years. I despise this "Communism bad, West good" mentality. I like to think for myself as a human. Independence is a wonderful gift.

Cosmetic Surgery
I remain to be convinced by the claim that all TSs are born with a mental disorder. I also fail to see the difference in a TS being born with a mental disorder, and a homosexual being born with a mental disorder that causes them to be gay. In that, I'm not saying there's a connection between the two. However, if homosexuals aren't gay due to a mental disorder, why is someone a TS because of a disorder? I accept there may be some genetic disorder which alters the balance of sex-determining hormones (since such hormones are proteins and are thus dependent on the genetics of the person involved), but I have personally seen no evidence to suggest TSs have a mental disorder that causes them to act like the opposite sex, and further to this, that they were born with such a condition.

Olympics 2008
I hate to break it to you, but they don't really need you to watch the Olympics. ur right, they don't need me to watch the olympics. however, i've written all the olympic sponsors who's products i can feasibly boycott as well, and i'm doing so. google the website "dream for darfur" Strangely enough, they don't need you to tell them to boycott. If they felt anything towards the situation in Sudan, they'd have boycotted it long ago. I wish you good luck though. I mean, it's not like there were several left-wing organisations that had been campaigning for years before you started your own boycott.

2012 Olympics Ceremony - let's not throw away over $300mil?
I don't believe we should just give £300M to Africa anyway. I realise that might sound harsh, but such a stunt would be totally ignorant to what's causing their poverty in the first place. The African countries where poverty is rife cannot build the infrastructure needed to lift themselves out of poverty because they are simply too poor to have the money to afford investing into that infrastructure. When everyday is a fight for survival you frankly don't have the tangible ability to build wells, or to grow crops for your people to use and eat. You have to look at what's causing that poverty. Is it droughts? Well, yes, but Africa could produce more than enough food given its ideal climate. Is it AIDS/HIV? That has some impact, but to say poverty is being caused by AIDS, rather than AIDS being caused by the high IMR is a blinkered judgement to say the very least. The Africans are poor because your big supermarkets - the likes of Walmart and Tesco - are rigging prices and forcing the African farmers to sell to them at an unbelievably low price. If they don't sell, they have no other way of living. It's that simple - sell at the crap price they're offering, or die. That's why any investment should be put into infrastructure, rather than simply flooding their economies with things they are more than capable of producing themselves, given the investment. If they cannot afford the infrastructure, we should provide that money so they can. But frankly, we in Britain buy from Walmart (ASDA) and Tesco, so it would be deeply hypocritical for us to sit on our high horse and lecture the world on an issue which we are causing ourselves, and a problem we contributed to in the days of the Empire, by pillaging and raping the Africans from their resources so we could build our economic wealth. That's capitalism for you. Someone has to suffer in competition so the winners can live prosperously.

It's A-Level Results time! (UK Exams)
I think you need to have at least a C/B in English Language, or at least something that proves you're capable of understanding English to a satisfactory level. A B in English Language was certainly needed for the English Lit. course at my college anyway. As for university, I'm not actually sure. It depends on the uni. Some will accept a good GCSE grade, some will ask for an A-Level. You'd really have to check the UCAS website.

Who is God to YOU? (Not necessarily a Theist question)
God to me doesn't exist, however, I do recognise that many people, myself included, feel that there's something beyond natural courage which inspires us. The amount of stories you hear about religious people who were on the verge of death, yet they gathered some fighting spirit from their faith in God and made a full recovery, is not something you can ignore. I'd like to think there's a God, or someone I could turn to for that sort of inspiration, but the truth is there's no evidence to suggest such a force exists, and there's equally as many people who have done stupid things in the name of God. In that context, God is a man-made creation, not the other way round.
