  1. This is the same Daily Mail who blame immigrants for 'social breakdown' in the UK, and seem to believe that Gordon Brown somehow had any control over the sub-prime mortgage collapse, right? Not exactly the most open-minded group of people you'll ever meet. I doubt one game's gonna change the Wii's image. It's not like all the families who've bought the console so far for Super Mario Galaxy or Brain Academy are suddenly going to drop the cutesy games and go for this one, and then consequently turn into the House of Satan. It's a storm in a tea-cup. :?
  2. Most AC players would hang you for that statement... except they're far too nice for that. :P The Mii masks looks horrible, IMHO. :?
  3. I was watching that race astoundingly. We beat everyone by over a second, and you, the Dutch, the Italians and the US failed to qualify. If we don't get a gold from here... we should be shot dead.
  4. Thanks. : Well, all I did was make a standard Tip.It signature, copy paste onto GIMP, and make the text on that signature on a new layer. Then I made the sunset vista background and the frame in a new piece and copy pasted the text across to the exact same position. Was fairly easy to do.
  5. A lack of a social life leads to a lack of social health and general discontent. As said, there will be some who play through a obsessive addiction. The consequences of over-playing video games, or watching TV for that matter, are more far reaching than merely your eyesight. If you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to ask your GP or pharmacist. I was only giving my personal experience. That's hardly irrelevant at all. I don't even understand what you were attempting to say in the last two sentences... That's not really no lifing at all. I think I've made my definition, and what I protest against very clear at this point. The case you've described there isn't it. I have no problems with that sort of lifestyle, so long as you took periodic breaks from the computer screen, of course. You implied earlier on in this topic that no-lifing as a teenager is fine 'coz it's just what teenagers are in to. That is what I was replying to. And I suppose these jerks would be classed as 'nerds' then, obviously? If not, they're completely irrelevant to the point I was making. I have to admit, you totally obliterated my strawman, but you didn't answer many of the points I made, which were themselves, quite explicit. At the end of the day, playing video games or watching TV for sustained periods of time, or generally not being active is unhealthy. There's just no argument against that.
  6. I figured that if you use a small font, like Visitor 12, you can fit A LOT of text into the side bit. Here's my attempt, a bit too bright, but I only spent about an hour and a half on this:
  7. When I'm angry. It's not an emotion I particularly deal with well at all unfortunately.
  8. I lol'd about you lol'ing  I'd have said no as soon as he deleted the emails, the porn would have been the final straw. Seriously, he's making no attempt to get a job. He just seems to be someone who wants to live a nomadic lifestyle by using others to get what he wants though 'favours', which he returns by simply being your 'friend'. It's all part of the adventure for him. I cannot tolerate people like that. They're so precarious and unstable. You can't ever depend on them because you never know where they are with you. :wall:
  9. This sort of idea could work on a place like Tip.It whose moderators and admins are constantly monitoring the conversations that take place and where the sense of a united community where people act with responsibility towards each other is strong. RuneScape is anything but this however. Its community is severely disjointed and aside from its P-Mods, Jagex really doesn't have a clue what conversation takes place on its game. It's a nice idea in principle, but I can't see this ever working on RuneScape.
  10. I live in a country where we have national health insurance. Therefore, matters concerning people's health automatically DO become everyone's concern, since we ultimately have to pay for the treatment. Not just that, but our compassion as human beings should lead us to care for the welfare of others. Bare in mind I want to be a doctor in my future career - I know prevention is better than cure and I'd also make a pretty bad doctor if I didn't make it my business. On that note, you wouldn't go to your GP with a drug addiction, and then claim your history with drugs is none of their business. It is totally their business as your doctor. I for one have noticed that I am a lot happier and lot more confident when I'm not playing RS. I also find I have a lot more energy and conviction in life, while when I play RS, I seem to suffer from fatigue constantly. Never has the term 'mind-melting' been more appropriate. I tend to feel much more socially and mentally healthy. : The problem is that some people seem to think that playing RS, or any game for that matter, is a suitable alternative to a social life. This is simply not the case, and is an ignorant view on life. Such people lack communication skills, they typically suffer from low self-esteem, low confidence and a lessened ability to concentrate in the 'real world'. All of these are vital to life. Being a teenager doesn't change this. In fact, if anything, socialising is more important in teenage life (especially for girls), not less. That is why maintaining a balance between RuneScape and an active social life is so vitally important, and frankly, those in this thread that have said the counter have proved my point by their inability to communicate effectively. It's a good point... some girls actually like nerds. In general though, being in an emotional relationship shows three things: A) Emotional maturity; B) Social confidence C) Good communication skills. None of which are gained by playing a game all day. That's why people tend to find a correlation between the two.
  11. Well, you have to admit that a good number of the girls on the gymnastics team for China do not look anywhere near 16. Well in that case, the Yanks shouldn't have any problem beating a bunch a little girls at a gymnastics event. Yes, the training regime is tight in China. It's not something I'd feel comfortable about here. But that's how they run their country.
  12. I lol'd Just as I lol'd at your inability to argue.
  13. How would we ever have guessed certain people would completely miss the point of the Olympics in order to bad-mouth China... -.- Seriously, compared to the poverty of 30 years ago, that's nothing. And so what if they did use computer graphics? Disney use them to make their movies - does this mean they're no longer a film company? The officials hardly delayed telling the truth, so you can't even say they've attempted to pull wool over people's eyes. I'm watching the Olympics because I enjoy watching sport. I really couldn't care less if that girl was miming or not. It was still a good show that London will be hard-pushed to follow.
  14. You're failing to comprehend the deeper issue here. It's not just a case of what you feel you're entitled to. Tip.It is run completely by volunteers. I don't receive any reward for the work I put into my Tip.It Crew work, likewise, mods don't receive anything for theirs. You wouldn't dare go on to the Website Discussion board and demand we on the Crew do more work so you can have more liberalism on the main site. Why should you feel entitled to do the same with moderators? They're not your slaves, and it's their free time being spent purging these threads, not yours. If they feel a thread is more work for them than it's worth, they should have the right to just lock the topic and ban all discussion on it. The logical alternative is that the admins hire professional moderators, and then they put a membership fee on the site to pay for their wages - which is presumably completely out of the question (NOTE: My Tip.It Staff status has no bearing on that opinion. I know as much about the admins' and mods' affairs as you do). People abused their privileges when those threads were open. It wouldn't be any different now - it would just mean more work for the mods, which is unfair. Very true, but as far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't follow the 18 U.S.C., it's suspicious to say the very least. At the end of the day, you can't tell the difference between an 18 year old, or a 16 year old who's matured early. A picture doesn't give any information about whether the woman was forced into pornography against her will either. If people are gonna view porn (not something I necessarily oppose), at least make sure it's a legal site with a reputation for only hiring legit models. 4chan certainly doesn't fit that bill.
  15. Offering monetary rewards for Olympic performance is hardly in the Olympian spirit either, but doesn't seem to have stopped you offering $1M if does get all eight. Dang these Americans are cheaters! :shame: [/ignorance]
  16. There was no 'if' about my post. It was fairly explicit and easy to comprehend. But since you demand I clarify my position: I'm not saying everyone has to be very social. I'm not even saying being very social is key towards health. However, we humans are a sociable species. That's how we get on - by communicating to one another, doing jobs for each other and occupying certain niches. If it's unacceptable for a man to sit at home all day watching TV while doing nothing productive with their life, why is it suddenly acceptable for someone to play RS all day and 'no-life'? Or even more, why is it when we criticise such a lifestyle, it's unacceptable because it's none of our business? Then add the fact some of these no-lifers won't have jobs (not necessarily high-paid jobs, but any job at all), and will therefore be living off their parents' income or even worse they'll be living off the state. For doing what? They're not disabled - they could get off their backside and contribute something to society quite easily. I'm sorry, but I have massive problems with people who just leach off others and don't bother to contribute anything in return. And as for the health issue, no, playing RuneScape all day is NOT socially healthy. Since so many people don't seem to know the definition of health, I'll post it: I've have thought it obvious to anyone with an IQ over 75 that spending hours upon hours on RuneScape, even if you're 'talking' to people on there, is NOT socially healthy, and frankly if you're playing for that long each day, it's questionable whether you have a psychological addiction (thus you're not mentally well either). tl;dr version: It's severely unhealthy, and frankly as an adult you should be willing to work your way through life anyway.
  17. Sure, but this does not subtract from the handful of quality games Nintendo still continue to produce. People will always look at the originals with some sense of nostalgia, that's only natural. IMHO, it's not Nintendo's obsession with a few franchises that's making the quality of games in general lower, or their new drive to appeal to females and younger gamers, but the concept of online play being used as a substitute for offline gameplay. I would rather spend 40 hours doing a FF or a Tales of Symphonia, over spending 40 hours online on SSBB or MK Wii any day. My main point in this thread is that it has been written by someone who clearly does not understand what gaming means to those of us who don't go on XBL and shoot people all day, so I would kindly appreciate it if he stopped judging our games in such an ignorant manner when we don't judge his choice of games.
  18. They seriously gotta put more Flea Markets on though. I hate waiting 2 months until I can sell a Hercules for 36K. I cannot wait for this game!
  19. Since when was Japan communist? At least the rest of America can make a distinction between China and Japan... This argument annoys the hell out of me. What on Earth is a 'gamer' in your eyes? A gamer isn't just someone who sits in front a TV screen shooting people's brains out on an FPS - a gamer is someone who uses computer games as a form of escapism. It's like developing a new style of trainers and then saying, "Oh, well they're just not catering for sportmen" because they were only designed for a tennis player. It's a crass generalisation. I am a gamer, and I love Nintendo games (including the recent games). SSBB is amazing. MK Wii isn't as good as DS, but much better than DD. Twilight Princess wasn' as good as OoT, then again, only a couple of games are. Super Mario Galaxy was a great game. Super Paper Mario wasn't bad either. Advanced Wars is a great game. I don't care if Nintendo do aim their games at children - that's exactly what I like about them. You make it sound like we should all hang ourselves in shame for it. God forbid I play a computer game for fun as opposed to guns and violence.
  20. Or, instead of wasting all that energy on heat, you could have them remove your bones and bury the boneless corpse in a forest for direct nutrition  Oh really... so how you gonna get a corpse to the forest without burning oil (unless you mean you'll carry my mutilated self by hand)? ;)
  21. I'll be burnt in a Crem, my ashes will be spread over some place, and end up in soil where they'll provide plants with carbon-based nutrition to grow. My death will help something else grow. Such is the carbon cycle. That's my positive way of looking at it anyway. I don't believe in spirits, so heaven's out of the question.
  22. A DFS is charged by a Wyvern in the same way it would be charged by a normal dragon breath.
  23. That's not the point I was making, and you know it jack.
  24. those sports matter as much as water polo lol Apart from Taekwondo and Badminton, they've actually all been in the Summer Games longer than Basketball. ;)
  25. Right... so where's he get the money for these parties then?
