Runescape : good for you ? or bad for health ??
What about good old sunshine and fresh air? Or actually talking to people? Or developing a work ethic in the real world? Or actually making a living for yourself? You're not getting any of those sitting on RuneScape all day. Can you honestly define such a lifestyle as socially healthy? It's barely physically healthy (CTS, arthritis, obesity, eye sight problems are all still possibilities given the lifestyle you just described)!

Taxation
The high tax rate was appropriate at the time it was set (when a barrel of oil cost a tenth of what it does now). It does need a review, and perhaps a windfall tax needs to be introduced on energy companies too to stop them exploiting customers due to their monopolies. It depends what welfare you're on about. It's not exactly a desirable process to go through - you make it sound like you go into a building full of fluffy pink cushions and they give you benefits on a saucer with a cup of tea and some biscuits to while away the time. People who cheat the welfare system are a minority and efforts are constantly being made to stop them doing it. However, there are people who need them, due to a lack of jobs in their area or an incapacity to work and therefore, have no way of earning money.

Lowering of the drinking age to 18
oh i dont know, its 18 here too but i see more 15-16 year olds drunk and wandering streets then anyone legal i know. whih is odd as im almost 18, dont drink, yet my sister is 15 and is drunk most weekends. =\ (personal choice btw) It's the same around here. A group of girls I used to know at High School (they'll be 15-16 now) now spend one night each and every weekend getting blind drunk on Stella and cheap vodka. It's that attitude that's dangerous. The concept of getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk. I can fully understand why people want to drink alcohol, despite not drinking myself, but honestly, I go into college on a Monday and people swap stories on how drunk they get on Saturday. It's like a contest to them - and the winner receives more social reputation. It's almost like they honestly believe maturity means swearing every other sentence and getting blind drunk on a weekend. For the matter, the girls I mentioned don't have anything with the vodka - it's literally tasteless, cheap vodka. I think it's related to the fact children are now growing up too fast, and are not given the proper safeguards. Children are forced to grow up so fast, that their idea of maturity has become very skewed. Maturity isn't about what you do, it's how you go about it. It's developing the self-control to not succumb to peer pressure, and taking responsibility for your own actions. The young idiots who do go out to get blind drunk cost the NHS £2.7 billion each year, according to Radio 1 this morning, and cause crime. I don't see why the rest of us who don't drink should pay for their recklessness. Once again, the education system is failing at equipping young people for life outside of school, college and university.

Lowering of the drinking age to 18
Where on Earth did you link alcoholism and suicide? I won't even ask for a psychological report which links the two. Give me a case where someone has purposefully taken their own life because they were drunk. Do you know how much of an idiot you're making yourself look here? You're referring to people who commit suicide due to depression. People who suffer from depression have a higher risk of turning to alcohol and as a result, are at risk of developing an addiction. If you have no comprehension of mental health (which you clearly don't), just don't bother commenting on people who have committed suicide. Life is hard enough for those considering suicide without morons like you telling them you have no remorse for their condition. As far as the case with the pregnant women goes, that's exactly why Euthanasia should be a legal right.

Lowering of the drinking age to 18
What's the point of drinking if you don't like what it does to you? Unless by drunk you meant 'trashed'. Possibly your worst post ever. I don't drink and I know it does wonders for confidence and putting you into a positive mindset socially, even without getting drunk.

Lowering of the drinking age to 18
I think it should be 18 anyway. If you can die for your country, you should be allowed to drink alcohol... But magekillr is right. Don't be under any illusions this would cut binge-drinking. It's 18 here and there's still a problem with alcohol consumption, in both 18+s and under-18s. In fact, it's probably worse here than anywhere else. Unless you make it the cultural norm to drink responsibly it really doesn't matter what age you can legally buy alcohol.

Sarah Palin
He is now a Southern Baptist. That's still Christianity, and I can't really see where his anti-abortion stance comes from except his religious views. And what about Obama and religion? He attended a mudrassa when he was younger. I went to a school where over three quarters of the students were Muslims. Am I a Muslim because of it? No. Obama doesn't let his religion control his politics either. That's the difference between McCain and Obama when it comes to religion, and that's why McCain is a bigot. I totally pray you are kidding. But what about Hope? And Change? But what about "Iran's gonna launch nukes at us in the future and Russia's giving them the missiles! WAR!!! Oh yeah... all the troops are in Afghanistan and Iraq... no problem, I'll conjure troops *and* money to afford them out of thin air!"?

How so? You want to be a doctor, figure it out for yourself. Would people be more healthy if a doctor was earning £125,000 a year and got to keep a good £100,000 of that cash; or would it be better to tax what he's not actually gonna use anyway, and plough the money back into public health and national insurance to improve everyone's health, and make said doctor's job easier anyway because they won't need him as much as they did before? It makes no sense to keep money locked away in the hands of those at the top end of the career heirachy, while others can barely afford a decent standard of living. Progressive taxation is a good idea. A street cleaner cannot afford the same rate of tax as a lawyer. It's as simple as. They need tax credits to keep up with repayments, not just on their tax, but also their mortgage and house keeping. What we have to be aware of is when people are using tax credits in order to contribute nothing to society. That's when we need to take the credits off them, and force them into contributing (mostly by getting a job) before giving them back. If you are referring to the HDI, Wikipedia seems to tell a different story. I'm not sure what year they're using (presumably 07/08 from the footnotes), but the US was 12th. As far as Europe goes; Iceland, Norway, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Finland were ranked higher than the US. Six European countries were not included, too. Given the size of the US economy compared to all the individual European countries, that to me seems pretty poor.

And I suppose McCain would do more to promote equality than Obama would then? I'll still support Obama over a Republican any day of the week. He's not perfect, but at least he's not a pro-Christian, militaristic ex-army bigot. Don't pretend like you and I agree with each other.

Banning for unabuseable bugs.
I find it amusing you accuse me of not backing my claims up, and then fail to provide any proof for your own statements. Reporting history is considered for every person chosen to be a Player Moderator. Bug abuse reports included. It's common knowledge. Until Jagex start providing proof of their nomination process, there's a vacuum of information and I'll continue to fill that vacuum with my *belief* (not knowledge) that reporting people hastens your process of becoming a Player Moderator.

(You could argue Obama doesn't really have any merit either, nor has he held any executive position, but his election would send a clear signal to other countries USA is still free and anyone can become the president) What message? That anyone with money can become President? Obama is not an average Joe. He may only have one house, but that one house is worth just as much as McCain's. He wears Armani suits and Rolex watches. He has made stupid political discussions. Sounds like just about every other President. Except he's black. If that negates the fact that he's a millionaire, then I have lost hope in Martin Luther King's quest for racial equality. I agree. All this proves is that America (in fact, the Western world in general for that matter) doesn't mind black people... so long as they're rich. Maybe begrudgingly, but we'll accept them. Obama spent more on his nomination campaign than Hillary did - it was hardly the case that the black, poorer underdog defeated the white aristocrat. Are you seriously saying that a black youth who's dropped out of high school, now flipping burgers in Louisiana has a chance of becoming President of the USA later on in life? On average, blacks are still poorer than whites and therefore have less opportunity, including owning the keys to the White House. Obama being President won't change a damn thing about that.

Taxation
So long as it goes into public services, especially the NHS, and making sure the poorest in our society are equipped with the very basics of life (food, water, clothes, shelter etc., as well as the opportunity to lift themselves out of abstract poverty), I don't mind paying taxes. In a truly civilised society, charities should not be needed - the state should be able to provide everyone's needs. I don't even mind tax payers' money being given to political parties so they all have equal funding without the whole messy business of who's giving money to who and why. MPs should also have a set wage from tax payers' money, and MPs expenses should just be included into that wage. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan though? Talk about a waste. -.-

Black History Month Alternatives
I still don't agree. If that's the case, why can't it just be called Equality Month or something along those lines? Why does it have to be specifically for blacks even though every race has been discriminated against? That's the bit I don't understand. Why black people specifically? As I said, we should be promoting equality for everyone.

Banning for unabuseable bugs.
Are you saying Jagex are too heavy handed and authoritarian on something which is, after all, supposed to be a game in which we have fun, rather than an eternal competition to see who can reach the most ridiculous achievement in the fastest and most unhealthy way possible? You, sir, deserve a medal. They do though. They're called Player Moderators.

The Offical TIF American Elections thread
Is that why a veteran inside the Republican party admitted on Newsnight last night they'd never even heard of her? Her choice as VP reeks of sheer audacity, and against a candidate who is totally audacious himself, it's a bad move. McCain has lost two of his big cards running into the Republicans' Party Conference later on this week. His main weapon was Obama's lack of experience - his VP has been a senator for just two years. His stance as a pro-family candidate is also in danger, given her husband-in-law's divorce situation. Hillary's supporters are anti-Obama, or rather, they feel there was a certain injustice in the primaries, rather than pro-anything McCain can offer. I don't really feel a women VP, especially one with a demeanor as arrogant as hers, will affect Hillary's supporters all that much after Hillary's speech at the DPC before. That said, I had my head in my hands about the Democrats. Allowing Obama to continue his aloofness was a total mistake. What on Earth was with the Greek pillars, except to [bleep] off those who are alienated by the Republicans because of Bush, but unsure of Obama? Even if Obama did get the Democrat nomination, the whole conference was about the Clintons. The polls are continuing to show, just as they did during the primaries, that Hillary would stand more of a chance against McCain than Obama. This was a run-in for the Democrats two years ago. Now it's looking doubtful. Choosing Obama may prove to be a catastrophic mistake yet. (Except of course, if you count a certain two states, they didn't)

I would vote Obama. What is worrying is that 1/5 of Hillary's supporters would not.

22 August 2008 - RuneScape in Guinness World Records!
What was the point in breaking the news on the main site where 99.9999% of users already have an account? If this was Blizzard, they'd be bragging all over the gaming websites by now. And while we're on Blizzard, the only reason WoW doesn't get this record is because they don't have an F2P option. If they did... Funnily enough, I don't actually think Usain Bolt would care either (unless he's an avid RuneScaper as well as the fastest man in the world -.-).

Flag Burning.
its not okay for a hating group to burn flags because its not okay for them to be spewing hate speech in the first place and if you see nothing wrongs with groups that express racism and hatred you need to reevaluate your beliefs Uh. It's their right to hate. Look it up. First Amendment. Free Speech. They can believe what they want, do what they want as long as it is legal. And it is ok to burn the flag. I believe Saddam had an affair with George Bush's wife before the Iraq War, and that was his real motive. Oh no, you mean that's slander?! Where is my free speech now? Having a blanket rule on free speech is just idiotic, and it doesn't even exist contrary to your belief. Face it.
